Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Remember how in the LNF I always predicted a new civil war? Tick-tock, tick-tock…
Wasn't that when Biden was president?

Before that. I’m pretty sure I was predicting it for as long as I can remember. Well, at least since I joined the LNF.

The real question: How will this end?

I highly doubt Trump and ICE are going to just pack up and leave. That would send a terrible message. You can’t let lawless mobs win.

On the other hand, the longer this goes on, I feel the more emboldened these protesters will be.

I feel bad for the legitimate protestors who are voicing their concerns peacefully. The idiots who are just using the situation to vandalize property and loot businesses should be shot dead. And anyone who commits violence against the police has no right to complain if violence is returned upon them.
A well reasoned post Jasmine. Where does breaking into stores and looting fit into "peaceful protest"?

It doesn't. But of all the people protesting on the streets of LA, what percentage are looters? Has history in any country shown that the best way to quell protests is by increasing force? Examples, please. Well, there was Tiananmen Square, I suppose, if one calls that a success. And there's always the long-lasting effect of Kent State. Oh yeah, and Chicago '68. Win-win for all.

Honestly don't know.

4D chess player trump better do some serious thinking before he triples down. What happens if this spreads across the country?
It's Fascist TACO Don's intention to militarize the country, at least the Black and Brown cities. Things are going according to 4D plan.
As I say:

'We're happy to have this fight': Trump administration leans into California protests

"happy"? It's a national shame no matter which side one is on.
... the White House has threatened to arrest California’s governor and mobilized Marines to support National Guard troops in defending federal property — even though state officials say they don’t want the assistance and are now suing the administration....

“This Administration’s actions are not about public safety — they’re about stoking fear,” former Vice President Kamala Harris, a Los Angeles resident who ran against Trump last year, wrote in a statement....

“This is what America voted for, period,” a Trump adviser said....
Still lying about that. Most of America voted AGAINST DonOld.
... Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have argued that inserting National Guard troops will inflame tensions and potential violence — a response that has led Trump to signal he would consider arresting Newsom if he were to continue what the administration considers to be his interference.
Accurate predictions. :---P
... “He’s a tough guy. Why doesn’t he do that? He knows where to find me,” Newsom told MSNBC on Sunday. Referring to Homan, he added: “That kind of bloviating is exhausting. So, Tom, arrest me. Let’s go.” ...
TACO, always.

"Completely unacceptable": Several journalists injured by law enforcement while covering LA protests

The Committee to Protect Journalists released a statement Monday noting that several journalists have sustained injuries from law enforcement while reporting on protests of Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids in Los Angeles over the weekend.

“Any attempt to discourage or silence media coverage by intimidating or injuring journalists should not be tolerated,” Katherine Jacobsen, CPJ U.S., Canada, and Caribbean program coordinator, said in the statement....

A British photojournalist, Nick Stern, was also taken into emergency surgery on Sunday after being hit in the thigh by a three-inch plastic bullet fired by police. Stern told the BBC that he was being “very deliberate and very obvious" about his role as media, wearing his press pass and a huge camera around his neck.

... Other reporters injured by law enforcement over the weekend include Ryanne Mena, a crime reporter with the Los Angeles Daily News, and Sean Beckner-Carmitchel, a freelance reporter, who were both shot with nonlethal rounds and teargassed by law enforcement. A New York Times reporter also visited the hospital after sustaining injuries from a nonlethal round.

You guys should appreciate the happenings on 1/6/23. Without that you would not have a distraction for other issues. A shallow point that not ALL protestors are looting. People understand that.

Jan 6th wouldn't have been a counterpoint had Donald Trump not blanket pardoned all of the rioters. He made it such. And as such, it's an incredibly valid counterpoint given the specific rhetoric he and his administration have been using as they've repeatedly and directly contradicted themselves. Why is this a problem? It's important a person, especially a leader, has consistent values.

At least as far as I've seen, no one here is specifically excusing those who are looting and partaking in destruction. I disagree with those actions and believe they do more harm than anything else. Don't misinterpret this: the Jan 6 pardons do not excuse those in LA partaking in the destruction of property. Both can be wrong.

Ditto.

Often, people being destructive or violent are opportunists without political goals, or are provocateurs working for the police or other reactionary forces. It's not like the undocumented are stupid enough to risk these busts and certain, rapid deportation.

National Guard troops are now protecting ICE agents as they make arrests in Los Angeles

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth suggested Tuesday that the use of troops inside the U.S. will continue to expand.

“I think we’re entering another phase, especially under President Trump with his focus on the homeland, where the National Guard and Reserves become a critical component of how we secure that homeland,” he said on Capitol Hill

Pentagon Says Deploying Marines And National Guard To LA Protests Is Costing $134 Million
The money will come from operations and maintenance accounts, said Pete Hegseth's acting comptroller, Bryn Woollacott MacDonnell.

:wtf: Vs a few thousand in property damage feels like a cost-benefit fail.
... “Your tenure as secretary has been marked by endless chaos,” Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., told Hegseth. Others, including Republican leaders, warned that massive spending projects such as President Donald Trump’s desire for a $175 billion Golden Dome missile defense system will get broad congressional scrutiny....

Lawmakers take aim at Pentagon’s planned spending

Lawmakers complained widely that Congress hasn’t yet gotten details of the administration’s first proposed defense budget, which Trump has said would total $1 trillion, a significant increase over the current spending level of more than $800 billion. And they said they are unhappy with the administration’s efforts to go around Congress to push through changes.

Key spending issues that have raised questions in recent weeks include plans to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on security upgrades to turn a Qatari jet into Air Force One and to pour as much as $45 million into a parade recently added to the Army’s 250th birthday bash, which coincides with Trump’s birthday Saturday....

Hegseth suggested that the use of troops for homeland defense will continue to expand.

“I think we’re entering another phase, especially under President Trump with his focus on the homeland, where the National Guard and reserves become a critical component of how we secure that homeland,” he said.

Trump Says He's Done Playing By The Rules With Military Forces
He also cited the Los Angeles Olympics, which are three years away, as a defense for sending in National Guard troops.

:wtf: Um, those "Rules" are the Constitution, the Posse Comitatus Act and other relevant laws, wannabe Dictator.
... Trump’s remarks come a day after California sued Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for federalizing and deploying the California National Guard to help crush the protests, which have gone on for days in the Los Angeles area and are now spreading nationwide.

“Deploying over 4,000 federalized military forces to quell a protest or prevent future protests despite the lack of evidence that local law enforcement was incapable of asserting control and ensuring public safety during such protests represents the exact type of intrusion on State Power that is at the heart of the Tenth Amendment,” the lawsuit argued.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta said Monday it was clear there was “no risk of rebellion, no threat of foreign invasion, no inability for the federal government to enforce federal laws” when Trump sent in the National Guard....
