Vrede is getting a little chilly tonight.

14 degrees here now. Not going outside.....avoiding shrinkage.
:D That's important. We had a skiff of snow a couple of days. I guess the less than 3" so far this year, never lasting 24 hours, technically ends our 1000+ day snow drought  50s now, 60s in a couple of days.

So much for Groundhog Day having any relevance here.
Several nights last week saw single digit temps. Also had about three inches of snow early last week. Supposed to be warmer this week. Man, the older I get, the more I hate cold weather.

Do they get out their foul weather gear?

A quarter inch? Better than nothing.

 Yeah, actually they do send one of them outdoors a la Jim Cantore to stand out in the rain.
Funny thing, this time last year was literally flooding.

Weather chicks do get to report on four different climates - coast, inland/valleys, mountains, and desert. So they get to talk about snow as well as high heat. But choices are still pretty much limited. NTTAWWT

We've had a couple of weeks pretending to be winter. Otherwise, Autumn > Spring. 71 degrees F on Tuesday.

Fuck off, Phil.

We're getting 2-3 rainy days with an expected total of about an inch and a half or so. About a typical Florida afternoon shower. Weather chicks are wetting their pants. Fill up your car, stock up groceries, bring in the pets, turn around don't drown. Stay off the road if you can. And snow! Sure it's on top of mountains where nobody lives, but snow! No fire, though, so all is good.

O Really wins. An inch and a half of rain in SD is more disruptive than 4-6 inches of snow in Chicago. :D

Hellene, what Hellene? Forecast here is sunny and warm, forever.
Critical Weather Forecasters Fired In Latest 'Unconscionable' Wave Of DOGE Cuts
Democratic Rep. Grace Meng warned that the firing of hundreds of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration staff will endanger American lives.

Hundreds of weather forecasters and other federal National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration employees on probationary status were fired Thursday, lawmakers and weather experts said.

Federal workers who were not let go said the afternoon layoffs included meteorologists who do crucial local forecasts in National Weather Service offices across the country.

Cuts at NOAA appeared to be happening in two rounds, one of 500 and one of 800, said Craig McLean, a former NOAA chief scientist who said he got the information from someone with first-hand knowledge.

That’s about 10% of NOAA’s workforce....

Rep. Grace Meng, D-N.Y., released a statement saying: “Today, hundreds of employees at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), including weather forecasters at the National Weather Service (NWS), were given termination notices for no good reason. This is unconscionable.”

Meng added: “These are dedicated, hardworking Americans whose efforts help save lives and property from the devastating impacts of natural disasters across the country. This action will only endanger American lives going forward.”

Rep. Jared Huffman, a California Democrat who is the ranking minority member in the House Natural Resources Committee, also said “hundreds of scientists and experts at NOAA” were let go.

Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at the University of California, Los Angeles, said on social media that the job cuts “are spectacularly short-sighted, and ultimately will deal a major self-inflicted wound to the public safety of Americans and the resiliency of the American economy to weather and climate-related disasters.”

USA being sent to the chop shop
We're already seeing the effects in government of cuts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service (NWS):
Trump Complains Biden Let Thunderstorms Into the U.S.

... Asked by one journalist about the threat of Iranian retaliation on U.S. soil following strikes against three nuclear sites in the Islamic Republic over the weekend, the president was quick to pin the blame on Joe Biden.

“Biden let a lot of supercells into the United States. He was an incompetent president. He had no idea what he was doing,” Trump said in audio of the exchange obtained by Fox News.

“It was gross incompetence,” he went on. “Among everything else, he let a lot of supercells in, many from Iran. But hopefully we’ll take care of them. What Biden did to this country should never be forgotten.”
"incompetent ... gross incompetence" - Irony.
... Another journalist aboard the aircraft pointed out that at a time of increasing conflict, many member states have expressed concern over the president’s historically tepid view of Article Five, pertaining to NATO’s provisions for mutual defense.

Asked whether he stood by those provisions, Trump responded, “Depends on your definition.”

“There’s numerous definitions of Article Five, you know that, right? But I’m committed to being their friends,” he said. “I’m gonna give you an exact definition when I get there. I just don’t wanna do it on the back of an airplane.”
 He'll do that "in 2 weeks."

Maybe it's a concept of a plan that many are standing by to get ready to come up with. And it will be in two weeks. Meanwhile, it's hot as dammit around here....low 90's the past few days. One can feel a feverish beat by just standing outside.

We're up at Big Bear lake for a few days this week. 7000 ft, cloudless skies and 73 degrees. I guess that's what Biden gives you for weather when you vote for him.
