Well it's good to know that they've caught and deported all the violent criminals, drug smugglers, human traffickers, and can now move on down to old ladies. That's the equivalent of treating a parking lot bumper tap like negligent homicide.

Don Lemon was left humiliated during a cringeworthy street interview after he incorrectly claimed it is not a crime to cross the border illegally.

The former CNN host was given a lesson in the law by a legal Mexican migrant in Chicago who he stopped to interview about the immigration crisis.

During the discussion, the woman rhetorically asked Lemon whether it was illegal to come to the US without proper documentation.

Lemon fired back that it wasn't a criminal act to illegally cross the border, but a misdemeanor crime.

'Ok, so why are they being sent back and saying that they're breaking the law?' the woman retorted.

'That's the point!' Lemon replied before incorrectly insisting that a misdemeanor is not a crime.

At that point, a second individual interrupted the street interview to ask Lemon whether speeding or drink driving, other misdemeanor offenses, would also be deemed a crime.

'We have different levels of crime,' Lemon argued. 'Everything is not the same.'

'So it is a crime,' the woman responded.

Lemon said: 'It's not a crime, you're not breaking the law – I mean, you are breaking the law, but it's not a criminal act.'

Current US immigration law states that anyone, no matter how they got here, can apply for asylum in the US. So, if the modifier "no matter how they got here" means anything it would mean that entering the country "illegally" cannot be done. Where the crime comes in is when someone DOES NOT apply for asylum once they get here. And by that same reasoning, anyone who HAS applied for asylum after entering the country (no matter how they got here) has not committed a crime. It makes no difference whether you walk across the border at the San Diego port of entry and apply for asylum or if you crawl across the Arizona desert and apply for asylum. This law was in the process of being changed just beffore the election in 24 but trump told the GQP cult members in Congress not to change it.

The bipartisan immigration reform bill was very right leaning legislation. The immigration rights folks hated it. That's how in thrall the GQP is to the Cult Leader - They killed a con bill to benefit America-hating Dementia Don. Now, he's tried to do the same things by EO - which cons used to hate - and much of it has been or will be struck down because it's not law like it would have been. No one accuses MAGA of being smart, no one.

Yeah, that's what I said. If you enter the country and apply for asylum, you've not committed a crime. The current administration has deported persons who have applied and are in the system. Hell, they've even gone to court hearings and seized people who appear for their immigration hearings. And that Abrego Garcia guy had a court ordered non deportation action but was deported anyway. Why do you not know all this?

Broadview is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States, 12 miles (19 km) west of downtown Chicago. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 7,998.

Broadview is the site of a Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) processing facility at the center of Operation Midway Blitz.

Oh the irony. He's worried about his kids.
This was an off-duty ICE agent that was reportedly driving very recklessly. He was allegedly under the influence and had 2 children in the vehicle. He seemed to not have any idea where he was. He failed the field sobriety test and was charged with DUI. He was very unhappy about being arrested, didn't handle it very well at all.

More irony, the consequences of "pro-life" government:
Pregnant women describe miscarrying and bleeding out while in ICE custody, advocates say
The ACLU and other groups are pressing for ICE to identify and release all pregnant women in custody and to stop detaining anyone known to be pregnant, postpartum or nursing.

Women told advocates and their attorneys they suffered mistreatment and neglect while they were pregnant and held in immigration custody, including “medical neglect,” substandard care during pregnancy and miscarriage, being shackled, being placed in solitary confinement and being given poor-quality food, according to a letter sent to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials and Senate committees Wednesday.

“The stories that are represented in this letter are just the tip of the iceberg,” said the author of the letter, Eunice Cho, senior counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union’s National Prison Project. “You have women who are talking about being shackled and restrained while they’re actively miscarrying; you have women begging and pleading for things as basic as prenatal vitamins and being denied.” ...

:( I miss the good old days.

ICE deported an Alabama man who claims US citizenship. DHS says it wasn’t a mistake and don’t want him back
A federal judge had blocked ICE from deporting Chanthila Souvannarath, warning ‘inherent and obvious harm’ in deporting a citizen

... Chanthila Souvannarath, 44, was born in a Thai refugee camp but has lived in the United States since he was an infant. He gained citizenship as a child when his father was naturalized, making him eligible for derivative citizenship under immigration law at the time, according to his attorneys.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested Souvannarath on June 18 in Alabama, where he had been living, and moved him to a newly launched detention facility inside Louisiana State Penitentiary, the notorious state prison known as Angola.

On October 23, a federal judge blocked ICE from deporting him while he challenged his arrest and detention, but he was put on a plane for Laos the next day.
Rapidly expelling questionable cases is :bs: .
“This should shock the nation,” said Nora Ahmed, legal director of the ACLU of Louisiana, which is representing Souvannarath in court. “The deportation of an individual with a substantial claim to U.S. citizenship represents a catastrophic failure of the immigration system and a flagrant violation of constitutional rights.”

His legal team is now “exploring all legal options” for his return, according to attorneys with the ACLU, the National Immigration Project and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.

The restraining order blocking ICE from deporting him was not served to the agency until after he was already on a plane for Laos, according to Homeland Security assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

... In her order blocking his removal, Louisiana District Judge Shelly Dick said his “substantial” claim of citizenship means he “cannot be deported or held in immigration detention.”

“He lays out the legal framework for his derivation of citizenship through his naturalized father and demonstrates how each prong of the requirements was met,” she wrote. “This presents serious questions regarding the legality of his detention and imminent deportation.”

The judge noted the “inherent and obvious harm in deporting a U.S. citizen.”

His removal “raises urgent questions about just how many other people, potentially including other U.S. citizens, have been wrongfully deported because our immigration system does not require legal representation of individuals placed behind bars at jails masquerading as ‘immigration detention centers,’” according to the ACLU’s Nora Ahmed....
