Very exciting.
One of the starting QBs in one of last weekend's FCS semifinals is also a Hawai'i boy, Kealiʻi Ah Yat. He plays for my University of Montana, as did his father, Brian Ah Yat.
Brian led the Grizzlies to the 1996 NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship Game, where they lost to Marshall by a score of 49–29. Marshall featured the unstoppable College and NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss, 9 rec, 220 yds, 4 TDs! Brian went on to play in the CFL, with the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League and for the Hawai'i Hammerheads of the Indoor Professional Football League. He's also coached high school ball in Hawai'i.
The Grizzlies lost their FCS semifinal game to Montana State last weekend, but Kealiʻi is just a Redshirt Sophomore and FCS players rarely leave early for the pros. So, he'll get two more shots at the crown.
