Rubio stages font coup: Times New Roman ousts Calibri

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday ordered diplomats to return to using Times New ​Roman font in official communications, calling his predecessor Antony Blinken's decision ‌to adopt Calibri a "wasteful" diversity move, according to an internal department cable seen by Reuters.

A cable dated December 9 ‌sent to all U.S. diplomatic posts said that typography shapes the professionalism of an official document and Calibri is informal ‍compared to serif typefaces.

"To restore decorum and professionalism to the Department’s written work products and abolish yet another wasteful DEIA program, the Department is returning to Times New Roman ​as its standard typeface," the cable said.

No wonder Little Marco always looks so lost and miserable. This is the kind of stupid he thinks he needs to do to impress the Cult Leader and MAGA.

People have their preferences, some even still for some reason choosing to use comic sans. TNR does have a classic look (read dated), but I'd be interested in how calibri is "wasteful" when it is the default font for Microsoft products, but even if it weren't, the difference in using one font or another is just a click on a row of choices. I don't generally have a problem with a company defining what they want for their style and requiring consistent use, but this seems, like so many other trump admin issues, to be really stupid.

Besides being really stupid, it's mind boggling that their very limited brain power deems this worthy of consequence even as a ridiculous distraction when there's so much real stuff going on.

Hilarious. It's as if the State Department doesn't realize that most documents they issue are translated to other languages before even being read. Such a stupid announcement. Probably designed solely to arouse anger on "the left." Just more petty bullshit. And they quack about trump derangement syndrome.
