The Religion Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Shocking. 🙄
Former Asheville Christian Academy coach pleads guilty after accused sex act with student

A former Asheville Christian Academy coach has pleaded guilty to sexual battery, according to a Dec. 15 court document.

As News 13 previously reported, Samuel Jason Ingle was arrested for "unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously" engaging in a sex act with a teenage student at the school on Feb. 1, 2024, according to an arrest warrant.

Ingle has since been sentenced to a minimum of 60 days of confinement and up to 18 months of probation, according to the December 2025 court document.
Slap on the wrist?

A one-time offense by a single bad apple? Hardly.
... After Ingle's arrest, a civil lawsuit was filed against Asheville Christian Academy and a list of defendants, including the former head of school, the "director of social, emotional and spiritual care," the former associate head of school/head of Upper School, an Upper School teacher, and Ingle.

The lawsuit claims that employees neglected to report and intervene with the sexual abuse taking place over several months and during trips organized by the school.

The lawsuit alleges that staff "unconscionably allowed this egregious and outrageous conduct to continue without taking any steps to report, intervene, investigate, discipline, pursue criminal charges, stop the grooming, abuse and exploitation, or take any other steps" to protect the plaintiff.

Pentagon threatens the Pope

https://newrepublic.com/post/208820/pen ... nald-trump
Days after Pope Leo XIV delivered his State of the World speech, Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby summoned Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the Vatican’s U.S. representative, to a closed-door Pentagon meeting for a bitter lecture.

“The United States,” Colby said, according to a blistering new report by The Free Press, “has the military power to do whatever it wants in the world. The Catholic Church had better take its side.”

One U.S. official present at the meeting brought up the Avignon papacy, a period in the 14th century in which the French monarchy bent the Catholic Church into submission, ordering an attack on Pope Boniface VIII that led to his downfall and subsequent death and forcing the papacy to relocate from Rome to Avignon, a region inside France.

...

But the blatant intimidation tactic is the first of its kind ever made by American officials to the Catholic Church. There are no public records of any previous meetings between Vatican and U.S. officials at the Pentagon, let alone an instance in which the world power suggested that it could force the Bishop of Rome into captivity.

The Vatican was so alarmed by the Pentagon’s warning that Pope Leo cancelled his plans to visit the U.S. later in the year, reported Hale, who noted that “many in the Vatican saw the Pentagon’s reference to an Avignon papacy as a threat to use military force against the Holy See.”
Holy shit.

Well, there was a faction of the Catholic church that supported the Nazis or assisted them in various ways. Colby (son of the Colby who came up with the Phoenix program in Vietnam) seems to be courting the Vatican for the new trump version of fascism. WINNING!

 It does. God don't know which of us to smite. Therefore, neither of us are smitten....with god or anything else. And, yeah, when I first read about Pentagon Pete saying the pope should "be careful" talking about theology, I immediately fell down on the floor in spasms of hysterical laughing and then decided that Pete needs to "be careful" when talking about US military offensive strikes just before they occur and boasting about them on a non secure messaging site. Then I fell down laughing again.

And that third US navy carrier heading over there would have been there earlier but it had to put in at Norfolk to offload Pete's monthly supply of liquor. Two other compartments were stuffed slap full of Christian religious gimcracks he likes to hand out and offer with a vise like handshake grip that leaves people walking away to the nearest trashcan nursing a bruised right hand. I've always thought it funny to watch trump reading something. It's evident that he struggles to read the printed words. He'll speak haltingly, mispronounce words or names, insert irrelevant comments at random intervals. The whole thing is damn funny.

Golden Trump statue is no idol for worship, pastor insists

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/gol ... 33429.html
A massive gilded statue of President Donald Trump installed at his Miami golf course is definitely not a "golden calf" to be worshipped, the pastor who led a dedication ceremony for the eyebrow-raising effigy insisted Friday.

Televangelist Mark Burns, an ally of the 79-year-old billionaire president who led the dedication ceremony, quickly sought to get ahead of any claims of idol worship -- which is expressly forbidden in the Ten Commandments.

"Let me say this plainly: this is not a golden calf," he said later that night on X, referring to the Old Testament idol that famously made Moses irate after he received the Commandments.

"This statue is not about worship. It is about honor," said Burns. "It is a celebration of life and a powerful
The fact that the pastor/grifter had to explicitly claim "no, we're not worshipping a false idol like it appears" means he knows it looks really, really, bad.
