The confrontation broke out as hundreds of people protested in front of the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles, where several of the newly-arrived National Guard troops stood shoulder to shoulder behind plastic riot shields.
Video showed uniformed officers shooting off the smoke-filled canisters as they advanced into the street, forcing protesters to retreat. It was not immediately clear what prompted the use of chemical irritants or which law enforcement agency fired them.
Minutes later, loud popping sounds erupted again, as some protesters chanted “go home” and “shame.” One person was taken to the ground by uniformed officers. Another appeared to be bleeding from their head.
Around 300 National Guard troops arrived in Los Angeles early Sunday on orders from Trump, who accused Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Democrats of failing to stanch recent protests targeting immigration agents.
Trump told reporters as he prepared to board Air Force One in Morristown, New Jersey, Sunday that there were “violent people” in Los Angeles “and they’re not gonna get away with it.”
Asked if he planned to send U.S. troops to Los Angeles, Trump replied: “We’re gonna have troops everywhere. We’re not going to let this happen to our country. We’re not going to let our country be torn apart like it was under Biden.”
Trump also said that California officials who stand in the way of the deportations could face charges. A Wisconsin judge was arrested last month on accusations she helped a man evade immigration authorities.
“If officials stay in the way of law and order, yeah, they will face charges,”

Lifelong consequences like getting a presidential pardon. Justice is blind? Nah. They've proven that it isn't. If these people didn't have double standards, they'd have no standards at all.
I watched the storming of the Capitol live as many of you posting here likely had as well. They have no leg to stand on when it comes to calling for justice given that they don't live by the same rules and moral standards they require for everyone else.

The fascist Tarrio, who got pardoned from his 22 year sentence, now wants to sue the govenment for arresting him in the first place. I think he wants 100 million dollars. I wonder if trump's "justice" department will fight this (the president did pardon him) or settle the case by paying the fascist. And shold this happen, the trump regime will not recognize such a payment as waste, fraud, or abuse. In fact, this payment would qualify for all three of those.
Glendale, California, which is located just minutes from Los Angeles where anti-ICE protests erupted this weekend, has decided to end a contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to hold detainees in its jail.
In a press release Sunday, city officials said that “public perception of the ICE contract—no matter how limited or carefully managed, no matter the good—has become divisive.”
“And while opinions on this issue may vary—the decision to terminate this contract is not politically driven. It is rooted in what this City stands for—public safety, local accountability, and trust,” the statement said.
Ahead of the unrest in Los Angeles, Glendale had come under some scrutiny over a 2007 contract to house ICE detainees despite a 2018 sanctuary state law ensuring that no local law enforcement resources are used for the purpose of immigration enforcement....
“The Glendale Police Department has not engaged in immigration enforcement, nor will it do so moving forward,” the statement said....
The decision on behalf of Glendale is a victory for the protesters and a clear response to the ongoing direct action in Los Angeles, as well as the Trump administration’s escalating efforts to conduct mass deportations of undocumented immigrants.

Technically their deployment doesn't violate Posse Comitatus. Supposedly they're just "protecting" federal property. Not acting in a policing manner. It's absolutely an unnecessary escalation though.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Monday that California would sue the Trump administration for calling in the National Guard, saying that the state’s sovereignty had been “trampled” by the president. In a post on X, Newsom said that Trump’s decision to call in the National Guard was a deliberate move to make things worse.
“This is a manufactured crisis,” Newsom wrote. “[Trump] is creating fear and terror to take over a state militia and violate the U.S. constitution.”
Newsom called for states’ to reject Trump’s overreach. “This is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism that threatens the foundation of our republic,” he wrote. “We cannot let it stand.”

And it's nowhere near the extent of the 2020 George Floyd riots, nor the 1992 LA riots. Trump wanted to send in soldiers during 2020 riots but was prevented by his handlers and other adults.
And once again, let's not forget the Capitol building was quite literally stormed by people trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power and they were all pardoned. We all watched it unfold live. He has no leg to stand on whatsoever. But we all already know this.

There will probably a time when military commanders refuse a trump order as an illegal order. They will be fired and their subordinate will probably carry it out.
Investigations and charges will be filed under the next administration.
The Supremes gave him immunity for "presidential acts", but does that immunity also cover Cabinet Secretaries and military commanders?
The founders never envisioned this. This is what they sought to avoid.

On the other hand, the longer this goes on, I feel the more emboldened these protesters will be.
I feel bad for the legitimate protestors who are voicing their concerns peacefully. The idiots who are just using the situation to vandalize property and loot businesses should be shot dead. And anyone who commits violence against the police has no right to complain if violence is returned upon them.
