Failed prohibition

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

If anything, this poll shows how Trump connects with the folks. He can identify a concern and addresses it create a fear and play on it..
There. Fixed that for you.
 Thanks.

To be fair it's an old playbook. There's always some new drug that justifies shredding the Constitution and international treaties. Remember this when some drug replaces fentanyl in the public conversation.

So, to "fix" the problem the Sackler family created with Oxycontin, the drug was basically banned. I wonder if they now think they should have established better regulation of Oxycontin. If they had done so, fentanyl probably would not exist. And if they manage to stomp fentanyl you can bet your ass that some other chemical concoction will take its place.
To "fix" the problem of pot use in Vietnam the brass cracked down. The troops turned to the easier to hide heroin.
To "fix" the problem of heroin use in Vietnam the brass cracked down. The troops turned from snorting it to the more efficient injection.
Military "fixes" sent a bunch of IV addicts back to America where there weren't many beforehand. This market persists to today, though interdiction has also opened the door for fentanyl. It's a self-serving hamster wheel.

And it's about the only form of capitalism that is looked down upon in America. I really think it's amazing that the power brokers here are so reluctant to legalize drugs; cocaine for example. It would almost immediately eliminate drug cartels and the havoc they create. Plus those power brokers I'm sure are not unaware of the multiple billions per year that cocaine itself generates. Hell, I might even get some myself now and again if I could just go to some state sanctioned place to get it. I've had maybe a dozen experiences with it and never thought much of it. It's nice in a sensual sort of way, but it gave me a type of edge of the seat manner. I'd rather sit back with a fat joint and cold beer.

I had fun with it when roommates were dealing, but not so much fun that I ever sought it out when I was going to have to pay retail. I know that I could taste legal coke without ever becoming addicted, as is true for most users. The others deserve compassionate treatment, not a police state that distorts all of society.

I don't recall ever paying for it. Mostly it was complimentary from the daughter of a psychiatrist at her parents' lake house. But I suppose I'd have done a lot more of it had I not had my own preferred potions.

Lol. Too bad trump didn't turn out like that himself. But if he did turn out that way, would he be just as nutty but in a different direction?

And I've noticed that VW is making the van again.

 Sounds good to me. I have often wondered why old folks, especially those who must take multiple prescriptions a day don't insist on prescriptions for drugs that not only alleviate their symptoms or condition, but make them feel good as well. I feel this issue has huge potential both for patients as well as drug companies. Seems to me what we have now is drugs that cost too much and make you sick. Hell, I see ads for all kinds of drugs on tv....some of them with serious side effects including possible breathing trouble or even death. I have seen no ads saying "take this stuff and it will make you feel damn good."

Almost all of the drugs with ads on tv are patented. You can't patent psilocybin. It MAY eventually end up being widely used, but no one entity will make big bucks off of it. This is why this experiment was performed by an Experienced Professional Private Practice in São Paulo, Brazil rather than Big Pharma.

I guess I was musing about when that Hoffman guy working at Sandoz discovered LSD. That was back in the 40's and then about a dozen years later the CIA did experiments with it (Ken Kesey was one of those volunteers) but abandoned it. Then it became a counter culture hippie thing and after a few years of that, it was declared illegal. I don't know if Sandoz got a patent on LSD, but my idea would be to add some kind of micro dose of LSD or peyote or whatever to an existing drug. No idea if this is feasible or even safe or if it would result in some godawful situation never before seen. Sort of like things are now. Luckily, my tastes in medicine do not require a prescription.
