The cat pan posted pics of a group of people watching an American flag burn...a small fire in the middle of a street and another one of some guy holding two Mexican flags with smoke and flame in the left foreground. Neither pic has any context whatsoever, so it's impossible to tell when or where they were taken. Probably from some nutjob media outlet or some scum pit social media group fondle. Most don't see his nonsense. Neo sees all.

Opps! Forgot to mention that Friday or Saturday I watched video of trump walking along some riverside place in TX and among several flags visible as if they were intended to be there, was a Mexican flag. I think this was on ABC evening news. I bet the dumbass didn't even recognize that flag for what it was. Probably thoght it was from some cult fan club.

Even if we give him the benefit of the doubt... wow, he found three people that were doing nothing illegal.

A fine example of the white hot ignorance that allows such idiots to be so easily manipulated. Well a flag is symbolic and may mean different things to different people. The Confederate flag, for example is seen by some as "heritage" and by others as slavers. But if we assume that waving a flag indicates pride and support, then burning a flag can indicate extreme displeasure. But bottom line if it's the US flag, the Union Jack, the Pride flag or the big "3" Earnhardt flag, it's still just a symbol and as far as I'm concerned can be waved, saluted or burned as a matter of speech. It only bothers people who take one persons insult to a symbol as being an insult to them.

In this case, I think it's perfect symbolism. American is burning right now. We have an administration that doesn't give two shits about America or the constitution. They're burning it in much worse ways than burning a piece of fabric.

I try to keep my eyes on the prize. I think it's counterproductive as a protest tactic, as much as I would RW xenophobes burning a Mexican flag. Once I've established in my mind that some act hurts the movement I don't concern myself with the moral, symbolic or even legal implications.

I'm also very aware that US flag burning is exactly the kind of thing that hostile provocateurs do in order to denigrate the people who are in solidarity with immigrants. So cons, don't be so sure that it's really our team doing it.

Full disclosure: One Halloween I wrapped myself in an American flag, created a large fake match out of a cardboard mailing tube, wore a sign that read, "First Amendment Beginners Kit," and went out to the bars. Mostly positive reaction in lefty Missoula, but one guy did follow me into the john to gripe. I thought we were going to fight, but that didn't happen. Phew.
