Re: College basketball
So, an old high buddy had a massive stroke this weekend and is going to be taken off of life support tomorrow.
He's a massive, massive Gators fan and it happened in a bar as he was watching the Elite 8.
Go Gators!

Re: College basketball
I'm sorry about your buddy. Is he in the area where you can see him or his family?
The semis are Sat the 5th. I've got to go with:
1 Auburn > 1 Florida (-2.5)
April 5 is the 1 year anniversary of billy's death. WDE!
Also:
1 Duke (-4.5) > 1 Houston. Go Blue Devils!

Unfortunately Little Rock Arkansas. He's only got a sister left who was arriving today, but he has a ton of friends.

Congrats to the UConn women!
I’m so happy for this team, and especially for Paige and Azzi. Talk about resiliency and perseverance! Both players had to deal with season-ending injuries in their time with the program. Finally, this past January, the team was at full strength. And they pretty much dominated everybody. A great story!

Grrr, 1 for 6. Add insult to injury:
At the least Maluach will not be able to go home and then return to the US. Can he get a green card to go along with his multi multi million dollar contract.Duke Player May Face Deportation After Blue Devils’ Loss In Final Four: Reports
Khaman Maluach is a potential first-round NBA draft pick, but his immediate future appeared uncertain following the Trump administration’s latest deportation move.
Duke University basketball star Khaman Maluach could be deported after Secretary of State Marco Rubio cancelled the visas of all South Sudanese passport holders residing in the U.S., The New York Times reported Sunday....

Good final game, if you're a Gator; another heartbreak if you're Houston. Last night must have given some of the older fans a nightmare flashback to 1983.

Re: College basketball
The headline is unclear who was short.
It gets worse for WVU:
I root for Duke, but that's impressive to win with only one starter and 4 subs.
No resting.West Virginia upsets No. 15 Duke after 6 ejected in first half
With just five players available for the second half after multiple ejections, West Virginia's women's basketball team upset No. 15 Duke 57-49 on Friday.
Mouthy Duke began it all. Karma that they lost.Only five players ... were eligible for the second half after West Virginia's other six players were ejected following a skirmish just before halftime.
It started when Duke's Jordan Wood blocked a shot attempt by West Virginia's Jordan Harrison as time expired in the first half. Wood taunted Harrison by yelling in her direction. Harrison shoved Wood, and a brief fracas broke out as a few other players also pushed each other.
Getting tossed without getting a lick in is a waste.Five Mountaineers players left the bench to come onto the floor ... Although they didn't get involved in the shoving, they were ejected for leaving the bench. Harrison and Wood were also ejected.
It gets worse for WVU:
The Mountaineers trailed 23-20 at halftime. Their leading scorer in the first half was Cooke with 12 points, but she was no longer available. The only starter not ejected was Shaw.

Aztecs, otherwise known as the "Not Ready for Primetime Players" go down to Michigan by 40. Yeah, it's Michigan, but that's ridiculous.

Re: College basketball
Michigan is #7 but San Diego St was ranked (26) last week.

Now, it gets zero votes after also losing to Troy in 2OT on the 18th.
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... asontype/2
SDSU was favored by 14.5 in that game.

Ouch.
Michigan had been favored by 5.5.

So yeah, 40 is ridiculous. Next year?

Ouch indeed. To dump salt into the wound, SDSU coach Ducher was an assistant for nine years at the University of Michigan including in 1989 for the national championship. "Dutcher is credited for having a central role in recruiting the Fab Five to Michigan"Vrede too wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 1:47 pm

So, at (26) beating Troy as expected and coming close to predictions vs Michigan probably would have gotten SDSU ranked this week. Now, I'd be surprised if it ever happens.
What is the effect of NIL and transfer portals on college sports? Are they concentrating more talent at the top schools than ever before?
