Surviving a second Trump admin

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Trump Touts Prison in El Salvador for Tesla Attackers

American citizens sent to El Salvador for vandalizing Teslas? Regardless of the crime committed, American citizens shouldn't be sent to a foreign country to serve prison sentences. Twenty years for vandalism is extreme as well. A president threatening such things is also unhinged. I would think all of these are something both left and right can agree on.
Probably unconstitutional, not that PINO or his MAGAts care about the Constitution anymore. Felony arson and terrorism are a step above misdemeanor vandalism, so sentences may be severe. Generally, only terrorism would be prosecuted by the feds, but I'm sure Bondi would be happy to do so in service to our oligarchy.

Yeah twenty years is not that obscene for arson, especially depending on different factors like if the building was occupied. That makes sense. For petty vandalism like keying a car or something it wouldn't be as steep.

Have any buildings been torched? I thought it was just cyberpanzers. Structure arson would often be even worse, legally.

They probably can't call petty vandalism 'terrorism', either.

All those things aside, threatening to ship people to a prison in El Salvador is insane. I'm assuming he also means American citizens. You'd think for a country whose founding had to do with overthrowing tyranny, citizens left and right would be a little more concerned about a president acting like a tyrant.

That's where the Constitution comes into play . . . I think. :problem:

Will it muddy the issue if there are federal terrorism convictions? -0-?

A lot of these maga types haven't ever cracked open a history book in their lives. The flag, anthem, founding docs, and patriotic imagery are all idols for them. The actual substance and principles behind those things don't seem to matter.

It's a real worry if federal courts and SCOTUS are as ignorant, or pretend to be.

Extortion, the grift is relentless:
Trump drops order against law firm after it pledges $40 million in legal services

President Donald Trump agreed to withdraw an executive order targeting law firm Paul Weiss' contracts and employee security clearances in exchange for a series of commitments from the firm, including dedicating $40 million of free legal services to "mutually agreed projects," Trump announced.

The March 14 executive order commanded agency heads to suspend security clearances for the firm's lawyers and threatened to snatch away government contracts for firm clients.

Paul Weiss is the third law firm targeted by Trump since late February. The pattern has sparked concerns among free speech advocates and legal observers about the independence of law firms under the new administration.
No "concerns" with Paul Weiss, they are a PINO client now.
... "This Paul Weiss capitulation is the most disgraceful action by a major law firm in my lifetime, so appalling that I couldn’t believe it at first," posted lawyer George Conway, a prominent Republican-turned-Independent Trump critic, on X.
Why executive order threatened Paul Weiss business

In targeting Paul Weiss, the March 14 executive order cited its former hire of ex-New York prosecutor Mark Pomerantz, who wrote in a letter published in the New York Times in 2022 that Trump was "guilty of numerous felony violations." ...

“The President is agreeing to this action in light of a meeting with Paul, Weiss Chairman, Brad Karp, during which Mr. Karp acknowledged the wrongdoing of former Paul, Weiss partner, Mark Pomerantz, the grave dangers of Weaponization, and the vital need to restore our System of Justice," a White House statement accompanying Trump's Thursday announcement said.
:bs: Pomerantz was correct x 34!
Paul Weiss, your go-to lawyers if cowards and bootlickers are good enough.
... Other firm clients or potential clients may have also feared an association with the firm would bring them in the government's crosshairs. One client of the firm, former legal executive of Cognizant Technology Solutions Steven Schwartz, decided to terminate the firm as defense legal counsel due to the executive order, the firm said in a Wednesday court filing.
Steven Schwartz = Coward
Pattern of law firm targeting

... In a March 6 executive order, Trump targeted security clearances and contracts for law firm Perkins Coie, which has filed a lawsuit alleging the executive order is unconstitutional. A Washington, D.C. federal judge issued a temporary restraining order March 12 halting several restrictions in the order.
Perkins Coie, your go-to lawyers if cowards and bootlickers are NOT good enough and you care about the Constitution.
... "Paul, Weiss affirms its commitment to merit-based hiring, promotion, and retention, and will not adopt, use, or pursue any DEI policies," according to Trump's announcement....
Paul Weiss, your go-to lawyers if racism and sexism are good enough.

Meanwhile the cult gushes in ecstatic orgasmic awe as directed to do by Fox News. I just realized the other day that Tucker Carlson's son Buckley works in just deranged Vance's press office. Probably more than a dozen Fox nitwits in this dismantling of Amarica special operation. All while the clueless cult gushes in abject stupefied awe.

Oh no!

She hoped Trump would revive her farm. Now she worries his policies could bankrupt it.
Rebecca Carlson planned to use a USDA grant to hire overseas workers for her cherry harvest. A funding freeze has left her in debt and unsure whether she can hire the workers.

After Donald Trump won the presidency again, Rebecca Carlson was counting on this being the year things turned around for her 1,300-acre farm in northern Michigan.

...

“I was expecting to see a drastic turnaround for the better for my farm because the Republicans have always been for the American farmer,” said Carlson, a longtime Republican and Trump supporter.

...

“I’ll admit to you, I bleed Republican. However, this has left a sour taste in my mouth,” Carlson said. “During Trump’s first administration, a lot of farmers — not all, but a lot of farmers — saw the positive side to his tariffs and to his agricultural dealings."

"Now, we’re not seeing that," she said. "Now, we’re seeing the actual opposite.

If you thought the WH shilling for Tesla was bad, the grift is relentless:
‘This is not your grandmother’s Easter Egg Roll’: White House seeks corporate sponsorships for Easter event

The White House, through an outside event production company called Harbinger, is soliciting corporate sponsors for this year’s Easter Egg Roll, which is prompting major concerns from ethics experts and shock from former White House officials from both parties.

The sponsorship offers range from $75,000 to $200,000, with the promise of logo and branding opportunities, according to a nine-page document sent to potential sponsors and obtained by CNN....

But the solicitation for sponsorships marks an unprecedented offering of corporate branding opportunities on White House grounds running counter to long-established regulations prohibiting the use of public office for private gain....

Among the offerings for prospective sponsors: “Naming rights for key areas or elements,” “Sponsor logos featured on event signage,” “Custom-branded baskets, snacks/beverages, or souvenirs,” “Mentions in official event communications and social media posts,” “Acknowledgment in printed or digital event programs,” and “Inclusion in press releases and media interviews.” Sponsors can also gain access to an “invite-only brunch hosted inside the White House by FLOTUS,” tickets to the event, and a private White House tour.
:puke-left:
Upon viewing the pitch document, Richard Painter, who served in the White House Counsel’s Office under President George W. Bush, told CNN that it “wouldn’t have gotten through Counsel’s Office.”

“That would have been vetoed in about 30 seconds in my day,” he said. “We’re not running this like a football stadium where you get all logos all over the place for kicking in money.”

... There have also been smaller-scale partnerships with organizations like NASA, the LEGO Foundation, and Disney. But any branding, the source said, was extremely limited due to severe constraints from the White House counsel’s office....

It is unclear what social media channels would be used for the promised “mentions in official event communications and social media posts,” and whether they would be sent from official White House accounts. It’s also unclear whether the White House Counsel’s Office signed off on the solicitation document.

Painter argued the move runs counter to free enterprise. The Trump administration, he said, “just have a different attitude… that ‘America First’ somehow requires the United States to pick winners and losers in the private sector.”

Donald Sherman, the chief counsel and executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), said he had “never seen anything like this before” associated with a White House.

“I understand that there are corporate sponsors for the Easter Egg Roll,” Sherman told CNN. “What I have not seen before is sort of the outright solicitation and the use of the imprimatur of the White House to give corporate sponsorship.”

Previous egg rolls have been a source of tension between those involved with planning and the Counsel’s Office. Multiple administrations had to tell Coca-Cola that thousands of Dasani water bottles donated for the event could not be served in Coke-branded coolers, for instance, because of the branding restrictions placed by the White House lawyers....
