The odds of a pitcher hitting a bird in flight must be astronomical. Poor bird, though.
Big Unit might - might - be able to hit a bird in flight if he wasn't flying very fast or very far away, but yeah, the odds of unintentionally hitting one going across the pitch is indeed astronomical.

True, even Big Unit could not have known that a bird would cross the strike zone, let alone hit it. However, y'all have the wrong perspective. That pigeon had just spent a miserable winter, but spring training doesn't offer much to look forward to, either - endlessly circling the stadium looking for dropped popcorn and pieces of hot dog buns, competing with rats and dodging feral cats, sex that lasts only 4 seconds. Oh the endless drudgery. But wait, there's an alternative. The bird has seen thousands of pitches and knows where the ball will go and about when it will get there. Easy peasy, one last flight, a painless death courtesy of the Big Unit of all players and . . . glorious IMMORTALITY! The most famous pigeon ever, tens of millions of views, maybe more.

LOL

In 2010 while visiting Italy we had rented a car in Venice to drive to Tuscany. I was driving and watched a pigeon commit suicide right in front of me. It literally walked right into the highway and the car in front of me made an explosion of feathers.

I blame St. Marks.

Obviously the pigeon went to confession in Venice and wasn't forgiven for it's sins.

TORONTO -- Baltimore Orioles outfielder Tyler O'Neill hit a three-run home run off the Toronto Blue Jays' Jose Berrios in the third inning of Thursday's game, extending his major league record by homering for a sixth straight Opening Day.

Playing a season-opening game in his home country of Canada for the first time, O'Neill connected on a two-out, 2-1 sinker, driving in Colton Cowser and Adley Rutschman and putting Baltimore up 4-0.

"When he hit it, I think everyone was just going crazy because that's just such an amazing feat," Rutschman said. "It was just so cool to see."

O'Neill went 3 for 3 with two walks and scored three runs in the 12-2 victory. He said it was meaningful to have a strong performance with several of his family in the crowd....

And Padres, Cubbies, and Phillies off to a good start. Homeless Athletics started in their usual manner.

Pigeon didn't care, he was Jewish. Wasn't going to heaven anyway. He caught his girlfriend fooling around with a tourist pigeon in St. Marko Square.

Ok list, but if you've seen them done on multiple occasions it probably shouldn't be on the list.

A Jew "went to confession in Venice"???

A's home opener last night
Sacramento for at least 3 years
14,000 people capacity, 12,000 were there
The clubhouses "are located beyond the wall in left-center field"
"The designated interview room is a corrugated metal shed down the left-field line."
"Not a good showing on our first night here," A's manager Mark Kotsay said. "I though the energy was great. ... We just played bad."
"Let's go Oakland"
Some fans wearing SELL T-shirts
Others wore T shirts or sweatshirts that read, "I'd rather be at the Oakland Coliseum."
"Sell the team" chant
"The A's honored Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson, who died in December, by having everyone in uniform wear No. 24."
No home city will be on their jerseys, and they will be known only as "Athletics" during their stay in Sacramento ...
Heat "routinely exceeds 100 degrees in the summer"
The "Chicago Cubs won 18-3 behind 10 extra-base hits, 10 walks and a cycle by catcher Carson Kelly."
The Cubs "batted around twice and had four players (Kelly, Michael Busch, Kyle Tucker and Swanson) drive in at least three runs."
 Meet the new A's, same as the old A's.
SELL!

In other news, Padres are 5-0 for the first time in their history. Particularly since the departure of the traitorous football team, San Diego has become a big baseball town, with 5,000 over official "sell out" for opening home.
