The car thread ...

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

While the Cybertruck's banning is unlikely to have a major impact on the overall EV uptake in any of the U.K.'s countries, it could continue to hurt Tesla's overall European sales, which have been declining at a sharp rate in recent months....
A better decision than some stupid leftist attempt to use a molotov.

The Elon fuckups just keep compounding:
Tesla customers shocked after uncovering truth about 'new' vehicles they purchased — and it's part of a discouraging trend

Tesla customers have serious concerns about receiving vehicles that have deteriorated from months of outdoor storage, as one Texas buyer discovered when they learned their "new" Cybertruck had been sitting in a lot since January....
Opps. Otoh, I don't have any sympathy for people who are still buying Teslas, especially Cybertrucks.

I dove by the local Tesla dealership a couple of days ago, must've been ten cybertrucks on the lot.

Never seen that before.

IS IT A BIRD? ‘Car embedded in building AGAIN’ – Shocking moment vehicle smashes into newly repaired roof of veteran’s hall a 2nd time
Watch the shocking car crash in our player

THIS is the shocking moment a car flew through the air and smashed into the roof of a local veteran's hall for the second time in just three months.

The Clay-Ray Veterans Memorial Hall in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, was still repairing its roof when a driver lodged their vehicle in it again.

... Locals first spotted a car lodged in the roof of the hall back in February

But just three months later on Wednesday morning, a driver suffered a medical emergency at the wheel causing their vehicle to fly off the road and become embedded in the exact same part of the roof....

Shocking footage shows the moment the car goes airborne before colliding with the roof of the building scattering debris everywhere.

The engine can be seen being launched out of the car due to the impact and disintegrating as it hit the ground near the building's flagpole....

"If that engine comes out I couldn't imagine how a human wouldn't come out of the car if he wasn't wearing a seatbelt," Lt. Ryan Dowdy from the Excelsior Springs police told the outlet.

Driver Corrie Wright, 56, who was later identified by cops as an Excelsior Springs resident was able to walk away from the crash to an ambulance.

He had suffered a seizure at the wheel at around 7:20 am local time which caused him to veer off the road and crash into the building, family and police reported.

Wright was volunteering for the Good Samaritan Center and was on his way to drop off food when he had the seizure.

He suffered minor to moderate injuries and will not face any criminal charges as a result the Excelsior Citizen reported.

Posting to Facebook, the veterans organization said, "Here we go AGAIN!! Round 2."

Locals joked in the comments asking, "Have yall considered putting a 'No Parking' sign up there?"

Another suggested repairing the roof and adding in a ramp "that redirects cars back onto the road like a loop-de-loop kind of thing"....

Car thread, music thread, whatever. So ZZ Top is most associated with the "Eliminator" the car in vids like "Gimme All Your Loving".

Image

But Billy Gibbons' real car was quite a bit more radical. Originally a '48 Cadillac, $900K later it turned into the "CadZZilla"

$900K for a car that can't handle USFS roads? :puke-left:

We've got car show season starting - today there was a 350-car street show. Lot of 50's and some Camaros (for neoplacebo), but mostly hotrods and older models including a 1934 Chevrolet Phaeton - fewer than 300 made and all sent to Australia. (This pic isn't from today, but it's the same model)

Later this month, we've got an all-woody show at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, then the low-riders show, and "Cruising Grande" every Friday night in Escondido through October.

About a year ago one of the backup light lens covers fell off my driver side tail light. I've not been able to find a replacement for it; only a couple of ebay listings for an entire rear tail light ($300). I removed the passenger side lens cover and still have it. Yesterday at the Wal Mart grocery store near me I saw a Camaro with the same tail lights as mine.....the passenger side lens was missing on that car but the driver side lens was still present. I started to wait until the driver came out to offer him twenty bucks for his lens cover but I didn't. Apparently, this is a common problem for 97-01 Camaros. But if anybody comes across a driver side backup light lens cover let me know. They are as rare as trump saying something true.

Maybe another one. This one is new. But he does have some that are for one or various reasons years long projects. Sometimes it's the customer. SIL may offer choices - do it now, expensive. Work on it off and on as he has time, lots cheaper. Sometimes he is at the mercy of a subcontractor for engine or upholstery work. Mostly his build time for a frame-up build is 6 months.

Ah, I didn't know or didn't remember that it's a business. I thought you were talking about personal projects.

So ever since I made an effort to help neoplacebo find his backup light lens, I've been getting random ads for car parts, none of them for anything I searched for. F'rinstance, I got an ad for this: "OER Left Hand Park Lamp Assembly For 1980 Chevy/GMC Trucks Rectangular Headlamps"
Image

And then in direct reference to the car I had been looking for, I see this: "This item doesn't fit... Camaro"

This morning I was reading a story about Chevrolet's 302 engine. It was basically a parts bin operation, taking various parts from other engines to create this one. The engine was specifically developed for the Trans Am racing circuit (the engines had to be less than 5 liter) and Chevrolet won that circuit for the next two years with the 302. Then GM decided to use the engine in the Camaro with Z28 trim. What shocked me was finding out that from 67 to 69 only 27,000 Camaros were built in the Z28 trim. I still remember a friend of mine had a 69, blue with the white stripes, and how much fun it was to drive. He paid $1,800 and a pound of pot for it. That was in 71.

After reading that story I refer to above, I decided to find out how many Camaros Chevrolet produced in the three year period 67-69. It was just under a million in total. So only 27,000 of those million Camaros were Z28s. I never realized how rare they actually are. Also looked up total Corvette production for that same period and found that ten times more Corvettes were made in those years than Z28s.
