Rural South Dakota farming communities choose seppuku as a show of fealty and unwavering devotion to Donald Trump.

Don't anybody mock them. Soybean farmers are our glorious kamikaze pilots in this trade war with China. They "volunteered" when they cast their ballots for DonOLD. I thank them for their service.

Goddamn it just keeps coming

NC soybeans caught in the tariff crossfire

https://www.carolinajournal.com/nc-soyb ... crossfire/
As the No. 1 buyer of US soybeans, China’s cuts dramatically impacted the agricultural industry of North Carolina. China accounts for 48% of US soybean exports. In 2022, North Carolina exported $446 million in soybeans, according to the Office of the US Trade Representative

...

“(…) due to ongoing tariff retaliation, our longstanding customers in China have and will continue to turn to our competitors in South America to meet their demand, a demand Brazil can meet due to significantly increased production since the previous trade war with China,” wrote the American Soybean Association (ASA), in an Aug. 19 letter to Trump.

“Unfortunately for our soybean growers, China has contracted with Brazil to meet future months’ needs to avoid purchasing any soybeans from the United States,” the letter continued. “U.S. soybeans currently face a duty 20% higher than soybeans from South America due to Chinese retaliatory tariffs. That puts our farmers at an untimely competitive disadvantage. China has not purchased any U.S. soybeans for the months ahead as we quickly approach harvest. The further into the autumn we get without reaching an agreement with China on soybeans, the worse the impacts will be on U.S. soybean farmers.”

...

US soybean farmers lost market share to Brazil because of the 2018 trade war with China,” continued Hall. “That was unfortunate, as Brazil was able to expand soybean production onto virgin land, while we conserve our existing farmland. Brazil has retained a competitive advantage in China
Is this the art of the deal? Yeah, you guys aren't recovering from this.

I get that sometimes the gears of world trade may complicate things a bit, but fuck its pretty clear why they're suffering. The same exact thing had already happened. What did they think?

Another granny assaulted by Dementia Don:
Irish grandmother and green card holder held by ICE over $25 bad check

Image

An Irish grandmother of five, who is married to an American citizen and who has lived in the U.S. on a green card for 47 years, is facing deportation.

Donna Hughes-Brown, 58, was arrested by ICE over a bad check for $25 she passed a decade ago, according to her husband. Born in England the grandmother holds Irish citizenship and first came to the U.S. with her parents and brother aged 11.

She visited the Republic of Ireland earlier this summer for a family funeral, only to be arrested when she returned to Chicago O’Hare International Airport on July 29.

She has since been detained for more than 30 days and held at a facility in Campbell County, Kentucky, with the U.S. government threatening to deport her over the check, which it argues was a “crime of moral turpitude,” despite her family saying she paid the money back long ago.

... im Brown – Donna’s husband of eight years, with whom she lives on a nine-acre farm in Troy, Missouri, and with whom she organizes charitable “blessing boxes” for struggling members of the local community – told Fox News’s Nevada affiliate KMOV of his anguish at his wife’s plight.

“It’s just not fair that you’re telling me I have to be a bachelor the rest of my life because of some stupid policy,” Brown said. “You don’t arrest 58-year-old grandmothers. It’s just wrong. She hasn’t committed crimes. You just don’t do that.”

Brown, a U.S. Navy veteran of 20 years’ service, has admitted to Newsweek that he voted for Donald Trump in last year’s presidential election but has quickly come to regret it “100 percent”.

“It’s egregious that we have allowed a government to allow this to happen,” he told KMOV, dismissing the case being made against his wife as “nonsense” and rubbishing the idea that she represents a flight risk. “I think it’s a blanket thing to catch everybody, to fill beds… They signed a stupid bill that is torturing innocent people, and that’s the problem.”

Brown added that he spends hours on the phone every day trying to reach his partner, protesting about the “deplorable” conditions in which she is being held and appealing for help from his state’s elected officials, so far to no avail.

The office of Missouri’s Republican Gov. Mike Kehoe sent him a letter advising him that his wife’s case was a “federal issue” only, he said.

“I want somebody to have the guts and the fortitude to stand up and say, ‘You know what? This is wrong’,” Brown said. “It’s crazy that this is happening. It’s just crazy that this is even allowed in this country. That’s the problem. It shouldn’t even be thought that this should be OK. My wife is not a criminal.”
:(
... A GoFundMe campaign has been set up by friends and family to crowdfund Hughes-Brown’s legal defense, which, at the time of writing, had achieved 86 percent of its modest $6,500 goal.
Now up to $8,013 raised from 155 donations.

Surprise victim: DonOLD 1/20/2025
Trump Appears To Violate Own Executive Order With Kimmel Suspension

Trump signed Executive Order 14149, titled “Restoring Freedom of Speech and Ending Federal Censorship,” on the day of his second inauguration.

According to the order, “The First Amendment to the United States Constitution, an amendment essential to the success of our Republic, enshrines the right of the American people to speak freely in the public square without Government interference.”

Trouble is, the Trump administration has vowed to retaliate against anyone who speaks out in a way that displeases the president, even late-night comedians like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.

... “Frankly, when you see stuff like this, I mean, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way,” (Federal Communications Chair Brendan) Carr said. “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

Kimmel’s suspension came even after Rolling Stone reported that “several execs believe that Kimmel said nothing over the line.”

Colbert’s show was canceled in July after he called a settlement his network’s parent company reached with Donald Trump, “a big, fat bribe.”

After Colbert and Kimmel were ousted, Trump celebrated each time.

Some everyday Americans are also receiving pressure from the Trump administration, albeit indirectly. According to The Washington Post:
Vice President JD Vance urged supporters to drum those “celebrating Charlie’s murder” out of their jobs and said the administration may strip tax-free status from two prominent foundations he accused of underwriting a “disgusting article” about Kirk. The State Department embarked on a global effort to identify foreign citizens “praising, rationalizing, or making light of” Kirk’s death and put them on a list to prevent them from ever receiving U.S. visas. Attorney General Pam Bondi vowed a sweeping crackdown on “hate speech.”
And yet, Trump’s executive order accused the Biden administration of trampling “free speech rights by censoring Americans’ speech on online platforms, often by exerting substantial coercive pressure on third parties, such as social media companies, to moderate, deplatform, or otherwise suppress speech that the Federal Government did not approve.”

The executive order also stated, “Government censorship of speech is intolerable in a free society.”

American Soybean Association Responds to Argentina Soybean Actions

https://soygrowers.com/news-releases/as ... n-actions/
This week, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the U.S. government was in negotiations to extend a $20 billion swap line to the Argentine government and potentially purchase the country’s foreign bonds. Almost immediately after, a reported 20 shiploads of Argentine soybeans were purchased by China after the Argentine government announced it would waive taxes on its soybean exports.

Upon this news, ASA President Caleb Ragland issued the following statement:

“U.S. soybean farmers have been clear for months: the administration needs to secure a trade deal with China. China is the world’s largest soybean customer and typically our top export market. The U.S. has made zero sales to China in this new crop marketing year due to 20% retaliatory tariffs imposed by China in response to U.S. tariffs. This has allowed other exporters, Brazil and now Argentina, to capture our market at the direct expense of U.S. farmers. The frustration is overwhelming. U.S. soybean prices are falling, harvest is underway, and farmers read headlines not about securing a trade agreement with China, but that the U.S. government is extending $20 billion in economic support to Argentina while that country drops its soybean export taxes to sell 20 shiploads of Argentine soybeans to China in just two days.

U.S. farmers cannot wait and hope any longer. ASA is calling on President Trump and his negotiating team to prioritize securing an immediate deal on soybeans with China. The farm economy is suffering while our competitors supplant the United States in the biggest soybean import market in the world.”
A large percentage of farmers voted for Trump. In my hometown, where there's a large number of soybean farmers, support is was overwhelmingly for Donald Trump, despite his first administration's policies causing harm to their livelihoods.

How can you be so stupid? That market is not coming back.

But always – do not forget this, Winston – always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. Ex-MAHA Moms Say They ‘Feel Guilty’ They Ever Backed RFK Jr.

Anti-vaccine moms are rethinking what Robert F. Kennedy Jr. preaches.

“He [RFK Jr] was a big part of why I even became anti-vax,” Heather Simpson, mother to an eight-year-old daughter, told Raw Story.

... Simpson went down the anti-vaccine “rabbit hole” and became an “anti-vax influencer,” even dressing up as a measles virus for Halloween.

... Dr. Leslie Treece of Cookeville Pediatric Associates in Tennessee told Raw Story that she has seen an increase in parents refusing to vaccinate their children due to misinformation. Still, she expects a “big pendulum swing” back to vaccines as outbreaks rise.

... “I was just like, ‘Well, dang, what if I’m wrong about everything?’” Simpson said. She later co-founded the group and podcast Back to the Vax with Lydia Greene, fellow mother and former anti-vaxxer....
Question often heard just as a leopard is leaping toward the speaker's face.
