I think military people have always resented the "suits" and "brass" that are so far removed from the realities of their lives and frequently come up with stuff that just makes no sense. Conversely, the rank and file "backbone" of the military doesn't necessarily have a grip on the biggest picture. So maybe Hegseth realizes this - and decides the best way to get everybody on the same page is to insult, belittle, focus on the inconsequential, yell, and put on a lot of theatrics.

Pizzagate Flynn didn't show his goddamn lunacy until after he left the service. That probably gave them the excuse they needed to remain silent even though his actions still besmirched the Army.

News organizations including The New York Times, The Associated Press and the conservative Newsmax television network said Monday they will not sign a Defense Department document about its new press rules, making it likely the Trump administration will evict their reporters from the Pentagon.

Those outlets say the policy threatens to punish them for routine news gathering protected by the First Amendment. The Washington Post, The Atlantic and Reuters on Monday also publicly joined the group that says it will not be signing. AP confirmed Monday afternoon that it would not sign....

Under the laws of war, you never attack anyone who is hors de combat: shipwrecked, wounded, defenseless, or already in your power. Those two men clinging to the wreckage were exactly that.

Ordering their death anyway crosses an even brighter line: the ban on no quarter - the absolute rule that you do not kill people who cannot fight back. Every commander knows this. Every officer is trained on it. These aren’t obscure legal theories. They’re the bedrock of lawful command.

Yet the Secretary of Defense still gave the order: “kill everybody” - after the first strike, after operators saw survivors in the water, after it was clear they posed no threat. A second missile was launched just to finish the job. Hegseth didn’t make a tough call. He made an unlawful one.

Drugs or no drugs, is it internationally legal to shoot a boat out in international waters? Maybe within your own boundaries to just shoot and sink it without any attempt to capture doesn't seem right. What would a rational US President say about a US boat getting sunk by Venezuela in international waters?

And if it is legal, somebody needs to look at those laws.
