Peaceful Protests

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I was out there too 😎.

Really good turnout imo
I kept an eye out for you. I mostly hung out in the shade under the tree. I thought it was a great turnout. Do you think it was "over 1000 people"?
Same I looked out for you as well. I wasn't out there for a real long time.

I was the dude wearing a hat, t shirt, and shorts.

I don't think it was 1000, but then again I'm a bad judge at those things. The turnout was still much more than I anticipated

From what I have seen it seems the protests were peaceful. That is the way it should be. My question is how long before the left figures out the Nazi and anti-democracy pitch is not working?

Trump Posts Dark 5-Word Message From His Motorcade
On a day where global markets were plunging, the president somehow thought a cryptic five-word all caps post on his Truth Social platform would ease minds.

President Donald Trump apparently thought going all-caps was the best response to the negative effects of his big raise in tariffs.

The markets plunged deeply on Friday in reaction to the increased stakes of his trade war that some fear could end with what Sen. Chuck Schumer called the “dumbest” recession ever.
 :angry-cussing:
Considering otherwise loyal Republicans like Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy are criticizing Trump’s plan, the president decided to ease everyone’s minds.

However, the way he did that was a little bizarre: His message of “hope” was this cryptic five-word, all-caps post on his Truth Social media platform:

Image
The markets are weak. Is he predicting their collapse?

Are the people whose 401(k)s have been decimated "WEAK"?
Trump appears to have composed the post while in a motorcade to Mar-a-Lago, where he spent the day golfing while the rest of the world dealt with various tariff-related turmoils.

The only other item on his agenda for today is a candlelight dinner at his seaside resort with supporters of the super PAC MAGA Inc. ― not, as you might expect, fiddling while Rome burns.

Not surprisingly, Trump’s five-word all-caps post made quite an impression on other social media platforms.

Image
After Trump claimed “ONLY THE WEAK WILL FAIL!” a White House official told the Washington Post that at this point in his presidency Donald Trump does not care anymore and will do whatever he wants, no matter the backlash.“He’s at the peak of just not giving a fuck anymore,” the official said. “Bad news stories? Doesn’t give a fuck. He’s going to do what he’s going to do. He’s going to do what he promised to do on the campaign trail.”
Let the weak ones eat cake
we're so fucked
Which is exactly what they said he would do once the Supreme Court gave him immunity from any prosecution. And here we are.
Is this like family annihilators but on a national level?
He promised to destroy the country?
I guess I missed that one. I knew he'd do it, but I had no idea it was a promise.

More at the link. :o :---P

No need. The crashing markets, super-charged price increases and insecurity caused by loss of services and general turmoil will work fine.

My "message" is obvious to all but the oblivious. "Anti-democratic" is just an objective description of an autocratic government, and "Nazi" is just name-calling, but hey, it's worked for repugs for decades.

"Sign-in Required" for your 2nd link. East Idaho News:
GALLERY: Protestors and counter-protestors gather for “Hands Off!” in Idaho Falls

Several hundred people gathered at the Broadway Bridge in Idaho Falls on Saturday, April 5, as part of the national “Hands Off!” rally.

The purpose of the rally was to oppose “the Trump administration’s efforts to reduce access to reproductive healthcare, the right of LGBTQIA+ people to exist and the stripping of earned benefits,” according to a news release from local organizers.

The effort was among some 1,200 protests taking place in all 50 states, according to the Associated Press. In Idaho, similar protests were held on Saturday in Pocatello, Twin Falls, Driggs and Boise, according to state media reports.
 Effin' Idaho, far far nuttier than Montana.
While most of the attendees were protesting the Trump administration, a small number of pro-Trump counter-protestors showed up to hold a demonstration of their own. The had a decked-out Tesla Cybertruck.

Idaho Falls Police spokeswoman Jessica Clements says that overall the rally was peaceful, aside from some verbal arguments. Officers were called to escort an inebriated counter-protestor from the event. The man was not arrested.

Does the X account say where this happened? It doesn't sound like Idaho Falls or Pocatello (see below).
About 1,000 people attend ‘Hands Off!’ rally in Pocatello

... “I want (people) to know that we need to stand up against oligarchy and dictatorship. It’s better to have a democracy where all people have a say and get to vote,” said Elmer Martinez, who organized Pocatello’s protest. “As this President is making a move to become a dictator, we’re going to lose that. We’re going to have power concentrated in the hands of a few and that is not healthy.”

... People both young and old started the protest by gathering at Caldwell Park. There were many different flags carried by protestors, including the American flag, the Progress Pride Flag, the Palestinian flag and others....

Image

... “There’s a lot of people from all walks of life here, and it’s encouraging to see the size of this crowd out to enact democracy,” Roberts said.

One of the protestors, who introduced herself as Kayla, had only been to one march before this one. While she felt nervous to attend, she was encouraged by seeing the size of the crowd that turned up.

“I think it feels a little scary to resist what’s going on, but there’s a bunch of people that are on the team, and so it is encouraging to see everybody here and supporting each other,” Kayla said.

There was one counter-protester at the rally, who was sitting in a truck along Center Street with a Trump campaign flag displayed. The protestors didn’t bother him. Rather, they stood around his truck displaying their own signs and flags.

Emilee Finch, another protestor at the rally, also felt encouraged by the size of the crowd that had rallied.

“People have a lot more in common than they think. I think a lot of politics can seem toxic on the surface when it’s very focused on teams like just the Republicans versus Democrats, and not what’s best for everybody as a society,” Finch said.

Finch feels that many people might disagree with her “left-leaning” views, but she still felt it was important to rally with people to take a stand against the Trump administration.

“If we don’t do anything, we’re gonna sleepwalk into fascism, and then have to deal with that. And I know enough about history to know I don’t want to have to see people go through that harm,” Finch said.

Stallings, who is now 84 years old, told EastIdahoNews.com that he hopes that some Republicans will see the number of people turning out to protest and “develop a spine” and stand up to the administration.

“We’re at a turning point in our country, and I think it’s just in time, because (if it goes on) much longer, Trump would ruin this whole place, just using a wrecking ball,” Stallings said....

Dunno, don't know enough younguns any more to ask around. If I had to guess it'd be the futility of a march. I pretty much felt the same way and had to talk myself into going because the stakes had never been higher while also knowing that. Especially as today's crop of Republicans will keep their head in the sand while kissing DonOld's feet.

The only real power we have doesn't come until 2026. Some Republicans have started to think a self inflicted Great Depression might not be good for their brand though.
