SINO Johnson the johnson

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

That sucks that REAL ID would no longer be sufficient, especially since I had to show my birth certificate to get it.
... Will the SAVE Act become law?

Not necessarily. It still has to pass the U.S. Senate, which would require all 53 Republican senators to vote for it — along with at least 7 Democrats.

If I read it correctly, it's for approximately 80 million Americans that change they're registration (address, name change etc.) every cycle.

You might be right, but it's not 100% clear to me. The NC Supreme Court controversy is about tens of thousands of established voters that did not meet some new standard that was imposed.

Insert my Fox News theory here. They know that lies, hate, and fear are powerful things that can be used on the poorly educated. And trump loves the poorly educated. sad

Round 1.

The deficit wingnuts are giving cover to the MAGAts. For the moment they get to put off the decision to completely screw their constituents.

Maybe their electorate is really this dumb.

They seem pretty confident they are.

 Liars and cowards. Most of the RW fringe and deficit hawk RepuQs caved in to PINO, as they have this entire session.
House Passes Trump's Tax And Spending Cuts
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act still faces an uncertain fate in the Senate, where several Republicans have criticized the legislation.

... Following an all-night session, the House passed the bill Thursday morning by a vote of 215 to 214, with all Democrats and two Republicans voting no and one Republican voting “present.”
https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2025145
The RepuQ Nays are Davidson of Ohio and Massie of Kentucky.
The RepuQ Present is Harris of Maryland.
My Edwards (R-NC11) is a reliable MAGA sycophant, a MadCaw without the madness as I predicted.

Back to the article:
The legislation, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, combines $1 trillion in cuts to federal health and food programs with nearly $4 trillion in tax cuts mostly benefiting higher earners.
Screw the poor, serve the rich.
The House passage of the legislation is a major win for Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who had to placate conservatives wanting steeper spending cuts as well as moderates seeking a bigger tax deduction for wealthy homeowners.
"moderates"?
... But the bill’s fate remain uncertain, since a number of Senate Republicans have signaled they will not accept the House approach to either the tax cuts or the spending cuts, which would result in an estimated 8 million fewer Americans having health insurance, mostly because of cuts to Medicaid.
SoupySales went several rounds with us implying that we were unsupported Henny Pennys for saying that cuts to Medicaid were the only way to pay for the tax cuts for the rich. Has he admitted that we were right, he was wrong and apologized? Just kidding, he's a MAGAt.
... Republican proponents of the legislation have claimed, contrary to budget experts, that the bill’s tax cuts will so improve economic growth that a resulting surge in tax receipts will make up for the difference in projected tax revenue and spending.
 'Trickle down' never works.
... “Children will get hurt. Women will get hurt. Older Americans who rely on Medicaid for nursing home care and for home care will get hurt,” Jeffries said. “People with disabilities who rely on Medicaid to survive will get hurt. Hospitals in your districts will close. Nursing homes will shut down. And people will die.”
The GQP hates granny. :ateeth:
The Most Brutal Zingers About Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ During Fiery House Debate
Even one Republican utterly shredded his party’s proposed legislation.

... Reps. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.), Jahana Hayes (D-Conn.) and Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) all railed against the proposed legislation that seeks to slash trillions of dollars in taxes for the most wealthy and cut federal health and nutrition programs.

“Hunger is a political condition,” fumed McGovern. “We have the money. We have the infrastructure. We know what to do to end it. We have everything to end it but the political will. And you bring to the floor a bill that robs from poor people, takes money away from the most incredible food assistance program in the world. And you take that and you use it not to end hunger but to pay for tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires. That is shameful. That is shameful.”

The bill is “rotten,” “ugly” and a “monstrosity,” and “Republicans just don’t care,” he said at another point....

After Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Pa.) claimed in a rant backing the bill that it’s actually about “caring about America,” McGovern simply shot back, “Boy, that was weird.”

Frost, meanwhile, pointed out some “very clear and truthful” things about the budget: “Laws for gun manufacturers to make more money off of the death of children and our people? Yes. Food for children to eat? No. Health care for seniors, disabled Americans and millions more? No. Resources to help working families fight to ends meet? No.”

“This is why they’ve been told to not host any town halls back in their districts. That’s why this debate is happening in the middle of the night,” he added. “It’s nothing short of theft.”

Frost also railed: “Republicans would have us believe that the person most likely to steal from you is a Black person in a hoodie or an immigrant with tattoos.”

“This is to distract from the fact that at least here, tonight, the people stealing from Americans are not folks with tattoos and hoodies,” he continued. “It’s people wearing suits and ties and congressional pins sitting in this Capitol right now, not in some random alley wrapped in darkness but in the United States Congress wrapped in the flag. It is disgusting and we will never forget this.”

Ocasio-Cortez warned “there will be consequences” for the GOP from the American people.

Hayes argued: “Every provision in this program is cruel and they know it.”

“That’s why none of them spoke on it in committee,” she said. “That’s why they were silent in budget. That’s why they have nothing to say. That’s why they have no response. That’s why they don’t hold town halls. That’s why they don’t answer questions. All they do is tweet, repeat and hide in the back until they vote yes.” ...

GOP Lawmaker Roasted For Whining About ‘Extreme Comments’ Describing Trump Bill
North Carolina Republican Virginia Foxx complained it’s “not the way we ought to be talking about this bill,” but critics vehemently disagreed.

“When every descriptor sounds like a horror movie, maybe the script needs rewriting. Don’t blame the audience for noticing.”
Rep. Veronica Escobar
(Tejana. Fronteriza. Proudly representing El Paso ...)
In other words, “please don’t call this bill what it is or say what it does.”

If you didn’t watch any of our testimony, Rep. Foxx sums it up pretty well.
LOL, maybe try not having the bill do those things then?
Virginia Foxx doesn't like words like cut, rip, or cruel being used to describe the bill.

Maybe she should try explaining it to the American people.
Tell them why billionaires get more while their kids lose meals, care, and housing.
If the truth sounds cruel, maybe the bill is.
Maybe the critics are telling the truth about how bad the Big Ugly Bill is for the American people.! Those words describe how shitty the whole thing is.
That old windbag Republican Virginia Foxx knows that Donald Trump and Republicans’ “big, beautiful bill” is all of these awful things, but she doesn’t want people to say them.
