2025 elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Damn, Ciaterelli got wrecked. Sherill Beat him by 13 points. The last election (2021), Murphy won by 3 points. Even a lot of red counties went for Sherill.

Prepare yourselves for the Twitter tantrums.

:happy-cheerleaderkid:
Democrats widen majority in Virginia state House to maintain legislative control

Virginia state Democrats have maintained control of the state House, widening their narrow majority and ensuring continued unified control of state government heading into the 2026 midterms.

Democrats, who held a 51-seat majority (out of 100) in Virginia’s state House, have secured at least 56 64! seats in Tuesday’s elections, according to the Associated Press as of 11:30 p.m. The results solidify Virginia’s status as a Democratic stronghold in the south and allow the party to press forward with two proposed constitutional amendments protecting abortion access and marriage equality.
Maybe they can send some missionaries to NC, TN and WV.
Those measures, which have previously been passed by lawmakers, must pass the legislature again next session before they can appear on the 2026 ballot. Democrats’ hold on power also gives them leverage over state spending, education funding, and climate initiatives, while Republicans face a reset after back-to-back defeats.

Prepare yourselves for the Twitter tantrums.
We know their game plan with NYC:

Elon Musk Endorses Andrew Cuomo With Problematic Zohran Mamdani Name Drop
The Tesla mogul thought it would be funny to make a dumb joke about the Democratic New York City mayoral candidate.

 Grow up, Elon.

Cuomo, 47 and who is the third? Hegseth, Gaetz, Cawthorn, Kavanaugh?
Fascist who pays women off for their silence endorses his own kind.
The 2025 New York mayoral race reveals a new wave of unfiltered Islamophobia.

Zohran Mamdani isn’t attacked for his policies, but for who he is.

Politicians, commentators and journalists accuse him of “Islamizing America,” hiding a religious project, even turning the country into a theocracy.

Some say he should be deported, as if a Muslim can never be truly American.

No debate about housing, safety or transit—only his faith, his name, his appearance, even his smile.

Every photo becomes an excuse for suspicion.

Anti-Muslim incidents have reached record levels.

This campaign proves that you can now gain political capital by portraying Muslims as enemies.

It’s no longer a slip-up.
It’s a strategy.
:---P
Childish, racist behavior

> a vote for Mumdumi or whatever his name is

You know exactly what his name is. Do better.
Thanks for the last-minute help to Mamdani’s campaign (that’s how you say his name btw)

Debra Messing slammed for sharing meme labeling Zohran Mamdani a 'jihadist' on election day
The "Will & Grace" actress shared the inflammatory image to Instagram as New Yorkers headed to the polls: "I think Zohran has actually broken her brain."

:obscene-birdiered:

Michael Moore Slams 'Racist And Disgusting Attacks' Against Zohran Mamdani: 'ENOUGH!'
The filmmaker excoriated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the media for "sickening" claims about New York City's mayoral front-runner.

Down ballot, too.

The Wildest Democratic Victories You May Not Have Heard About
Elections for school boards and public service commissions aren’t as sexy as a governor’s race, but they matter — and Democrats swept them everywhere.

School boards

Pennsylvania, Washington, Kansas, Idaho, Colorado and Texas. Backlash to Moms for Liberty and its ugly culture wars, especially anti-LGBTQ+ policies in schools. Albuquerque; Wichita; Nashua, N.H.; Douglas County, Colo.; Cy-Fair, Texas; and Bucks County, Penn.

State legislative races

Mississippi state Senate, as GoCubsGo posted about.
... In New Jersey, Democrats have picked up at least three new seats and may gain more as election officials process late-arriving mail ballots. Those three new seats mean Democrats will control at least 55 of the chamber’s 80 seats, and will have more than a two-thirds supermajority in the House for the first time since 2019....
Virginia, as I posted about.

County seats

"Democrats won county seats all over Pennsylvania."
Georgia’s Public Service Commission

Have you even heard of Georgia’s utility board?

It doesn’t matter ― all you need to know is two Democrats just trounced Republican incumbents in a statewide race in Georgia, marking the first time Democrats have won a statewide constitutional office here since 2006.

Democrats Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard defeated GOP incumbents by more than 20 points for seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission....
City Councils

South Carolina
Orlando, Florida
Charlotte, North Carolina

Americans are shocked to learn that NYC's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, used to be a Ugandan rapper. See for yourself
Before leading New York City, Zohran Mamdani was spitting bars in Kampala as rapper Young Cardamom—and his past is surprising everyone.

The duo’s bold visuals in “Kanda [Chap Chap]” reflected their mix of humor, culture, and social commentary.

Young, democratic socialist, Muslim, Ugandan, rapper - 5 disqualifying factors, 5!

The special election in Tennessee is next Tuesday (12/2), and Republicans are scared. MAGA super PACs are spending more than $3 million dollars in a district that voted for Trump by 22 points last year. They’re spending big because they know the tides are shifting. Americans are sick of Trump’s corruption, the handouts for billionaires, the attacks on our rights, and the out-of-control cost of living. And they’re not just upset -- they’re bringing that frustration to the ballot box.

We saw massive swings earlier this month in state and local elections in Virginia, New Jersey, Georgia, Mississippi, and California. Voters are rejecting Trump’s agenda up and down the ballot, and demanding new leaders who will fight for them. That’s exactly what Aftyn Behn is offering voters in TN-07, and we’re going all in to help her flip the district from red to blue.

Tennessee's 7th congressional district, west of Nashville "significant urban, suburban, and rural areas." Historically red.

Aftyn is a smart, clear-eyed, young leader who has worked tirelessly to make Tennessee a more affordable place where working families can thrive. She’s utilizing her experience as an organizer to run an incredible grassroots campaign that’s energizing voters across TN-07. But with a week to go until Election Day, and Republicans spending millions against her, Aftyn needs all of us to step up and help get out the vote:

1. Sign up for one of our upcoming phonebanks....
2. If you live in TN-07, sign up to knock doors using our Neighbor2Neighbor canvassing tool....
3. Can’t volunteer, but still want to help flip TN-07? Click here to split a donation between Aftyn’s campaign and Indivisible....

This is our only chance to flip a Republican House district this year, and a victory in a district as red as this one will send a clear message to the Trump regime that voters everywhere will turn out to reject his authoritarian agenda and kick out his enablers in Congress.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team

Republican voters are incredibly lazy. This race should not be close. Aftyn has said enough to create and embarrassing loss.

I hope she wins but this state needs quite a few more like her in order to make any changes. I'm in the 1st district; hell, my congresswoman and her husband were found guilty of Medicare/Medicaid fraud several years ago. I don't think she herself was charged but the husband was and he had to pay something close to a million dollars. At the time those crimes occurred, she and the husband owned and ran their own drug compounding pharmacy. He was convicted for charging name brand prices for cheap Chinese generec drugs. Luckily, I'm only two miles from a Democrat led state.

One election won't change TN, but even if it's close it and the VA results could be a harbinger of big changes for the nation, not to mention Dementia Don's final breakdown.

Yeah, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope she wins. Hopefully, most folks in the "west of Nashville" area aren't as goddamn ignorant as the ones in WV and southwest VA that are now seeing the effects of voting against their own interests (re the link I posted yesterday about all the green energy projects trump cancelled in their district) but I suppose we'll see tomorrow.

I was going to post this in the 2026 elections thread but since I'm already in here, I'll post it here. A University of Alabama student had his districting map selected by the court to be the one to take effect for the elections next year in AL. But of course the state is appealing the judge's ruling.

Despite all the whoopdedoo about a closer race in Tennessee, I hope I'm wrong in predicting a big margin win by the repug. No offence, neoplacebo, but people in that gerrymandered district didn't get smarter or learn to read overnight. If Trump was satisfactory by 20-30 points in 24, they've already seen all his wets and don't care. They know he's corrupt, a constant liar, insulter of the military, women, the disabled, and that his policies and actions hurt them personally. And mostly don't care enough to not vote for him.

We're not just talking about MAGAts changing their stripes, but also about the independents who went with DonOLD last year due to discontent with the Dems. I'll go out on a limb and predict that the result will be closer to the 2 point poll margin than to Dementia Don's 22 point margin.

Yeah, that pretty much covers it. When I was growing up here, this place wasn't like it is now. Hell, Senator Baker was one of the ones who told Nixon to hang it up. No TN Senator would tell trump that; no matter what the babbling fool did.
