Mass Shootings

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Thx, I did see it.
De nada. Jon Stewart always has flair, but I don't remember a rant so passionate. Maybe the ones supporting the 9/11 first responders.
His most passionate one that I saw was when he smashed a ceramic coffee cup on the desk and cut the shit out of his hand. I don't even remember now what he was upset about when he broke the mug.

Jon Stewart slices open his hand on The Daily Show: 'I'll be going to the hospital'
The TV host smashed a coffee mug in an impassioned speech about pharmaceutical industry subsidies.

Jon Stewart's appearance on Monday night's episode of The Daily Show left him bloodied after he smashed a coffee mug while ranting about the high price of prescription drugs.

See the moment he cuts his hand on a shattered mug at about 16:58 in the video below.

Jon Stewart Takes on DOGE's Misguided Budget Cuts | The Daily Show

... "Ooh, can it be? The companies we subsidize with billions of dollars are allowing us the privilege of negotiating the price of 10 of their drugs," Stewart said sarcastically. "And 10 is all of them, right? It would be embarrassing if it was a small drop in the bucket and that the American people didn't expect that we should negotiate for all their f---ing drugs! Because we've already paid for 'em with our subsidies!"

He slammed his coffee mug down and the audience seemed to pick up on the fact something had gone wrong, but they cheered. Stewart then looked down at his hand to inspect it, smiled, and jovially said, "I'll be going to the hospital soon."

Stewart continued with his report after the slam, holding his injured right hand below the desk, and acted as if nothing had happened. But when he pulled his hand up into view later — about 21:32 in the video — the audience gasped at the blood. Stewart made light of the injury on social media, calling the episode a "bloody good episode" and himself "an idiot." ...
Wish I had him for a patient. Because of who he is, but also because I liked folks that could make fun of their injury.

 Thanks, hominy. I'd forgotten what he had been ranting about. And it wasn't that long ago that i watched it. I remember what my phone number was when I was six years old but don't remember more recent stuff. I don't know what it all means. I forgot. I also know my former wife's and my daughter's social security numbers just from writing them on tax forms for many years. I should be part of some long term study.
Preferably one that pays.

Aside: 300+ LEOs from multiple agencies responded to assist in the manhunt. I'm kinda stunned that so many can be gathered in Coeur d’Alene on short notice.

Yeah, Kootenai County has 71 "patrol" deputies and a total of 300ish who work at least part time. Spokane County has about 300 deputies, plus whatever the city police in Spokane and Spokane Valley has, plus whatever the city of Coeur d'Alene has. But it looks like it was all hands on deck.

I guess breaking it down like that it makes sense, even accounting for maintaining some regular patrol. There's also other counties and small towns, USFS cops, fish and game, FBI, Marshals, CBP, Fairchild AFB near Spokane, maybe other feds like ATF, DEA and ICE, etc.

Kinda demonstrates what a joke the RW wet dreams of armed rebellion have always been.

Fort Stewart in Georgia :problem: :(
Jim Acosta Defends AI Interview of Parkland Shooting Victim

... “His son would be 25 today,” Acosta wrote in the caption accompanying the video, referring to Joaquin’s birthday of August 4.

“If the problem you have is with the AI, then you have the wrong problem,” Manuel Oliver said in the video. In recent years, Oliver has become an outspoken advocate for gun reform and founded the organization Change the Ref.

“The real problem is that my son was shot 8 years ago.”

Acosta defended his choice to do the AI interview to The Independent and reiterated that Joaquin’s family reached out to him to arrange it.

“My heart goes out to them and I was honored to help them in this moment.”

Several thoughts on the (now failed) attempt to free the Menendez bros who blasted away the faces of their parents with a shotgun just before heading out for a movie.

They were sentenced to life without parole, a not uncommon sentence for the crime they were convicted of.

They became eligible for parole because of a change in CA law that created exceptions to the "without parole" part of a sentence.

Not very many prisoners have benefitted from those exceptions, but the Menendez' got hearings at least in part because of their fame, a creative story of rehabilitation and good lawyering.

They shouldn't be denied anything to which they are entitled just because they're famous, but they shouldn't get anything extra either.

I don't know about the parole board, but I don't believe much about their "self defence" claims anyway.

California has a pretty miserable record on prisons and parole, despite repugs claims that the state is turning out evil thugs by the thousands, and not many prisoners have the opportunities the Menendez bros have. Review of the law and status here:
https://www.prisonpolicy.org/blog/2023/ ... ia-parole/

If paroles are to be given for cold-blooded killers, there's probably quite a few that could be in line before these guys.

Turns out they weren't the prison choir boys they had been painted.

Maybe we got more coverage here than elsewhere because it's a California case and they've been locked up close to SD, but hopefully their faces will be off the news for at least 3 years or more.

At least 2 children killed and 17 people injured in shooting at Minneapolis Catholic school Mass

Children ages 6 to 14 are being treated for injuries at a Minneapolis-area health care system, with at least two in critical condition.
At least fourteen of those injured are children.

:o Why?

We may never know. The shooter is dead, self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Why is there never talk about the Well Regulated part of the Second Amendment as opposed to the Not be Infringed part?

"Peace, Love, Unity and Guns"

Was taken down by YT, not sure how long it will last on X.

Quite the arsenal. :ateeth:

I could not make out much of the deranged mumbling. All sorts of crap written on the guns in whiteout (?). Some racism and antisemitism, but those weren't dominant themes. I saw "Release the List" and "Kill Donald Trump", but again not a dominant theme. Lots of childish obscenities. She was 23.
