Peaceful Protests

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

‘Burn this bitch down!’

Michael Brown’s stepfather consoled the dead teen’s distraught mother after Monday’s controversial grand jury announcement and then turned to the crowd of demonstrators, saying, “Burn this motherf—er down” and “Burn this bitch down,” according to a New York Times video.

I wonder if they used molotov cocktails, it seems to be the weapon of choice for leftists. Toss and run like cowards. Some have to stop, drop and roll. :wtf:

That's incredible. Not counting the snowbirds, that's about 40% of the population in a generally repug-leaning area.

Maddow thought so, too. She talked about the vote for Trump there.

Ferguson protesters in 2nd night of violence set police car on fire, toss flares at officers

Meanwhile, hundreds of additional National Guard troops rolled into Ferguson on Tuesday, a day after protesters looted businesses and set fire to buildings in a night of rage

Other demonstrations were held across the country for a second day. Hundreds of Seattle high school students walked out of classes, and several hundred people marched down a Cleveland freeway ramp to block rush-hour traffic.

During Monday's protests, 12 commercial buildings in Ferguson burned down, and firefighters responded to blazes at eight others, fire officials said. Other businesses were looted, and 12 vehicles were torched.

Holy crap! MAGA really has lost the heartland, 2 protests in 2 weekends in neoplacebo's Johnson City, TN:

Johnson City citizens demand government to keep ‘Hands Off!’
Protesters gathered Saturday in Johnson City as they demanded change in the federal government.

Antifa in Johnson City!
... “I noticed that there was one in Kingsport, one in Abingdon, one in Greenville and there was none in Johnson City,” said (Tim) McDowell. “So, I asked around and I learned that ‘Hands Off!’ was the sponsoring group and I registered with them. In about a day and a half, they approved our event, and that was Tuesday at 11 p.m. So between Tuesday at midnight, basically, and now, we’ve gotten this many people–it looks like it’s going to be 200.”

... One participant in the protest, Lisa Myers, said she came out to participate after seeing how decisions made by the government were worse than what she had expected and deemed Trump as “one of the worst people imaginable.” She added she hoped the protest would encourage people in the community “to speak up.”...

Another group of protesters gathered in Johnson City on Saturday for the People’s Power Protest.

The event was held on People’s Street.

It included more than 15 organizations with the goal of bringing awareness to issues at the state and federal level.

Those participating held signs that said “Hands Off my Social Security,” and "Hungry Kids Over Greedy Billionaires."

"We're very concerned about the economy. The tariffs that President Trump has gone back and fourth on is wrecking havoc. It is a matter of right and wrong, not political parties. We have people here from all political parties. we're here united and wanting democracy and wanting what's best for the people of this nation," said Indivisible Tri-Cities Organizer, Terryl Yates.

Organizers also hosted a food drive at the event.

 Good for them. This state in general is a hotbed of ignorance. Good to know some are still cognizant. Just today I got another of Marsha Blackburn's emails. It was titled "Continuing to Fight Biden's Lies" and of course it was total bullshit.....also more than half a dozen videos of her on tv (all from Fox News) and some pics of her with "citizens" that for some reason had no Blacks in them at all. Mostly a bunch of old white people who appear to be five days away from dissolving into dust. I can't wait to vote against her later this year if we last that long.

I could have sworn I voted against her in 2020 the last time I voted against her. But apparently it was 2024. It's hard to remember precise time when you're on drugs. But, hell, even if it were in 2020 she's still not up again this year. See what I mean about definite time stuff?

In case Lady O missed it:

About 30 pro-Palestinian protesters arrested after occupying University of Washington building
The protest is a possible sign that this summer could see a repeat of last year's widespread pro-Palestine encampments, occupations, and marches.

:headscratch: Summer is usually a downtime for campus protests. Still some time this Spring, though.

Image
A group of about 30 pro-Palestinian students was arrested Monday night after occupying a building at the University of Washington in Seattle, setting dumpsters on fire and creating a "dangerous" environment, university officials said.
Burning dumpsters is usually harmless, but any fire is poor imagery for a peaceful protest.
The group, called Super UW, said on its Facebook page that it "launched an occupation of the new Boeing-funded engineering building" and was staging a protest over the aviation company's defense contracts and arms sales to Israel.
Good for them, we haven't done enough to hold the merchants of death accountable.
Super UW said it took the action to mark the anniversary of Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023 — in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 kidnapped — calling it a "heroic victory."
Assholes.

The 7 month anniversary?
"About 30 individuals who occupied the building were arrested [on] charges of trespassing, property destruction and disorderly conduct, and conspiracy to commit all three, will be referred to the King County Prosecutor’s Office," university spokesperson Victor Balta said in a statement.
No hate crimes enhancements . . . yet.
... The university's statement also said it "strongly condemns this illegal building occupation" and an unspecified "antisemitic statement" made by a suspended student group on Monday....
Is Super UW suspended or did some other group try to steal its thunder and the admin is conflating them?
Does "unspecified 'antisemitic statement'" mean that it is really anti-Israeli policy and not "antisemitic" at all?
