The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

So I was generally ignoring a set of commercials when a familiar tune caught my ear. Cheery little melody "H O T T O G O you can take me hot to go" and I looked up and saw a Target ad with a bunch of kittens running around. First thought: timing was a bit off to play "hot to go" and show cats, but then I wondered who in hell picked the Chappell Roan song for a family-type ad at Target and have they ever listened to the entire song? And did they understand they lyrics, including that the singer is trying to get another girl to take her home for errr fun and games?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncx5EJwyWMQ

Good song, reminiscent of the Go-Go's but hardly family-friendly.

F'rinstance:
Well, I woke up alone staring at my cеiling
I try not to care, but it hurts my feelings
You don't have to stare, comе here, get with it
No one's touched me there in a damn hot minute

[Refrain]
And baby, don't you like this beat?
I made it so you'd sleep with me
It's like a hundred ninety-nine degrees
When you're doing it with me, doing it with me

I don't know how many, if any, of you know or remember Cousin Brucie, but I listened to his show decades ago out of WABC New York. If you do remember him, you may be as surprised as I to find he's not only still alive, but still has a show at age 89.

I've been watching Ozzy & Jack's World Detour reruns. It's a fun show. What a global treasure Ozzy Osbourne (age 74) is!
That was pretty cool.

Another legend gone. It's almost like after they played their last concert, he just gave it up. Or maybe he was already in worse condition than they showed.

He didn't look well and I was surprised he only could do 5 songs.

LAD@CHC: Ozzy Osbourne sings Take Me Out To the Ballgame at Wrigley Field
GoDrugsGo! Dodgers 3-0 Cubs :( (Aug 17, 2003)
... Osbourne was twice inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — once with Sabbath in 2006 and again in 2024 as a solo artist.

The original Sabbath lineup reunited for the first time in 20 years in July for what Osbourne said would be his final concert. “Let the madness begin!” he told 42,000 fans in Birmingham.

Metallica, Guns N Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, Gojira, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Halestorm, Anthrax, Rival Sons and Mastodon all did sets. Tom Morello, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Billy Corgan, Ronnie Wood, Travis Barker, Sammy Hagar and more made appearances. Actor Jason Momoa was the host for the festivities.
Hence only 5 songs. Greatest metal concert of all time?
... Then-Cardinal John J. O’Connor of New York claimed in 1990 that Osbourne’s songs led to demonic possession and even suicide. “You are ignorant about the true meaning of my songs,” the singer wrote back. “You have also insulted the intelligence of rock fans all over the world.” ...

Ozzy's death was a surprise to the family. Still, one could suppose that he hung onto life until after the last concert. I like that story more.
