Pubs work on plans to outright steal next election.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

US Supreme Court rejects challenge to Alaska campaign finance law

The U.S. Supreme Court declined on Monday to hear a challenge based on constitutional free speech protections to a voter-approved measure in Alaska that required greater public disclosure of certain political donations as the justices passed up a chance to further curtail campaign finance regulation.

The justices turned away an appeal by several Alaskan residents and advocacy groups, represented by a conservative legal group, of a lower court's ruling upholding the law narrowly approved as a ballot initiative in 2020.

The initiative, called Ballot Measure 2, adopted sweeping changes to the state's elections system. The plaintiffs objected to what they called some of the most stringent disclosure requirements in the United States on political donors....

A trial court judge handling the case declined to block the law's enforcement. The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Circuit upheld that ruling in March, saying the disclosure requirements were "reasonably tailored to the state's important interests in keeping the public informed."

Still a mess 3 months after the election despite no actual fraud being found. Election denial meets voter suppression meets male White supremacy, only in four of the state's 100 counties. Dem counties, of course. Shades of Florida 2000. The potentially disenfranchised are many overseas military voters and, as usual, women and POCs. Disgusting.

Cutting Out Those Who Answer To Voters
Conservatives have long talked about cutting government, but Republicans in Congress have shied away from approving deep reductions because of fear of how voters would react.

Damn straight, voters like the federal programs that help Americans.
Now, President Donald Trump’s administration is trying to make major cuts in government through the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, run by billionaire Elon Musk — an initiative led by an unelected businessman who’s unlikely to ever run for office and was appointed by a termed-out president who no longer needs to face voters again.

The dynamic of cutting government while also cutting out those who answer to voters has alarmed even some fiscal conservatives who have long pushed for Congress to reduce spending through the means laid out in the Constitution: a system of checks and balances that includes lawmakers elected across the country working with the president....

Trump Signs Executive Order To Overhaul Federal Elections And Voter Registration
A White House official dubbed it "the farthest reaching executive action" ever taken.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday outlining sweeping changes to the way federal elections are carried out nationwide, a responsibility the Constitution explicitly assigns to the states and Congress....
What part of "illegal" does MAGA not understand?
... The order reflects many of the falsehoods and conspiracy theories Trump has spread about federal election security.
The order reflects Dementia Donny.
... It aims to bar states from counting mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day, regardless of state laws on postmarking, and it directs the Justice Department to track and prosecute what the Trump administration considers election crimes.
Why does PINO despise the military? They can make up the bulk of late arriving ballots.

Fine by me as long as the USPS isn't gutted and they're real crimes being prosecuted.
... Election fraud is very rare. After the 2020 presidential election, dozens of lawsuits failed to surface evidence of widespread illegal ballots or other meddling....
Opps.

Trump Executive Order Says States Must Use Voting Machines That Don’t Actually Exist

... It’s kind of ironic, because the whole mantra of Republicans when it comes to elections is states’ rights. When Democrats tried to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act a few years ago, you heard over and over from Republicans that states should run their own elections. Well, suddenly Trump is saying that states actually don’t have the power to run their elections and should be run based on the way he wants them to be run. That means he wants states to require all this new documentation that they didn’t need before, that they may have to change their deadlines for mail ballots, and that Elon Musk and co. can go searching through their state voter rolls. This is pretty dramatic in terms of what states are doing right now.

This is kind of a minor thing, but the funniest part of the executive order, to me, was that Trump was saying that states need to implement voting machines that don’t actually exist. Basically, he wants to ban voting machines that use QR codes or bar codes, which are used in places like Georgia and Wisconsin. Trump is saying, No, you have to use a different kind of machine, but those machines don’t actually exist. This order, in some cases, is actually asking states to do things that not only are illegal but are actually just impossible....

(lots more)

White supremacy in action:
Pam Bondi Tells Justice Department To Drop Legal Challenge To Georgia Election Law
The 2021 lawsuit accused Georgia Republicans of denying Black voters equal access to the ballot.

... Known as SB 202, the law added a voter ID requirement for mail ballots, shortened the time period for requesting a mailed ballot and resulted in fewer ballot drop boxes available in populous metro Atlanta counties that lean Democratic and have a significant Black population. The law also banned the distribution of food and water by various groups and organizations to voters standing in line to cast a ballot.
1. Make the lines longer.
2. Make the lines Blacker.
3. Make the lines harder to tolerate, even dangerous for some.
4. Whine that this isn't voter suppression.

With a platform like that who needs issues? :angry-cussing:
... In addition to the Justice Department lawsuit, about a half-dozen other suits were filed by civil rights and election integrity groups raising claims based on the U.S. Constitution and the federal Voting Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination in voting.

North Carolina judges side with colleague in Supreme Court election dispute over ballots

A North Carolina appeals court sided Friday with the trailing candidate in a close state Supreme Court election from November, ruling that tens of thousands of ballots were wrongly allowed in the tally. But they offered some of the voters a way to have their ballot count.

The 2-1 opinion by a panel of the intermediate-level Court of Appeals could eventually put Republican candidate Jefferson Griffin ahead of Democratic Associate Justice Allison Riggs. She currently leads in their race by 734 votes from over 5.5 million ballots cast.
:angry-banghead:
The judges on Friday found that the State Board of Elections got it wrong in December when it dismissed Griffin's election protests. The ruling is expected to be appealed to the Supreme Court.
TV news said "US Supreme Court". I would guess it goes to the NC Supreme Court first where RepuQs hold the majority, but Idk. Maybe there's a federal case pending.
While The Associated Press declared more than 4,400 winners in the 2024 general election, the state Supreme Court election is the only race that is still undecided.
We're "special".
Griffin's postelection protests challenged over 65,000 ballots in three different categories. Griffin currently serves on the Court of Appeals and had recused himself from deliberations within the court, where his colleagues ruled favoring him....

"Free elections under ... the North Carolina Constitution include the right to an accurate counting of votes," said the opinion backed by Judges John Tyson and Fred Gore, both registered Republicans....

Slimy Griffin (R) pulled a page out of Shrub's playbook. He only challenged the ballots of established voters in 6 Dem counties. Obviously, if there's any issue of fraud it would be true statewide and a candidate with integrity would challenge all the ballots. After all, over the past few years we have seen that RepuQs are more likely to engage in voter fraud, as is well documented in this thread.

Reagan-Appointed Judge Blocks Key Part of Trump's Election Overhaul Order

A federal judge on Thursday blocked major components of President Donald Trump's sweeping executive order seeking to overhaul U.S. election procedures, ruling that his administration likely overstepped constitutional boundaries.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, appointed by GOP icon former President Ronald Reagan and elevated under former President Bill Clinton, issued a preliminary injunction halting provisions of the March executive order that would have added a proof-of-citizenship requirement to the National Mail Voter Registration Form.

The judge also froze efforts to require public assistance applicants to verify citizenship before accessing federal voter registration materials.
Hero. Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly got appointments from Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Chief Justice William Rehnquist (R).
:---P :---P
Why It Matters

Trump's order, signed on March 25, tasked the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) with implementing changes that, critics argued, would disenfranchise millions of voters.

Voting rights organizations and Democratic groups immediately filed suit, arguing that the directive violated the Constitution's Elections Clause, which grants states—not the federal executive—the authority to regulate elections.
Heroes.
What To Know

The decision represents a fresh setback for Trump, who has argued that the requirement is necessary to restore public confidence in elections.

In a 120-page ruling, the judge stated that the plaintiffs had demonstrated the proof-of-citizenship requirement would inflict irreparable harm on their clients and run counter to the public interest. Meanwhile, the government offered "almost no defense of the President's order on the merits."

"The President is free to express his views on the policies he believes should be considered," Kollar-Kotelly wrote. "But here, he has issued an 'Order' directing an independent commission to 'require' changes in areas tightly regulated by Congress." ...

Judge: Results of North Carolina court race with Democrat in lead must be certified

Disputed ballots in the still unresolved 2024 race for a North Carolina Supreme Court seat must remain in the final count, a federal judge ruled late Monday, a decision that if upheld would result in an electoral victory for Democratic incumbent Allison Riggs.
 x 734
U.S. District Judge Richard Myers agreed with Riggs and others who argued it would be a violation of the U.S. Constitution to carry out recent decisions by state appeals courts that directed the removal of potentially thousands of voter ballots they deemed ineligible. Myers wrote that votes couldn't be removed six months after Election Day without damaging due process or equal protection rights of the affected residents.
Judge Richard E. Myers II was appointed by Donald Trump in December 2019.
:---P
Myers also ordered the State Board of Elections to certify results that after two recounts showed Riggs the winner - by just 734 votes - over Republican challenger Jefferson Griffin. But the judge delayed his order for seven days in case Griffin wants to appeal the ruling to the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Give it up, Griffin, you're even hurting the GQP.
The board "must not proceed with implementation of the North Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court's orders, and instead must certify the results of the election for (the seat) based on the tally at the completion of the canvassing period," wrote Myers, who was nominated to the bench by President Donald Trump.
:---P
More than 5.5 million ballots were cast in what has been the nation's last undecided race from November's general election....

:thumbup: :-||
... Myers wrote that Griffin's formal protests after the election, which were rejected by the State Board of Elections, constituted efforts to make retroactive changes to the voting laws that would arbitrarily disenfranchise only the voters who were targeted by Griffin. Griffin's challenges over voters not providing photo identification only covered at most six Democratic-leaning counties in the state.
 Cheating RepuQ Griffin and his supporters hate democracy.
"You establish the rules before the game. You don't change them after the game is done," Myers wrote in a 68-page order.

"Permitting parties to ‘upend the set rules' of an election after the election has taken place can only produce ‘confusion and turmoil'" that "'threatens to undermine public confidence in the federal courts, state agencies, and the elections themselves,'" he added while citing other cases.
:---P
Democrats and voting rights groups raised alarm about Griffin's efforts. They called it an attack on democracy that would serve as a road map for the GOP to reverse election results in other states.

Monday's order "must bring an end - once and for all - to Republicans' attempts to overturn a free and fair election," Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin said.
... Riggs is one of two Democrats on the seven-member state Supreme Court, and winning an eight-year term would improve the party's efforts to retake a majority on the court later in the decade....
GoRiggs & DemsGo!

Comment:
🇺🇸 ANOTHER WIN FOR DEMOCRACY!!! 🇺🇸
