Iran War

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

No nuke = WAR CRIME. DonOLD's attack might be, anyhow, but this makes it far worse. Shame that the lifelong cowardly "bone spurs" Chickenhawk in Chief has made so many air warriors, submariners and other brave military complicit. They'll never live it down.
No wonder other Nations saw America as a weak Nation under what was democratic leadership. Not only do you portray yourself as a "Rainbow", you verbally exemplify it.

Anyone believe it?

If true, anyone think it'll stick?

(Trump braggadocio)
Oh, I guess it's possible that long-time enemies Israel and Iran, led by sabre-rattling dictator and dictator wannabe, could suddenly - maybe out of respect for the Great and Wise Master Negotiator - decide to abide by a cease-fire and live peacefully ever after. But that would be uncharacteristic of anything they've ever done in the past, and even including Israel's ignoring the "cease fire" of Gaza. Israel has to be (or seem) the baddest dude in the valley, without compromise. That's why they've refused any kind of two-country settlement. They can't stand "giving" anything. Iran hasn't actually caused much trouble lately, but the Persian/Muslim culture doesn't lose face gracefully.

So yeah, while it's conceivable that some terms could be worked out over time, it seems highly unlikely that they "all agreed" to "immediate cease fire" and a good faith attempt to resolve their differences.

Iran likes to operate through proxies:
The Shia running Iraq
Bashar al-Assad in Syria
Hezbollah
Hamas
The Yemeni Houthis attacking shipping in the Red Sea

If they've gotten their asses kicked by Israel and know that it's hopeless vs the US, too, they can stand down and rely on asymmetric warfare, instead.

How do y'all feel about the US being able to stealthily deliver 60,000 lbs of precision ordnance from Missouri to anywhere in the world at the whim of a fascist wannabe dictator?

That's a rational theory. Now if we could just expect rationality out of a guy who's been the "supreme leader" for 30-something years and mandated such things as banning women from riding bicycles. Or rationality out of NuttyYahoo who has shown none in the past.

If the ceasefire holds and things calm down, this then appears to be an actual win by the Trump administration. Can we conclude that the gamble his administration took in bombing Iran's nuclear sites paid off? At least in the short term?

In any case, I hope things de-escalate.

Edit: just saw a headline stating that Israel claims Iran violated the ceasefire and is going to retaliate. Trump warned Israel to not fire any more missiles.

Guess we'll see.

Tenuous at best.
Trump weighs in: President Donald Trump flashed intense anger today as the ceasefire he brokered between Israel and Iran appeared to grow more fragile. The president conveyed he was unhappy in particular with Israel, who he said quickly violated the truce. Trump held a “firm and direct” call with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu this morning.

I would not be surprised if, in the next month or two, Iran initiates cyberattacks on US interests like the banking system, the power grid, or just internet access overall. If that happens, things will rapidly shut down....no electricity to pump gas or total up items at the store, no way to get money from your bank account. They have demonstrated in the past that they have some capable hackers around. We'll see what happens.

Supposedly their nuclear program has only been set back a few months

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/24/us/p ... sites.html
A preliminary classified U.S. report says the American bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites sealed off the entrances to two of the facilities but did not collapse their underground buildings, according to officials familiar with the findings.

The early findings conclude that the strikes over the weekend set back Iran’s nuclear program by only a few months, the officials said.

...

The White House took issue with the assessment. Karoline Leavitt, a White House spokeswoman, said it was “flat-out wrong.”

“The leaking of this alleged assessment is a clear attempt to demean President Trump, and discredit the brave fighter pilots who conducted a perfectly executed mission to obliterate Iran’s nuclear program,” she said in a statement. “Everyone knows what happens when you drop 14 30,000-pound bombs perfectly on their targets: total obliteration.”

...

U.S. intelligence agencies had concluded before the strikes that Iran had not made the decision to make a nuclear weapon, but possessed enough enriched uranium that if it decided to make a bomb, it could do so relatively quickly.

While intelligence officials had predicted that a strike on Fordo or other nuclear facilities by the United States could prompt Iran to make a bomb, U.S. officials said they do not know yet if Iran would do so.

And the media war is on.

The military and intelligence community are doing the sane thing, you simply can't know the extent of the destruction 300 feet below the surface from a bomb that's never been dropped before.

Unlike the Whitehouse.

This alleged "assessment" is flat-out wrong and was classified as "top secret" but was still leaked to CNN by an anonymous, low-level loser in the intelligence community.

The leaking of this alleged assessment is a clear attempt to demean President Trump, and discredit the brave fighter pilots who conducted a perfectly executed mission to obliterate Iran’s nuclear program.

Everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000 pound bombs perfectly on their targets: total obliteration.

UN nuclear chief estimates damage to Iran’s facilities ‘very significant’

Rafael Grossi on Monday told an emergency board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) – the UN’s nuclear watchdog – that craters caused by ground-penetrating US bombs were visible at Fordow, the cornerstone of Iran’s nuclear enrichment programme.
