Supes could look at 75 degrees and sunshine, then a cat 4 hurricane and say "well, everybody has weather." True, but meaningless.

Mostly true, except that the Trump who is president* has made himself undistinguishable from the Trump the grifter and the rest of Trump enterprises, even going so far as to refer to Mar a lago as "southern White House"supesalemgr2 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 20, 2026 10:42 am
Apples and Oranges. Trump enterprises is a private organization that astutely caters to its desired customer base.
Also, for a person who lives on image over substance, one would think he'd realize it's a bad look. But obviously for "his" people, it's not a bad look at all, even while the leopard is eating their face.
BTW. if you couldn't compare apples and oranges, how would you know the difference? The concept is actually not to judge an apple as if it were an orange.
Edit: ran across this from the NYT. Not exactly a left-wing Trump-hating rag.
A review by the editorial board relying on analyses from news organizations shows that Mr. Trump has used the office of the presidency to make at least $1.4 billion," the board explains. "We know this number to be an underestimate because some of his profits remain hidden from public view. And they continue to grow."
The board goes on to cite a variety of ways in which Trump is getting even richer, noting that "the Trumps have made at least $23 million from licensing Mr. Trump's name overseas since his reelection" and that "the Trumps are pocketing $28 million from Amazon for a documentary about (First Lady) Melania Trump."
The Times editorial board also points out that "major tech and media companies have paid Mr. Trump $90.5 million in settlements since his reelection — and that "Qatar gave Mr. Trump a $400 million jet that he will use as Air Force One while president and plans to take with him after leaving office." According to the board, "the Trumps have made at least $867 million through various cryptocurrencies."
"All told, Mr. Trump has profited from his return to the presidency by an amount of money equal to 16,822 times the median U.S. household income," the Times editorial writers lament. "Mr. Trump's hunger for wealth is brazen. Throughout the nation's history, presidents of both parties have taken care to avoid even the appearance of profiting from public service. This president gleefully squeezes American corporations, flaunts gifts from foreign governments and celebrates the rapid growth of his own fortune."

Re: LET THEM EAT CAKE!
Obviously Trump has properly separated himself from his business organization as law requires. Other wise I am sure the democrats would be all over him. There is an apparent desire to associate with the Trump organization by others.O Really wrote: ↑Tue Jan 20, 2026 10:56 amMostly true, except that the Trump who is president* has made himself undistinguishable from the Trump the grifter and the rest of Trump enterprises, even going so far as to refer to Mar a lago as "southern White House"supesalemgr2 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 20, 2026 10:42 am

Re: LET THEM EAT CAKE!
It takes a great deal of naivete as well as stupidity to think that anything that happens in Trump land goes on without his approval.

I said if he has done anything illegal the democrats would be all over it. It is what it is. Kind of like Joe not knowing anything about Hunter's "businesses".

Seriously? The ability of Democrats to be all over anything is somewhat limited - first by being in the minority in both houses, and handicap that's applied to some party every administration. But also because of a politicized justice department and a pet Supreme Court. Screaming by itself doesn't help much.

Re: LET THEM EAT CAKE!
Trump: I think I'll go shoot somebody on Madison Avenue. Is that legal for me, the greatest President* ever?
PseudoLawyers: Well, generally that would be illegal, but we don't really care about that anyway do we? When did you have in mind doing this?
Trump: Maybe this coming Thursday.
PseudoLawyers: So let's see, in New York, I don't see any specific law that prohibits a President* with 34 felony convictions from shooting somebody on Madison Avenue on a Thursday.
Trump: OK, that's good. And if anybody does say it's ILLEGAL, I'll just say the lawyers approved it.
PseudoLawyers: Yep, finding loopholes so you can do things nobody else would even consider doing is our job.
Trump: And besides, I can always say it wasn't me and the rubes will all believe it.
