Jasmine wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 12:37 amOkay, here’s another round of lyrics. These are all songs from the 1970s or 1980s. Can you guess the song and artist?
1. What the people need is a way to make ’em smile
It ain’t so hard to do if you know how
2. I had a dream, but it turned to dust
What I thought was love, well, it must have been lust
3. I think about summer, my head was swimmin’, You wrote my name in the sand
We walked together, hoping forever, Please don’t let go of my hand
4. Ridin’ down the highway, going to a show
Stopping on the byways, playin’ rock and roll5. But finally the tears fill our eyes, And I know that somewhere tonightSpoiler:
She knows how much we really miss her
6. I blew out my flip-flop, stepped on a pop top
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home7. I did my best, but I guess my best wasn’t good enoughSpoiler:
Cuz here we are back where we were before
8. Morning clouds are gatherin’ around, and the streets are full of reflections
But traffic light and the moon’s still bright, people going in different directions
9. Friday night I crashed your party, Saturday I said I’m sorry
Sunday came and trashed me out again10. So let it rock, let it rollSpoiler:
Let the Bible Belt come and save my soul11. Six o’clock already, I was just in the middle of a dreamSpoiler:
I was kissing Valentino by a crystal blue Italian stream12. Well, don’t your feet get cold in the wintertime?Spoiler:
The sky won’t snow and the sun don’t shine13. Smile an everlasting smile, a smile can bring you near to meSpoiler:
Don’t ever let me ever find you gone, that would bring a tear to me
14. I sing this song for the common man, for the people in despair
I bring my song into the world, and I sing it everywhere
15. Oh, can’t you see my standing here?
I’ve got my back against the record machineSpoiler:
I can tell you like the rock stuff!O Really wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 11:07 amJasmine wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 12:37 amOkay, here’s another round of lyrics. These are all songs from the 1970s or 1980s. Can you guess the song and artist?

Two questions:
1. I'm guessing that O Really is offering a personal perspective rather than an objective evolutionary timeline.
I would acknowledge the Beatles as the greatest, if simply for their influence and sheer body of work.O Really wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 12:00 amI acknowledge and respect Elvis as an innovative "founding father" of rock, but I was never really a fan. (Except for "Marie's the Name" which makes perfect music for the shuffle dancers.)
Use of the term "rock and roll" may be specific and may exclude everything else in the family tree like metal, alternative, yacht, bubble gum, yada. I loved Beatles, and to me they do mark the beginning of an era that to a large degree is still not over. But for your question today, I'd have to say Zeppelin. Ask tomorrow you might get a different answer.
You?
Can't argue with that choice - if somebody took Springsteen, I wouldn't argue with that, either.Jasmine wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 12:03 amI would acknowledge the Beatles as the greatest, if simply for their influence and sheer body of work.O Really wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 12:00 amI acknowledge and respect Elvis as an innovative "founding father" of rock, but I was never really a fan. But my favorite rock band is Van Halen (mostly the Sammy Hagar era).
Elton John, too.
Great, if somewhat dazed and confused, minds . . .
Tip of the iceberg.
Wow! You sure got your fill of legendary performances! I’m envious!! I was born in 1975, so I missed the greatness of that decade. I was eight when my aunty and uncle took us to see Journey (with Steve Perry at the time).GoCubsGo wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 1:20 amTip of the iceberg.
Back in the 70's and 80's you could see all those guys in one show with the Superbowl's or World Series of Rock.
And yeah, I went to a couple of those.

Also, Chicagofest would rock your socks off for a $6 general admission.

I was there for this one too....he flew in and out by helicopter, we were properly impressed.
An overflow crowd jammed ChicagoFest, some of them waiting nearly 7 hours to get a look at the man behind the 'Ole Blue Eyes' legend -- Frank Sinatra who wowed them with about an hour of old standbys.
I read somewhere that SNL got in trouble because Mick Jagger licked Keith Richards’ mouth during their performance.GoCubsGo wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 1:24 amThis is outstanding.
Great mix of musical guest performances, cast musical skit performances including how some came to be and interviews.
