Peaceful Protests

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Walmart distances itself from heiress'

"Great, a left-wing billionaire feels like burning some of her inheritance for a PR stunt. It’s not going to change the fact that over 77 million Americans voted for mass deportations, border security, and America First trade policies — a mandate that the Trump administration is committed to using every lever of executive power to deliver on," a White House spokesperson said.

Walmart appeared to distance itself from Walton and her activism in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying, "We condemn violence, including when it’s directed towards law enforcement, and the damaging of property."

"As a company with associates and customers in the Los Angeles region, we remain focused on their safety and that of impacted communities. The advertisements from Christy Walton are in no way connected to or endorsed by Walmart. She does not serve on the board or play any role in decision making at Walmart," the company statement added.

Very good turnout here locally, maybe 1,500 (one of three panoramic shots I took).

Downtown Chicago is huge.

They're also picketing in front of trump tower.

Lots of activity around here. All the beach towns had big turnouts, and there were several groups from different downtown areas then combined. Put in perspective:
Jan-May in Trump's first year of first term, about 4,500 protest demonstrations nationwide
Jan-May in Biden't first year of first term, about 10,000
Jan-May of this year, more than 45,000 and that didn't count today.
And there's a lotta people who aren't happy, but aren't into protests.

I'd think repug congresscritters would be shitting their pants. In the wilds where Trump is the strongest, he still is - e.g. Mississippi, South Dakata, yada, but those places don't have many people or representatives. Places that were purple-ish or light red might all be flippable. Particularly when you consider that some of those places are in mostly blue states that Trump is trying to beat up on.

2,500 gather in downtown Hendersonville for "No Kings" protest of federal actions

 I'm so proud!
... They chanted “Power to the people, Chuck Edwards is a coward,” referring to a perception among his critics that the U.S. House Republican is unwilling to push back against President Donald Trump’s agenda.

... At around 11:15 a.m., organizers paused the protest to hold a moment of silence for Minnesota Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman, who Reuters reported was shot and killed that morning, along with her husband, in what authorities say was a political assassination.
... “I marched in Memphis. I never thought I'd have to do this again,” Fannie Smith, 68, told the Times-News soon after, seeming to refer both to political violence and the need for civil rights activism related to immigration.

Smith, a former employee of the Executive Office for Immigration Review, said that she would march to the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, the site of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s 1968 assassination, on MLK Day starting in the 1980s.

“People think that small towns don't care, a red county doesn't care,” she said. “But there are people here that do care. We love our country. We love our flag.”
... The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office provided the Times-News a brief written statement saying that the June 14 protest was respectful of the community and of law enforcement, but did not address criticism of its cooperation with ICE.
My sign:
SOs and PDs: No Service to ICE
Rep. Edwards’ office couldn’t be reached for comment by deadline.
:D I'll bet.

Asheville 'No Kings' protest draws thousands, closes roads; demonstrations across the US

... While officially planned in the park from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., protestors marched to Pack Square Park around 11 a.m., closing sections of College and Charlotte streets along the way. By that time, roughly 3,000 people had gathered in protest, Indivisible organizer Alyssa Morgan told the Citizen Times. By around 1 p.m., the crowd had grown to around 6,000....

For example, Bussey, Iowa (pop 387) in solid red Marion County. With over 1900 No Kings protests there was room for lots of diversity. ;)

So in greater LA, people are making life miserable for any ICE agents when they find hotels they're staying in. Mariachi music, calling up hotel and asking if ICE is there and telling them if it turns out there are some there will be (legal) disturbances and probably annoy their other guests. They'll also be publicized as "ICE sanctuaries".

Charged with third degree arson, indecent exposure, interference with official acts, fifth degree theft, possession of drug paraphernalia. The last one explains a lot.
