Tucked inside Republicans' massive domestic policy bill is an excise tax for wind and solar projects, a provision that came as a surprise not just to the renewable energy industry, but also to numerous senators who are crafting the legislation.

In a twist, Republican senators insist they don't know how or why the tax was inserted into the bill they're rushing to pass. No senator is taking credit for or defending it....

The excise tax for wind and solar projects was removed from the Senate bill before passage . I suspect that ending subsidies stayed in the bill, but the article I read did not say.

What I find fascinating is how the allegedly pro business GQP have effectively decimated American alternate energy programs. Over a lying whiny culture war issue. That they would sacrifice any future American advancements in wind, solar, or battery development, as well as trying to immediately destroy American competitiveness in an emerging technology while at the same time hasnding China a massive gift is quite something. Hell, even Melon Musk has pointed this out.....purposely sabotaging new technology in favor of existing and inevitably doomed technology. That takes real pretzel thinking and more than a little money changing hands. Despicable. Stupid. Corrupt.

The tax was dumped, but I'd like to see an analysis of what effect the end of green subsidies will have.

It’s hard to be excited about perceived tax cuts—like the no tax on tips provision—when they’re easily outweighed by the costs incurred by cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act. And furthermore, lower-income people who rely on tips already qualify for the standard tax deduction in federal taxes. The math here only makes a significant difference for higher earners, and makes virtually none at all for those who need it the most. Many of the people this provision is supposed to help are already making below a living wage, which is why tips are so important here in the first place.

The deduction is also only available until 2028.

President Donald Trump on Friday made a wild new claim about wind power as he renewed his attacks on renewable energy.

Trump complained that many of the components used in wind turbines are made in China, then suggested that China itself doesn’t actually use wind turbines.

“I have never seen a wind farm in China,” Trump declared. “Why is that? Somebody check that out.”

In reality, China is far and away the world’s leading producer of wind energy, with more than triple the current U.S. wind capacity.

Trump, however, has long had issues with renewable energy ― especially wind, which he has called “bullshit” and “a hoax,” a grudge he has held since a dispute over an offshore wind farm near one of his resorts.

Now, Trump might finally get his way as his “big beautiful bill” will wipe out tax credits for wind and solar power, potentially decimating the industry. The Rhodium Group, a research firm, estimates the bill will put a stop to between 57% and 72% of new solar and wind projects.

Trump should be able to know this.
