Surviving a second Trump admin

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Okay, here’s another thing that is ticking me off about Trump. Trump is already blaming DEI for the horrible aviation incident. In my opinion, he should keep his mouth shut and let the actual investigation play out before jumping to conclusions.

It’s funny, because we were just debating the merits of DEI. Obviously, I am not a fan, and never will be. But using this tragedy to score political points is grotesque and sordid.
I agree. Allow the investigation play out. Hopefully it will be an objective review. If there has been any discrimination it should be revealed.

I'm pretty sure you couldn't find any instances of gratuitously unqualified or incompetent aircraft controllers no matter their societal status since back when Reagan fired them all and let in scabs. And even then, the scabs got up to speed pretty quick.

Fair enough. If it turns out that most of the responsible people are White hetero males that "should be revealed", too. Right?
“This morning, as 67 families were waiting in unapproachable grief desperate to find out what happened to their loved ones, the president of the United States took that moment of their tragedy, the tragedy for these people who I’m confident are not concerned with politics right now, to, without any evidence whatsoever, blame DEI and Democrats for the deadly plane crash.”
-- Stephen Colbert.

“No common sense and no common decency.”

Trump “blames everything on DEI, it’s his only game,” Colbert added. “The horrific fire sweeping through Los Angeles, DEI in the fire department. Violence in America, DEI in the police departments. Grocery prices, DEI chickens.”

Federal employees told to remove pronouns from email signatures by end of the day:

https://abcnews.go.com/US/federal-emplo ... =118310483

Why do people have such a hatred of this trend. Who cares. I don't personally partake in supplying pronouns, but I also don't really care if others decide to.

Unisex names exist: Lyndsey, Ashley, Taylor, etc... supplying pronouns skips the annoyance of being misgendered, and the potential embarrassment of misgendering others.

Suggestion for malicious compliance: Purposefully misgender opponents when communicating digitally. Especially those that are particularly bothered by the inclusion of pronouns in email signatures.

Experiment: MAGAs claim that having preferred pronouns is nonsense. Misgender them using incorrect pronouns and I bet they respond with anger and claim disrespect.

Musk Aides lock out gov workers from computer systems:

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/musk-a ... 025-01-31/

Musk is basically doing everything Republicans claimed Soros did. Hypocrites.
Musk, the billionaire Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab CEO and X owner tasked by Trump to slash the size of the 2.2 million-strong civilian government workforce, has moved swiftly to install allies at the agency known as the Office of Personnel Management.
The two officials, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation, said some senior career employees at OPM have had their access revoked to some of the department's data systems.
The systems include a vast database called Enterprise Human Resources Integration, which contains dates of birth, Social Security numbers, appraisals, home addresses, pay grades and length of service of government workers, the officials said.
"We have no visibility into what they are doing with the computer and data systems," one of the officials said. "That is creating great concern. There is no oversight. It creates real cybersecurity and hacking implications."

...

A team including current and former employees of Musk assumed command of OPM on Jan. 20, the day Trump took office. They have moved sofa beds onto the fifth floor of the agency's headquarters, which contains the director's office and can only be accessed with a security badge or a security escort, one of the OPM employees said.
The sofa beds have been installed so the team can work around the clock, the employee said.

...

The moves by Musk's aides at OPM, and upheaval inside the Treasury building caused by other Musk aides that was reported on Friday, underscore the sweeping influence Musk is having across government.
David Lebryk, the top-ranking career U.S. Treasury Department official, is set to leave his post following a clash with allies of Musk after they asked for access to payment systems, the Washington Post reported on Friday.
The new team at OPM includes software engineers and Brian Bjelde, who joined Musk's SpaceX venture in 2003 as an avionics engineer before rising to become the company's vice president of human resources. Bjelde's role at OPM is that of a senior adviser.

How can he legally do that?

It feels completely lawless. Absolutely nothing is being done and it feels like our leaders are just like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When no one stops you it doesn't matter if it's legal or not.

Musk is doing some really shady things with government computers, locking workers out, getting access that someone who is outside the government shouldn't even have.

By DonOLD fiat Elon is no longer "outside the government". :problem:

The Trump criminal enterprise is doing anything it wants, irrespective of the law. Thanks to SCOTUS DonOLD and likely anyone he directs is no longer criminally liable. Civil lawsuits will take years to work through the courts, with immeasurable damage having been done in the meantime :( . At worst, full on fascist oligarchy will be achieved and the courts won't matter. :o :angry-banghead:

We were lucky the first time around. He was too chickenshit and to actually get us into shooting wars. The new, emboldened version is not feeling any constraints. I'm predicting a hard lesson that will not be learned.

Could very well be, but ftr:

U.S. military carries out first air strike in Somalia under Biden
July 21, 2021

Biden sends hundreds of U.S. troops back to Somalia to fight al-Shabab extremists
The move reverses former President Donald Trump's decision to pull out the more than 700 U.S. military personnel who were stationed there on rotations.

May 16, 2022

US strike kills approximately 30 al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia
January 21, 2023

The US has been killing Somalis without constraint for 33 years.
