urns out that putting underqualified kids in charge of the federal government's HR agency wasn't the smartest move. Last night, an exploit in the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) new home-cooked email server seems to have made it possible for anyone with an email address to blast messages to vast numbers of federal employees.
As a result, over 13,000 employees with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration found their inboxes bombarded with spam and messages from vulgar trolls. Some users signed the NOAA up for newsletters from entities like the Church of Scientology, or the Perfect Jean — "Welcome to Jean Perfection," a screenshot reads. One particularly vulgar email offered pointers on Trump's alleged performance at a sexual act. An "Important Weather Alert" warned that the next four years have a 99 percent chance of fecal showers. "Aren't you tired of working for a complete c***?" asked one sender. A missive from a sender identified as "Craig" simply reads "yo."

Ironic that this is tech "guru" POTUS Musk's doing. He is the bane of competent online activity.

A good measure of how "overwhelming" it was would be to imagine the results reversed. Was it close enough that Trump would have (again) claimed that massive fraud in a few states stole the election from him? Yup, that's not so overwhelming then

That's a low bar. Dolt .45 got trounced by 7M votes in 2020, and even fell 3M short in 2016. Kamala, a Black woman with a shortened campaign, lost by just 2M votes . . . after TRE45QN got bought with a quarter billion Musk dollars.

So it'll be interesting to see how Trump's tariffs playout if he rolls them on the EU.
BMW is a huge employer in the Upstate SC area. Something like 60% of the vehicles are exported worldwide, with many going to China, the EU, and Canada (in that order). Not to mention all of the other foreign manufacturing plants in the area, which likely export their goods worldwide as well. And all of the various items part of the supply chain that may be imported from other countries involved in manufacturing the vehicles that may also be affected.
Once retaliatory tariffs hit, and if they keep increasing, I can't see the impact being good on the upstate.
Also, I'm so happy I bought my car when I did. It was manufactured in Canada

The EU is probably watching what happens with Canada and Mexico. We may see a short term disruption from what we have now, but it will settle shortly in my view.

Not so sure about that.
We may have the largest economy, but other nation states do not enjoy getting bullied and may not take it. After all, they're not Republicans.
They may increase relations with each other and leave us flapping in the wind.

Also, there's no clear objective. He states it's because of "fentanyl" amongst other things. When asked if there is anything Canada can do to stave off tariffs, he responded with "nothing". Some master negotiator.
The dude is a clown. Why would you antagonize our greatest ally in such a way? There appears to be absolutely no benefit to the United States.
Republicans have become the most spineless cowards I've ever seen. There's a pattern of them trying to glean the reasons for their king's decisions, spinning them as some master chess move reminiscent of an ancient Oracle interpreting patterns in burnt bones. In reality the guy is just a moron with a huge dash of narcissism.

I agree with you, but here's an even more scary thought: what if the Republicans aren't spineless cowards? What if they really support the crazy?

You'd think Congress would want to assert themselves as coequal branch of government. Feels like they're abdicating their responsibility.

So part of the ummm, "reason" for Trump's tariffs is to stop the flow of fentanyl from Mexico and Canada. Sounds plausible, so how much is coming in? Maybe a lot, but according to right wing Cato stats, almost 90% is brought in by American citizens through regular crossing gates. Turns out Americans get less scrutiny than non-Americans so it's easier to pass through - that's pass through the AMERICAN customs people.
Why don't people call the trump toadies on this every time they say "fentanyl"?

Obviously they're seeing the gravity of the situation and the catastrophic crisis for the country.
Too bad if you're hungry, at risk of HIV, trying to stop Ebola, etc from spreading to the US, a congressperson who voted appropriations for AID, a citizen who supports the law and Constitution, and so on.

China is like: Don't worry, we'll handle this. Thanks Trump
