Super Bowl Halftime Shows

Unread post by Jasmine »

If you were in charge of selecting the next Super Bowl halftime performer, who would you choose?

If Axl Rose’s voice wasn’t so shot, I’d want Guns ‘N’ Roses. They would perform (in order):
- Sweet Child O Mine
- November Rain
- Paradise City

So my next choice would be AC/DC, and they would perform (in order):
- Back in Black
- You Shook Me All Night Long
- Highway to Hell

Since next year’s game will be in San Francisco, another good choice would be Journey:
- Lights
- Open Arms
- Don’t Stop Believin’

If not rock ‘n’ roll, I’d invite an all-star group of top blues performers to sing famous blues songs. Like this awesome tribute:

Jasmine's list is theoretically a good one - certainly it could be a good show, but the problem is most of those bands are missing some people and for that music we might be better off with tribute bands.

I'd try to pick somebody with wide appeal, who has a high-energy show, and music familiar to the majority of people. Springsteen would have been a great choice 10 years ago or so. If she doesn't fade, Chappell Roan would be good in a few years. Can you see the whole stadium doing the HOTTOGO?

Except that more people with more money watch in bars and at parties than do in nursing homes. :o :P ;)

February 1, 2009, Tampa - You could have made a day trip out of it.

I'm not thrilled about it but I think we have to accept that some of the shows will be hip-hop if the NFL wants to stay relevant.

OK, in that case I'll take Pitbull, Bruno Mars, and Weeknd.

OK, in that case I'll take Pitbull Hip-Hop, later some pop, Bruno Mars February 2, 2014, February 7, 2016-featured, Pop, R&B, and Weeknd February 7, 2021, Pop, R&B.

They're all male POCs, but only Pitbull is a true rapper. He would be a good future choice.

TIL, February 1, 2004:
P. Diddy co-star. 3 songs, including "Bad Boy for Life" and "Mo Money Mo Problems". :o Opps
Kid Rock :puke-left: and Jessica Simpson  shared the stage.
This was the infamous Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake "wardrobe malfunction" year.

"Why People Are Angry When Black Culture Takes Center Stage"

Good article, but I don't know that I'd agree that Kendrick-from-Compton gangsta chic should be used to represent the total of "Black culture." More like a subset of Black culture, such as Redneck is a subset of white culture.

I'm a little embarrassed when a Redneck takes center stage.

...It’s become the most-watched U.S. broadcast since the moon landing in 1969. This surpasses viewership for Michael Jackson, the King of Pop’s half-time performance in 1993....
Why we'll see more rap.

Will he forever be 'Uncle Samuel L. Jackson'?

Linked from your article:

The Death of Critical Thinking is Why You Didn't Enjoy the Halftime Show
Most people missed the depth of the performance

I liked the dancing and had no problem with the content or its depth, explicit or implied, and I'm fine with challenging messages. In just don't like rap. I grew up with a record cabinet full of folk and Black spirituals, then immersed myself in R&B and rock. Hip-hop just isn't my brand of bubble gum.
People were mostly upset because they weren’t properly entertained.
Well, I do want the medium to be entertaining. I don't like most speeches, either, no matter how left the speaker is. I wouldn't say I was "upset", though. I accept that my tastes differ from a hugely popular genre. After 30+ years I'm used to it.
I could’ve done without the Drake part of the show,
Ditto, I couldn't care less about their protracted squabble. It's been going on for 12 years, sheesh.
but the reason most people missed out on the bigger meaning of halftime is what ails us on most issues.

We no longer take time to critically think; to dive deeper on issues rather than hurling insults or knee-jerk responses.

We just want to be entertained....
So, what's wrong with that? I have no problem with the other issues raised.

MAGA detests the 1A. Friendly Fire Barbie Gnome's "non" ;) ;) cuckolder weighs in with a vain attempt to lower ticket prices for Whites:
Corey Lewandowski Drops Menacing ICE Threat Over Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Show
The Department of Homeland Security adviser also joined in with MAGA outrage over the Puerto Rican superstar’s halftime gig.

Department of Homeland Security adviser Corey Lewandowski on Wednesday fumed over Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny’s headlining of the upcoming Super Bowl LX halftime show.

The longtime Donald Trump stooge also vowed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will attend the NFL’s flagship game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Feb. 8, 2026, as part of the Trump administration’s ongoing crackdown on undocumented immigrants....

“There is nowhere that you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else,” Lewandowski told right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson.

“We will find you,” the onetime Trump campaign manager continued. “We will apprehend you. We will put you in a detention facility, and we will deport you. So know that that is a very real situation under this administration, which is completely contrary to how it used to be.” ...
Someone should let Johnson the Dick and Friendly Fire Barbie Gnome's "non" ;) ;) cuckolder know that Puerto Ricans ARE Americans and they're going to sue for racial and ethnic harassment at the game.

Kaaron's ex being a Karen:
NASCAR Driver Danica Patrick Insists Bad Bunny 'Shouldn't Be Allowed' To Perform At Super Bowl
The former race car driver is the latest MAGA supporter to voice displeasure over the NFL's halftime pick.
Benny Johnson (conservative commentator)

This is Bad Bunny.

He was just announced as the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.

- Massive Trump hater
- Anti-ICE activist
- No songs in English

He even canceled his entire U.S. tour for this reason: “F***ing ICE could be outside my concert. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”

The NFL is self-destructing year after year.

Danica Patrick

Oh fun. 🙄
No songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest rated television events of the year… not just for sports.
Reports are that Kaaron's ex is going after 1st graders learning Frère Jacques next.
What are you gonna do about it? Threaten to drive nascar again?

You know America has no official language, right?

You know 41 million Americans speak Spanish, right?

You know there's a feature included in all TV broadcasts called "subtitles," RIGHT?

Says the NASCAR DEI poster child.

Great minds . . .
You do know he’s American right?
Of course you would take a stance like this. You clearly don’t understand how popular he is across the country and the world. Sorry we don’t have creed performing for you…the NFL went with an artist the country loves.
Creed is 30 year OLD Christian rock. I never got into them.
Y'all was mad at rap, now you’re mad at Spanish pop music. At this point just say you want it white and white only 🤣
MAGA Is Freaking Out About Bad Bunny Performing At The Super Bowl — And Their Explanation Is WTF
The Puerto Rican superstar’s halftime show will likely be much more than just a celebration of Latin trap and reggaeton.

(lots of RW whining, but there's an alternative view)

Meanwhile, the Trumps have been busted and banned for ripping off charities, including a veterans' charity.

Great promo and thanks, Gavin. The game will be played in Santa Clara, CA.
this performance is abt to be the loudest middle finger to ICE and their little admin buddies

:violin:
using the biggest stage on us television to send a message about this administration and ice is iconic to me let him cook
It’s going to be super political… I'M HERE FOR IT GO AHEAD HERMANO
Finally:

Puerto Ricans Tell Us — In Spanish — How Excited They Are For Bad Bunny At The Super Bowl
Bad Bunny is making a statement that is as unapologetic as it is historic — and we love to see it.

Subject: Super Bowl Halftime Show

I think Bad Bunny is an excellent choice and I'm looking forward to watching. Don't let the racist rightwing outrage get you down. It will only increase viewership with people who want to see what the fuss is all about.

Thank you,

She says the stupidest things:
Tomi Lahren Ridiculed In Own Comment Section After Calling Puerto Rican Bad Bunny 'Not American'
“Tomi, I’m not going to sugarcoat this. You got humiliated,” one comment read.

... Lahren invited “Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar” host Krystal Ball on her show to debate recent news events, including the announcement that Bad Bunny would be performing at the Super Bowl 2026 halftime show.

... Towards the end of her show, Lahren asked Ball if she believes Bad Bunny is a “good choice for the Super Bowl.”

Ball confessed she’s not “that knowledgeable” about Bad Bunny, but said he “seems like a great American artist, so sure.”

“He’s not an American artist, but—” Lahren said.

“He’s Puerto Rican,” Ball reminded the conservative host. “That’s part of America, dear.”

Bad Bunny would also not be the only Super Bowl halftime performer not born in a U.S. state. Rihanna, who performed in 2023, was born in Barbados; The Weeknd, who performed in 2021, is Canadian; and 2020 headliner Shakira is from Colombia.

The full debate, which was posted on Lahren’s YouTube channel, received thousands of comments, with those at the top slamming the right-wing podcaster.

“Tomi didn’t know Puerto Rico is part of the USA! You can’t make this up hahahaha,” one comment top comment with over 2,000 likes read.

“This feels like a 7th grader debating their teacher,” said another.

“Crazy how this is Tomi’s channel and her own comments section seems to unanimously agree that she lost the debate,” another top comment read....

Lahren did not argue after her guest noted Bad Bunny is an American, but moved on to slam the artist’s critique of ICE. However, Ball countered that “America agrees with him on that.”

“I mean, a majority of Americans think ICE has gone too far,” Ball said. “They’ve watched videos of, like, 79-year old-business owners being slammed to the ground and their ribs broken by ICE. So I think the American people are probably on board with that message at this point, Tomi.”

A number of polls conducted over the summer suggested that Trump’s immigration policies are incredibly unpopular amongst adult U.S citizens.
:---P :---P :---P
Despite the data, Lahren denied Ball’s assertion, telling her, “Well, whoever you’re talking to, I’m sure is, I’m not so sure the rest of the country is.”

I wonder how many criminally convicted undocumented people ICE Barbie thinks are going to have Super Bowl tickets? And does she really think they're going to let her thugs in free just to roam around trying to intimidate the people who paid thousands for their tickets? Or maybe she thinks thousands of undocumented people will gather around the outside of the stadium to "incite violence?"

Would they be so upset if the Super Bowl had booked a Cajun band singing in French?

Gonna be interesting if the Santa Clara Stadium Authority refuses ICE access to the parking lots and walkways, and the City of Santa Clara refuses access to the Santa Clara–Great America train station. ICE, not the attendees, disturbs the peace, after all.

As listed above several performers have already sung in Spanish, and even more were really born outside the US. So, why is MAGA having a collective cow over Bad Bunny? He violated the 11th Commandment - Thou shalt not criticize Cult leader DonOLD.

That's not the question at all. No law enforcement agency from Yeehaw Junction's Barney to federal Marshals, and yes, including DEA and ICE, is totally unrestrained in how they enforce the law, even if ICE does pretend that no laws pertain to them. Absent a warrant and a specific mission, ICE can't just insist on being let into the stadium to get a free view of the game just because they say "we're ICE and we're here to help you."
