I like her too, but it's Texas ferpetesake. Don't the Dems have any white guys, or at least Hispanic? Black population is about 12%, with heavy concentrations in the large cities. Most of those would likely vote for a white or Hispanic guy anyway. I wouldn't want to kid myself to think that Texas has lost enough of its racism that being Blackish isn't going to cost a bunch of votes, especially in areas Dems want more inroads to.
If so, he should run in the primary and let the voters decide on different factors, including your perspective.

Texas has never elected a Black senator, and only one (Kay Baily Hutchison) woman, who was first elected as a Republican in 1993, when Democrat Ann Richardson was governor. I'd say Texas is no longer a world in which either of those could reasonably be expected to win. Despite all the seasonal optimism of Texas going Blue due to some Dems running fairly close, the truth is that Texas has gone from reliably Dem in 1993 to hard core Red now. And a majority of voting Texans aren't mad enough at Trump to vote for a Dem out of that anger. Generic white guy might (probably would) lose, too, but he wouldn't start with the other guy already ahead by a lap.

O Really is more than likely right, but the way DonOld is turning the tide and with a year to go to continue to alienate his base and further piss off everyone else, never say never.

And odds are, she will run a really good campaign.

I don't want to get ahead of my skies, but there are two additional senate seats from jd and Marco up for grabs. Total of 33 seats this cycle.

Could the Senate turn too?

Don't forget Texas. ;)

North Carolina IS going BLUE. Cooper is a lock. He has won statewide 6 times and Tillis has practically become a Dem.

From your lips . . .
James Talarico says the biggest ‘welfare queens’ in America are ‘the giant corporations that don’t pay a penny in income taxes’

Image

State Representative James Talarico, a Democrat from Texas and US Senate candidate, during a campaign event in Houston, Texas, US, on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025.

James Talarico, a 36-year-old former public school teacher and current Texas State Representative, is mounting a 2026 U.S. Senate campaign that challenges conventional wisdom about government spending and corporate responsibility. He represents a growing push to scrutinize corporate tax strategies and reframe the debate around who truly benefits from government support. His arguments about tax avoidance by Fortune 500 companies and wealthy executives are gaining traction among young voters and may influence future tax policy discussions if he gains higher office.

... “The biggest welfare queens in this country are the giant corporations that don’t pay a penny in federal taxes,” he said. He also extended his critique to include wealthy executives, adding “the biggest welfare queens are the CEOs who get a tax deduction for flying on a private jet.”
:happy-cheerleaderkid:
... “I was a public school teacher, so I saw how when kids showed up hungry, they couldn’t learn,” he told local ABC affiliate KSAT in October. “Even my brightest students, even my hardest working students couldn’t succeed. Couldn’t pull themselves up by their bootstraps when they didn’t have boots.”

To illustrate the point, he invoked a metaphor about teaching someone to fish: “If you’re gonna take your friend out on a boat for the day to teach him how to fish, you wanna make sure he had breakfast that morning. You wanna make sure he’s not sick, because that allows him to learn how to fish again,” he said.

... His Senate campaign messaging appears to hinge on this core idea: that fairness and personal responsibility should apply equally to billionaires and working people.

“We don’t want dependency. We want to reward hard work. And I think that should apply to those billionaires, not just working people,” he said during the recent taping.
:---P
You can watch the entire Surrounded episode featuring James Talarico below:

1 Texas Democrat vs 20 Undecided Voters | Surrounded
Looks like the progressive Dem votes will be divided in the primary. Will a con Dem jump in to spoil the results?

 From my lips . . . Scrolled down to the next article:
Opinion
Jasmine Crockett, James Talarico don’t have to tear Texas Democrats apart | Opinion

... But what if, instead of fighting, the two Democratic candidates rewrite the playbook by using the primary to incentivize a wide range of voters? Talarico speaks to disillusioned Christian Republicans and mainstream Democrats. Crockett brings an excitement that inspires disengaged activists. After listening to the people, the one with the most momentum should become the candidate.

I'd say the US is aptly described with a couple of Taylor Swift lines

"I have this thing where I get older, but just never wiser"
...
"It's me, hi
I'm the problem, it's me"

Latest polls still show Trump with mid-upper 30's approval. Nixon, who was in many ways a fairly decent president, was in low 20's at the end, and ironically the Watergate cover-up was what finally got him. Not the war, not the lying about the war, not the economy - just something that Trump and his lot do every day.

In case I haven't said it lately, we're doomed.

For example:

Trump says the US ‘shouldn’t even have an election’ in 2026 because of all his accomplishments
Trump expressed frustration that his party could lose the House or Senate in the upcoming midterms

There it is. Where are the RepuQ that still care about democracy?

Not to worry. There will be elections in 2026. The democrats will probably win the House. History prevails.

Leading GOP candidate for Minnesota governor ends his campaign over ICE shootings

A leading Republican candidate to become Minnesota’s next governor abruptly ended his campaign on Monday, denouncing what he described as the “federal retribution on the citizens of our state” amid the Trump administration’s hardline immigration enforcement efforts there.

The candidate, Minneapolis attorney Christopher Madel, dropped the news in an online video, saying he could not “support the … stated retribution on the citizens of our state, nor can I count myself a member of a party that would do so.”

... “United States citizens, particularly those of color, live in fear,” Madel continued, adding that “citizens are carrying papers to prove their citizenship. That’s wrong.”

Trump: "These people were brought to our country to vote, and they vote illegally. The Republicans should say, we should take over the voting in at least 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting. We have states that I won that show I didn't win. You're gonna see something in Georgia."

I don't think there's any legal mechanism to do this luckily. I know this shit fuck isn't one to really obey our laws and show deference to all that America holds sacred (or used to), but "nationalizing" elections is way outside of the bounds of anything he can do.

Only Congress (setting standards) and the states (constitutional amendment) can make changes to this. That's not to say he won't try fuckery though.

Also it's pretty wild that the stuff this boy shits out of his mouth has become so normalized that when, he, the president of the United States, wishes for things contrary to foundational American laws and governance we don't even bat an eye anymore. I stand firm in my belief that these people have no values and no principles. Nihilists?

Purple states with GQP majorities in their Legs can still do some shit one by one like some have been doing with redistricting. Their only principles are winning and greed.

MAGA's only choice is take extreme measures or bite the bullet and suffer big losses.
Texas loss delivers stark warning to Republicans in critical election year

... A special election for a state Senate seat on Saturday saw the Democratic candidate, union leader Taylor Rehmet, win by a 14-point margin. But that doesn't tell the full story.

Rehmet defeated a Trump-backed candidate in a district the president won by a 58-41 margin in 2024. It means the result represents a huge 31-point swing towards the Democrats from that presidential election.
:---P
... The president posted two messages in the final days encouraging his supporters to cast ballots for the Republican, conservative activist Leigh Wambsganss.

"The Radical Left Democrats are spending a fortune to beat a true MAGA warrior," Trump wrote, referring to his "Make America Great Again" movement.

It was Republicans, however, who poured considerable resources into the race, spending a combined $2.5m between the campaign and affiliated political committees, according to campaign filings. Rehmet reported raising just over $380,000, mostly in smaller donations.
Opps.
... According to research by the website Downballot, Democrats overperformed 2024 results by nearly 14 percent in special elections held in 2025....
Ouch.

He does not care about the Constitution.

Again, I believe he's going to try to instigate civil unrest so he will have an excuse to invoke the Insurrection Act.

He's pretty much telegraphing it. He's planting the outrageous seed now. It's part of the playbook he's used before.

As we get get closer to November and the polls look dismal......could be a miserable summer.
