There's differing opinions on the matter. In United States federal courts, a circuit split, also known as a split of authority or split in authority, occurs when two or more different circuit courts of appeals provide conflicting rulings on the same legal issue.[1] The existence of a circuit split is one of the factors that the Supreme Court of the United States considers when deciding whether to grant review of a case.[2] Some scholars suggest that the Supreme Court is more likely to grant review of a case to resolve a circuit split than for any other reason.[3]

Was doing some reading, apparently nationwide injunctions from a lower court being applicable to the entire country weren't really a thing throughout most US history. There's something known as Circuit Splitting, when two district courts have conflicting rulings. Usually the supreme court gets involved when this happens: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuit_split

I think so. To be fair, I didn't like it when that extremist Texas judge was issuing nationwide misogynist rulings against Biden policy.Whack9 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 27, 2025 10:35 amSCOTUS rules in Birthright Citizenship Case
6-3 decision from court’s conservative majority could imperil scope of damning court rulings against president’s agenda

So if a federal district court issues an injunction on something because it rules it unconstitutional, that ruling only applies to that specific district, and does not apply nationwide? The Supreme Court's conservative majority has stripped federal courts’ authority to issue nationwide injunctions that have blocked key parts of Donald Trump’s agenda.
Yes.Does this mean we will have multiple, competing, interpretations of the constitution depending on which district you live in? Can something be ruled unconstitutional and therefore illegal in one district, but still be legal in another? How would that even work? What's the point in even having a constitution?
We have abortion legal some places and not others.
We used to have same sex marriage legal some places and not others.
District rulings get appealed. When enough Appeals Court rulings conflict SCOTUS takes up the substance of the issue, in this case birthright citizenship (as you posted while I was composing). AFAIK, TACO's EO was not retroactive. That would be a real mess.
It's not ideal, but I think there's some rationale for limiting the power of individual district courts. It's a shame this was a partisan ruling.

Today was a great day for the conservative cause. An underrated but really appreciated decision was giving parents the right to opt out their kids from reading LGBQT books. It’s absurd that this case even had to get this far. A big victory for parental rights!

Yeah, that'll be good for the kids. Btw, what's the usual reaction to banned books? Are people including kids more or less likely to seek them out?

Algebra is okay, but trigonometry is commie indoctrination.
Because they are part of the human experience. Are you also going to ban all books with princes and princesses? Human and animal reproduction? Historical hetero couples, etc? If not, then YOU are sexualizing kids, but just with a narrow view of what YOU consider acceptable. Fine, do that in your home, just don't force my kids to follow bigoted curricula, or to have their education disrupted by you minority bigots.

I see, in your view Alexander the Great, Bayard Rustin, Ellen DeGeneres, Freddie Mercury, Rock Hudson, Elton John, Billie Jean King, Megan Rapinoe, Sen Lindsey Graham (suspected), Jodie Foster and so on, endlessly, are not part of the human experience. Talk about "silly".
