So is the article really about ref cheating or is it just KC bashing? If you wanted to make a case for ref bias, would you not also need to tell us the difference in the most penalized team and the norm? For all I know they give refs a bonus for ignoring KC fouls but they haven't proved anything here yet.

What Dan Patrick and the original article was talking about was the disparity in the playoffs. The article concedes that the regular season is more balanced.O Really wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 11:45 am
Agreed, but it's as good as the original article. Here's more detail:
https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/p ... 2025-01-26
In their pursuit of being the first team ever to win three straight NFL Championships, the Kansas City Chiefs have played 11 playoff games since 2021.
In those 11 games, how many times have the Chiefs had more penalties than their opponents?
Zero.
In those 11 games, how many times have the Chiefs opponents had more penalties than the Chiefs?
Ten.
That’s correct, and I triple-checked because it was initially tough to believe when I first heard this stat.
10 games in which opponents had more penalties.
0 games in which the Chiefs had more penalties.
I was curious how the Chiefs fared in these metrics in the regular season.

That was comprehensive.
So if the refs are in the bag, how would you see it occurring? NFL gives them instructions, along with a disclaimer that if they're caught, the NFL will "disavow any knowledge of them" a la "Mission Impossible"? Would additional pay be involved to offset the risk? Would the refs be punished if they threw flags on obvious fouls? Are these all the same group of refs? Would all the refs assigned to a game be in on the scheme, or just the head official? Inquiring minds want to know.

Everyone else is mostly balanced.Looking at EPA, the Chiefs have 18.84 Expected Points Added as a result of penalties in those 11 games.
8 of those 11 games were decided by 1 score or less.

Re: NFL Football
Pretty good coach, though:
Sources: Pete Carroll agrees to 3-year deal to coach Raiders
... Carroll, who turns 74 on Sept. 15, is one of four head coaches to have led teams to both a college football national championship and the Super Bowl. The others are Barry Switzer, Jimmy Johnson and Jim Harbaugh....
With the Seattle Seahawks, Carroll won Super Bowl XLVIII and a pair of NFC titles and made 10 playoff appearances in 14 years while going 137-89-1 in the regular season and 10-9 in the postseason to become the winningest coach in Seahawks history....
After spending the 2000 season out of football and reshaping his coaching philosophy, Carroll was hired by USC, beginning a dominant nine-year run from 2001 to 2009 that included seven consecutive Pac-10 titles, a pair of national championships and a 97-19 record, though NCAA sanctions followed....
The Raiders hold the No. 6 overall draft pick and more than $108 million in salary cap space. They need an upgrade at quarterback but return first-team All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers....

If Kelce retires and takes Taylor with him, I might have to root for Raiders next year - unless they're playing Iggles or Seahawks, of course.

Well, one good thing about the recent success of the team formerly known as "Redskins" is that the sorry sack of shit that ruined the franchise is apparently unhappy about it.

There's always time for ato the Snyders:
How the Commanders engineered their stunning turnaround
Russell Wilson could buy time for Tom Brady, Pete Carroll and Raiders while they figure out Vegas' QB of the future
It'd be cool to see Wilson and Carroll reunited, but I thought there was serious bad blood when Wilson left Seattle. O Really? Also in some daydreams:
All else equal he would probably love to get back to being an OC, maybe even for the Raiders.... The next marker to watch will be Carroll’s choice of offensive coordinator — coming from a group of candidates that will surely have familiar names. One of Wilson’s former offensive coordinators in Seattle, Darrell Bevell, will likely be in the mix....
Bevell, who has long been a trusted friend and assistant for Carroll, is currently the quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins....

Re: NFL Football
Your KC fandom is TayTay dependent?
Yup.
3:00 PM FOX
NFC Championship
GO 6 DC (12-5) > @2 Iggles (14-3) -6
Each 1-1 this season. 1992 was a looong time ago. No rookie QB has ever appeared in the SB.
6:30 PM CBS/Paramount+
AFC Championship
GO 2 Hailees (13-4) > @1 Swifties (15-2) -2.5
Sources: NFL expected to include QB slides in expanded replay assist
Cool, but that won't stop Swiftie-cowed refs from finding a way.

I think:
GoCubsGo and O Really both want the Iggles. I'm alone for DC, but I don't hate Philly.
GoCubsGo wants the Bills Hailees

O Really alone wants TayTay.

Let me know if I'm wrong. Anyone else?
