They do not serve ALL of the American people. It is a personal preference as to whether one chooses their programming.
Soooo, shall we reduce federal funding for interstate highways because they don't serve ALL they people and it is a personal preference as to whether one chooses to drive on them?
How about parks? They don't serve ALL people, but they are available to all people, who choose to visit or not.
I'm guessing you would have opposed the REA back in the day and been very happy for farmers to do without electricity since they'd been doing so for so long anyway.

As I brought up earlier, semi-urban SoupySales will be very happy for farmers and other rural residents to do without public TV and radio.
IMO healthcare should be universal single payer and the Pentagon and prisons should hold bake sales so the American people can express their "personal preference as to whether one chooses their programming."
CPB gets about $535 mill a year, or a little over $1.50 per person in the US. On the other hand, cost of each of Trump's golfing excursions to Mar-a-Lago exceeds $1 mill. Value matters.

I'm pretty sure rural folks could get along just fine without the networks. Again, if they are so good why not let them compete in the marketplace?

Well, it's a different place in the marketplace than commercial networks, but in fact they do compete with the commercial ones. CPB funding is about 15% of PBS annual budget, and the rest has to be scrounged for from corporations and individual viewers "like you." If it wasn't worth it, they couldn't keep getting the contributions. So you have to start with a basic fact: PBS is not a commercial network.
I suspect the objection some right-wingers have to PBS isn't that it gets some government funding, but that they don't like some of its content. 90-something percent of PBS is non-political, but because "News Hour" has been seen by Faux viewers as "left wing", they want to cut its funding.
PBS has become biased, pushing leftist ideology.
They've probably already notified the Superstar Cultmaster to parade his gay goat avatar for the children's book reading.
O Really, Whack and cubby just giggled, gushing in awe at the rainbow colors. Neo kept requesting for Sesame Street Muppets to perform their gay band Village People YMCA parody song, a PBS exclusive. In a effort to increase ratings PBS will soon have children influenced by leftists identity crisis performing as furries.
I agree. However, every president has pushed the envelope on EO's. That is exactly what Trump is doing. I believe he knows all will not stick.
Seriously? Biden issued 162 in 4 years. Trump is up to 145 in 3 months and rising. Do you think an incoming tide and a tsunami are the same just because they both involve the ocean?
Besides, "pushing the envelope" would be to ask some knowledgeable lawyers or experts if it's legal and maybe some would say yeah I think so and maybe some would say ummm, maybe not. Pushing the envelope is not issuing an order directed at something not under your authority for something illegal on its face.

LOL
There's pushing the envelope and there's crazy.
Numbnuts is trying to change official holidays by executive decree and he thinks he has the power to do so.
Eamus Catuli~AC 000000000101010202020303010304 020405....Ahhhh, forget it, it's gonna be a while.
I understand Supes coming in here and being the self-assigned defender of all things Trump. And he's willing to do that even if he has to come up with defences that look like a game of drunk twister played by klutzes.
But I have to wonder, if he gets with some of his fellow Republicans, somewhere hidden with no "libs" around, do they ever just shake their heads and say, "Hoo boy, Trump's really screwed the pooch on this one."
De-funding public media has long been a very selective libertarianism GQP goal and that's what SoupySales is defending. MAGA's "special" contribution is doing it by dictatorial fiat and that's what SoupySales defends by implication. I miss the days when cons feared and deplored super-centralized federal power.

What's also weird (and let's face it, what's not?) is that they control both houses. Why not just put it all in the Big Beautiful Bill?

When the real estate agent sold you a home inside your gated community, did you accept the sales pitch?
If their ratings are good the advertising money will come. If their ratings are not good enough to be able sell advertising why should the American taxpayer fund an unsuccessful endeavor?
Yeah, that's what I said...none of them "stand on their own" and are dependent on ratings and advertising, which are in a symbiotic relationshp. But nevfer mind that.Who told you it is "unsuccessfull?" Is that just something you heard and just automatically believe? That kind of logic is the same bullshit that says if you don't have kids you should not have to contribute to public education. I get two PBS channels and like to watch Antiques Roadshow, where regular folks bring stuff in to see what it might be worth. I also like the history and nature stuff I see there. Why do you hate this so much? Just because you've been instructed to hate it? The government subsidy is minimal.....less than trump's yearly golf expense. Are you just an anticipatory whiner, waiting for the next thing to whine about comes along or is announced? I don't understand you.
Simple. Why should these networks receive federal funding and others do not?
Simple. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Public Broadcasting Service exist to serve the American public. The other networks exist to make money primarily. Some exist solely to stoke hate, fear, and division (Newsmax, OAN, RSBN, Fox).
They do not serve ALL of the American people. It is a personal preference as to whether one chooses their programming.
Well, what a revelation.....I didn't say they serve ALL the American people. I said they exist TO SERVE the American people. What people watch or whether they watch PBS is irrelevant. Anyone can choose to watch it or not. But your cult's leader wants to take that choice away; a choice that's been available for decades. But all it takes to turn mindless cultists against something is a few lies from extreme right wing media and an ill informed babble from the cult leader.
