A federal judge ruled on Thursday against the Trump administration's plans and extended Temporary Protected Status for 60,000 people from Central America and Asia, including people from Nepal, Honduras and Nicaragua....

U.S. District Judge Trina L. Thompson in San Francisco did not set an expiration date but rather ruled to keep the protections in place while the case proceeds. The next hearing is Nov. 18.

In a sharply written order, Thompson said the administration ended the migrant status protections without an “objective review of the country conditions” such as political violence in Honduras and the impact of recent hurricanes and storms in Nicaragua....

Florida GOP removes new immigration merchandise after Home Depot objects

The Republican Party of Florida on Saturday removed a line of deportation-themed shirts, hats and other tchotchkes for sale on its website that mimicked The Home Depot’s logo.

The party’s line of “The Deport Depot” merch was themed on the new immigrant detention center Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled this week that he called “Deportation Depot.”

But the items bore a logo with the same recognizable orange box and stenciled font as the one belonging to The Home Depot.

Home Depot spokesperson Beth Marlowe said late Friday that the company had not approved the party to use its branding or logo....

So I followed MAGA's ummm "thought process" about immigrant treatment where they rely exclusively on "b-b-b-but they're ILLEGAL" and applied it to other comparable situations. F'rinstance, a guy steals a laptop out of Bestbuy. They didn't catch him, but got him on surveillance camera. Cops identify him and shoot him in the street while he's playing catch with his kid. MAGA - that's fine because he's a CRIMINAL. (nevermind that he's not actually a CRIMINAL until he's convicted, but that's another issue)

I thought I was exaggerating and then I see the stories of more frequent questionable traffic stops where severe cop violence arises out of basically nowhere. But that's OK because he "didn't respond to commands immediately" and lots of otherwise sane citizens approve.

The whole deal with immigration isn't whether or not a person is properly documented or whether an unproperly documented person should be deported - it's a matter of simply following the law while enforcing it. A person snuck in to the US 15 years ago and has been undocumented but productively working ever since and is now a lead gardener for a landscaping service. So you catch him and are going to deport him. He's been here 15 years - is it really necessary to not give him reasonable time to settle his life here before being sent away? Is his "crime" really equivalent to that of a violent offender?

The country is truly screwed, and it's good to be old.

US Customs and Border Protection officers opened fire during a targeted immigration enforcement operation in San Bernadino, California, on Saturday, calling it an act of self-defense after a man “struck two CBP officers with his vehicle,” the Department of Homeland Security said.

AI is unmasking ICE officers. Can Washington do anything about it?

An activist has started using artificial intelligence to identify Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents beneath their masks — a use of the technology sparking new political concerns over AI-powered surveillance.

Dominick Skinner, a Netherlands-based immigration activist, estimates he and a group of volunteers have publicly identified at least 20 ICE officials recorded wearing masks during arrests. He told POLITICO his experts are “able to reveal a face using AI, if they have 35 percent or more of the face visible.”

... ICE says its agents need to wear masks to prevent being unfairly harassed for doing their jobs.

These jackboots are happily sending people to El Salvadoran torture prisons. So what if they're called bad names?

To their critics, agents in masks have become a potent symbol of unaccountable government force....

Skinner’s AI-powered unmasking project is part of a broader online campaign, the ICE List, that has published the names of more than 100 ICE employees, from field agents to back-office bureaucrats. It’s one of several anti-ICE campaigns that have drawn attention from the media and Homeland Security officials.

ICE did not comment on the accuracy of Skinner’s purported identifications, but in a statement, ICE spokesperson Tanya Roman said that the masks “are for safety, not secrecy” and that these listings threaten officers’ lives.

ICE agents have died in the line of duty, but Roman can't name a single one who died because they were no longer 'secret police'.
