Healthcare Issues

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

 But don't brush your teeth with the glue. Just don't.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸

You left out that I said I have no respect for the House not being in session passing our bills and the President’s executive orders.

And I demanded to know from Speaker Johnson what the Republican plan for healthcare is to build the off-ramp off Obamacare and the ACA tax credits to make health insurance affordable for Americans.

Johnson said he’s got ideas and pages of policy ideas and committees of jurisdiction are working on it, but he refused to give one policy proposal to our GOP conference on our own conference call.

Apparently I have to go into a SCIF to find out the Republican healthcare plan!!!
:---P
Marjorie Taylor Greene Says What Everyone's Been Thinking About Mike Johnson

... ACA open enrollment begins Nov. 1, which is when millions of Americans will feel the sticker shock of their health insurance premiums skyrocketing.

The reality is that Johnson, like so many of his predecessors, does not have an alternative GOP health care plan that can replace the ACA. Nearly 24 million Americans rely on the ACA for their health coverage, and an October poll by KFF Health found that 78% of adults say Congress should extend the enhanced tax credits set to expire this year.
Johnson has tried to bumble his way through questions about a Republican health care plan. During a press conference on Monday, he held up a stack of papers when asked by a reporter if his party is working on a solution to the expiring ACA tax credits. Except those papers weren’t a health care plan — they were a framework for a plan, compiled in 2019 by the Republican Study Committee, a group of House conservatives.
 6 years ago.
“Republicans have a long list of ideas,” the speaker insisted.

Republicans, and Democrats, still need actual health care, though, and many have it thanks to the ACA.

More than 3 in 4 ACA marketplace enrollees live in states won by President Donald Trump. In Johnson’s own state, enrollment in ACA’s individual marketplace has grown by nearly 234% over the past five years

Repugs problem is that most people want some kind of affordable health plan, and it wouldn't be that hard to come up with alternatives. Probably even Supes could do it. So they keep saying "we've got ideas/plans" and then nothing. It's because repugs don't want good health plans at all that don't feed all profit to the companies who own them.

Insurance companies are money changers. They price their product on the costs of what they are covering. It is not that the GOP does not desire good health plans. We have to acknowledge we are very fortunate to have good health care in the US. I believe Vrede would agree with me on that. The bottom line is quality has a cost.

I would like to hear from Vrede where hospitals could be more efficient.

Only in wingnut land could healthcare being dictated and denied by algorithms and actuaries instead of doctors be called good healthcare.

And really, it's good healthcare for some, if they can afford it.

And insurance companies don't price according to their actual risk. Their actual risk would include all persons covered by a given plan, no matter where they are or what their condition is. But no, they carve out individual and other divisions and assign risk there. Sure an older unhealthy person is a greater risk individually than a healthy 25-year old, but neither of those change the overall risk of covering X million people. One risk assessment, one price. That would be reasonable.

Been seeing a lot of people post on the socials showing how much their healthcare premiums are set to rise with the sunsetting of the ACA extension provision. There's going to be a lot of sticker shock coming up, and a lot of people going without health insurance.

NOT FOR PROFIT national health insurance. Break even, employ people, don't be a burden on the taxpayers and provide health-care.

Dilbert creator taps Trump to get cancer drug. Others wish they could, too

https://www.npr.org/sections/shots-heal ... rug-rfk-jr
Like many, many Americans, Scott Adams had health insurance problems.

But Adams — made famous first by his long-running Dilbert cartoon, and later for a racist rant on YouTube — counts some powerful people in his social media circle: President Trump, his son Donald Trump Jr. and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

So Adams posted his complaint on X, saying Kaiser of Northern California, his health insurer and care provider, had "dropped the ball" in scheduling a procedure needed to treat his metastatic prostate cancer. Adams wrote he was going to ask Trump to help save his life, and he added: "I am declining fast. I will ask President Trump if he can get Kaiser of Northern California to respond and schedule it for Monday."

...

Our health system shouldn't be one where we need the intervention of the president or the HHS secretary to weigh in on behalf of a high-profile political backer," said Anthony Wright, the executive director of Families USA, a health care advocacy organization.

...

There are Americans all over America who are currently going through similar circumstances," wrote one X poster, responding to Kennedy's offer to help Adams.

Another responded: "How about promoting UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE, like the rest of the Industrialized 1st World Nations, so EVERYONE can be treated, not just Celebrity & the Wealthy?"

CDC Updates Website To Promote Debunked Theory On Vaccines And Autism

... “The statement ‘Vaccines do not cause autism’ is not an evidence-based claim,” the website now says. “Scientific studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines contribute to the development of autism. However, this statement has historically been disseminated by the CDC and other federal health agencies within HHS to prevent vaccine hesitancy.”

The agency added that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services “has launched a comprehensive assessment of the causes of autism, including investigations on plausible biologic mechanisms and potential causal links.”

It said, “This webpage will be updated with gold-standard science.”

Prior to Wednesday, the webpage stated there is “no link” between autism and vaccines and that there are “no links” between any ingredients in the shots and the condition, The Washington Post reported, citing archived webpages.
:angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead:
A separate section of the website titled “About Vaccines for your Children,” which was last updated in August 2024, before President Donald Trump took office, still states, “Scientific studies and reviews continue to show no relationship between vaccines and autism.” ...
:---P
Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, a former top CDC official who resigned as head of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases earlier this year following the ouster of Susan Monarez as agency director, ripped the revisions....
While the new language included on the website clearly undermines the public’s trust in vaccines, the agency did not remove the header “Vaccines do not cause autism” from the page because of an agreement it has with Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), the chair of the Senate Health Committee, the agency noted.

It would be nice to think that those "millions" would be among Trump's "poorly educated" and unwashed hordes and that the literate will ignore the CDC.

It's funny, the "Wizard of Oz" story must be true that awarding a symbol grants the attributes, such as anyone thinking that giving KINO a title automatically turns a nationally recognized loon into an authority on "gold standard science".

SC measles outbreak could soon reach Charlotte, health director warns

A growing measles outbreak in South Carolina could make its way to Charlotte, Mecklenburg County Health Director Dr. Raynard Washington warned.
Build a wall!
South Carolina has reported more than 130 confirmed measles cases and hundreds of people quarantined in Spartanburg and surrounding counties, part of a broader surge that has pushed U.S. cases to their highest level in decades, Axios reported....
TV news: At least 120 of the victims are unvaccinated, many associated with a Slavic church. SC allows far too many claiming a religious exemption from vaccines to be allowed into public school. 95% is needed for 'herd immunity'. One school has only a 21% vaccination rate. Idiots.

Chicken pox and measles are different illnesses caused by different viruses. Same here in regards to chicken pox though.

There are arguments for making the Chickenpox vaccine mandatory to enter public school, and I've never done a deep dive into the cost-benefit calculus. That said, I was never as persuaded as to the need as I am with DTaP, polio and MMR. This SC measles outbreak is ridiculous.

Still, we have public health experts for a reason and they should be trusted unless fallacy or corruption is PROVEN. Besides, no one is forced to vaccinate their kids. It's only those who want a free ride off the taxpayers. Beggars shouldn't be whiners. There are plenty of religious and private schools that don't require vaccination, and many have scholarships for the needy.

Dozens of CDC Health Databases Have Gone Dark Under Trump: ‘The Consequences Will Be Dire’
Nearly half of routinely-updated CDC databases have experienced delays or shutdowns in 2025, with vaccination-related systems disproportionately affected, according to a new study.

Researchers are raising alarms over “unexplained pauses” that have interrupted dozens of U.S. federal health surveillance databases covering vaccinations and overdose deaths during the second Trump administration. The breakdown is creating critical gaps in public health according to a study published on Monday in Annals of Internal Medicine.

During 2025, nearly half (46 percent) of 82 routinely-updated databases managed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) experienced delays or total cessations of new data, an interdisciplinary team reports in their new audit. The majority (87 percent) of the affected databases monitor vaccination-related topics, and most experienced data blackouts for a period of more than six months as of late October 2025....
