The National Air Traffic Controllers Association did not immediately comment on Duffy’s remarks but has repeatedly urged controllers to keep working during the nine-day-old government shutdown. The union told workers that “participating in a job action could result in removal from federal service” and is illegal.
Can't really protest firings, but it will hurt ATC in the long run.
The U.S. has faced an air traffic controller staffing shortage for more than a decade and many have been working mandatory overtime and six-day weeks even before the shutdown. The FAA is about 3,500 air traffic controllers short of targeted staffing levels.
There have been more than 15,000 flight delays since Monday, with thousands tied to the FAA slowing flights because of air traffic controller absences.
“Historically, there’s about 5% of delays that is attributed to staffing issues in our towers. Last couple days it has been 53%,” Duffy said on Wednesday.
... Some 13,000 air traffic controllers and about 50,000 Transportation Security Administration officers must still turn up for work during the government shutdown, but they are not being paid.

Officials only realized the pair’s blunder when they looked deeper into their spending spree and realized that Spirit—which has filed for bankruptcy twice—didn’t own the planes in the first place, and that the engines would have to be purchased separately, according to the Journal.

Apparently ICE ICE Barbie took quite a beating in her Congressional committee appearance. Among the highlights: got asked how many veterans she's deported; she says none; they say Meet (via Zoom) this decorated veteran that you deported to Korea ... they ask again, she habitahabitahabita. They ask "are you lying or are you criminally ignorant about what goes on in your department?" (and added, "I don't know what would be worse." They said "your choices are getting fewer - either you're going to resign, Trump is going to fire you, or you're getting impeached." Then she says she has to leave to chair some meeting - that's been cancelled - and they catch her at it. She got called liar to her face and proved to be such with court-room quality evidence.

In an alternate reality, before making an official statement, government officials would try to quell anger, ask for calm, and call for a formal investigation in order to ascertain whether or not the agent's use of deadly force was justified. This admin appears giddy with the current events. They're not behaving as leaders for all Americans.
Yeah, any normal politician or bureaucrat knows that a lot of "harumph" and "fact finding task force" and Billy Flynn shuffle can go a long way. They're behaving like the strongarm of a dictator, which is what they are.
