Can't believe it's been ten years.
May be the most dominant pitcher for that period I've ever seen.
May be the most dominant pitcher for that period I've ever seen.
His final numbers from that stretch: 29 GS | 24-1 | 0.99 ERA
Chicago was 27-2 during the stretch, and Arrieta had as many home runs hit as he allowed (4).
This stands as, in my opinion, the greatest stretch of baseball ever by a pitcher. The only way to beat him was to beat him at his own game.

Bobby Jenks, 2-Time All-Star Closer And World Series Champion With The Chicago White Sox, Dies At 44
Bobby Jenks, a two-time All-Star closer and World Series champion with the Chicago White Sox, has died.
Bobby Jenks, a two-time All-Star closer and World Series champion with the Chicago White Sox, has died, the team announced Saturday. He was 44.
The White Sox said Jenks died Friday in Sintra, Portugal, where he was being treated for adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer.
Jenks helped the White Sox win the 2005 World Series, saving four games in six appearances during the postseason. He was an All-Star in each of the next two seasons while saving 41 games in 2006 and 40 in 2007.
He retired 41 consecutive batters in 2007, matching a record for a reliever.
“He was embarrassing guys, good hitters, right away,” former White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko said in a video tribute....
Jenks is survived by his wife, Eleni Tzitzivacos, their two children, Zeno and Kate, and his four children from a prior marriage, Cuma, Nolan, Rylan and Jackson.
“As a teammate,” former White Sox outfielder Aaron Rowand said, “he was the best.”

Pete Crow Armstrong Just Caught a Ball With a 0% Catch Probability
I was at the game. When I saw that catch, I told myself that this had just become a game I will always remember. And that was before the eight home runs.
PCA's sunglasses are now on the injured listA pair of $7 utility sunglasses were called up from the checkout display at CVS, in a corresponding move.Walk it off!
As a Mets fan, this stings like none other…
I was at the game. Amazing catch. And he also went 5 for 5 with two home runs. What a performance! Cubs overall hit 8 home runs, setting a franchise record.

Re: Baseball
What's amazing out of him is he makes it look so easy. AFAIK, he's the second fastest player in baseball and his ball read is so good that these would be spectacular catches from any other player. His power at the plate has been a big surprise, we knew he had some but not like this. He's a pretty small guy but his bat speed is terrific (he's just got to learn to lay off the high fastball). Also, one of the better arms in the outfield.
A real five tool player.
Thanks Javy Baez!

Must be an incentive to throw strikes. Otherwise, you're giving up a double to the speedy players.neoplacebo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 9:24 amVrede too wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 9:31 amneoplacebo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 8:31 amYou beat me to it, hominy. I like the Banana Splits and the Banana Nanas. Selling out NFL stadiums? Bananas!Yeah, it'd be fun to serve as a commentator for them. I would focus on the novel rules like if a fan catches a foul, it's an out. And I could inject suspicion now and then by suggesting a certain player "looks like the sort of fellow to bunt" (no bunting allowed). And I'd use Curly's "woo, woo, woo.woo" line on each walk, which is now called a sprint and all members of the other team must touch the ball before tagging the sprinter. WOO WOO WOO WOO

Re: Baseball
I can see how there's a lot of strategy regarding a sprint. I assume the catcher does not have to touch the ball again once the sprint is announced. All outfielders should immediately run to somewhere around 2nd base in order to touch the ball as quick as possible. I do figure there's ways to catch a sprinter. Hell, he could be tagged out between first and second if everybody goes bananas.Vrede too wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 11:45 amMust be an incentive to throw strikes.
