Latin America

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

MAGA always LIES.

Leaving aside the coming war, we could have given Maduro a bribe and security assurances in a third country for a fraction of the cost of the deployment so far.

MAGA always wastes taxpayer money. :angry-banghead:
If DonOld is really stupid enough to escalate, a distinct possibility he's guaranteed his third impeachment.
The point is to goad Maduro into giving Jagoff/DonOLD an excuse.

Killing or deposing Maduro. He's said mean things about DonOLD. Also, distraction from the Epstein files and other abominations. Long term occupation seems unlikely, but who would have predicted that we would have troops in Afghanistan for 20 years and a few troops still in Iraq 22 years later? Foresight has not been a forte of our bloodthirsty, interventionist, imperialist nation.
Regime change usually involves having a preferred new regime ready to go. There's no 9/11, the country isn't going to rally to stop the actual trickle of drugs that may or probably doesn't come from Venezuela. He might as well invade Canada or Greenland, same diff.

Is he crazy and desperate enough for the Peace President to go to this length to cover for Epstein? -0-?

Maybe if there's Pee Tapes or he did blow Bubba....
Wow.

There are always questions about authority in these situations. Let us not forget the Biden Administration got an indictment for Maduro which opens up the authority to capture.

Assuming that's accurate, when did Trump ever continue anything Biden started? And back to more of an original question, what law gives the US authority to play police inside a sovereign country? Netenyahoo had and maybe has an international war crimes indictment, but nobody thinks it's OK to go nab him in Israel.

That is the question I refer. Apparently there is precedent. The same with Noriega in 1989. It does give you guys another subject to get your panties in a wad.

Yeah, well, the panties would be in a wad over this no matter what flavour of President named himself bully of the day or King of the World.

I do, by the UN or Holland.

U.S. interventions in Latin America and the Caribbean haven't always gone as planned

The overthrow of Guatemala's (democratically elected) government in 1954
The war for United Fruit Company, now Chiquita. Decades of extreme oppression to follow. Thanks, Ike.

The Bay of Pigs invasion
How did that work out in the long run?

The U.S. invasion of Grenada :laughing-rolling:

U.S. support for the Nicaraguan Contras
Terrorists without popular support.

The U.S. invasion of Panama
Now, Dementia Don pardons drug trafficking Latin American leaders. :wtf:

Also, there's:
Selective facilitation of drug trafficking.
Creation of the bloodbaths in El Salvador and Colombia.
Sponsorship of decades of brutal RW rule in:
Argentina
Chile, where Kissinger created a coup
Brasil
Honduras, etc

:crybaby:

The need and desire for oil will motivate companies to take advantage of this opportunity. Their capitalistic expertise will overcome any challenges. Yes, there will be challenges but they will be resolved.

There's a good term for that view:
Spoiler:
Being a "Pollyanna" means being excessively or blindly optimistic, always looking for the good in every situation, often to the point of seeming naive or ignoring negative realities

The oil companies will probably get some mercenary types for lots of $$$$$$......maybe. If there's boots on the ground to protect them.

US President, with no Congressional input, raids a sovereign country and kidnaps its president and brings along the wife for entertainment, I guess. Says he's gonna raid the country's oil resources. What could possibly go wrong?

Remember in 2003 when they said that Iraqi oil resources would pay for the war?

This group make Bush and Cheney look like geniuses.

Didn't the US used to decry and criticize predator countries establishing "puppet governments"?
