C'mon, man - people you hang out with or relate to get all bent out of shape because some town takes down a tacky statue in the town square. Why wouldn't people be angry at the needless destruction of a national monument?
But yeah gotta keep it in perspective. Compared to the rest of the destruction, I guess it's lesser importance.

Great minds . . . I thought of the same comparison. One big difference is that each slaver/traitor statue has been moved after months of deliberation, public hearings and decision making by a city council, historic commission or some other collective body, not by a mayor or other individual exerting autocratic power.
