Latin America

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

"Tell us wha t there is to be positive about?"

The obvious is Maduro is a bad guy. Secondly, the majority of citizens of Venezuela are glad he is gone and the opportunity for freedom there is enhanced. He is a commie and any elimination of them is good.
Kidnapping a foreign leader regardless if he's a "bad guy" violates international law and sovereignty as well as a standing Executive Order from Ford.

We are being viewed as international pariahs, on a par with Putin and Kim. #MAGA!

Get out of your bubble.

Imagine the outrage if Netanyahu was whisked away in the middle of the night to stand trial for his war crimes.

It was an arrest of an indicted (Biden administration) individual.

So what? It doesn't change my assessment.

It was a brilliant operation by our military and apparently you guys can't stand it. Why didn't Biden try to pull it off when he got the indictment?

A friend of mine was born and raised in Venezuala. Has been in the US for two years now. Hung out last night and talked about current events. She's absolutely elated as are her family and friends still in Venezuala that Maduro is gone.

I'm personally opposed going into other countries and meddling in their affairs. And I think there absolutely should be a rules based international order. But I guess if you've lived under a dictatorship most of your life with no end in sight and your family and friends are stuck living under it as well, an unexpected event like this one can most certainly be welcome.

Who knows how it'll turn out though.

What's the normal process for an international indictment?

Don't bother answering, you'll just do your usual feckless divert and run away routine.

Yeah, no one is pretending this guy is a saint or even legitimate but we have a congressional process in regards to invading and kidnapping foreign nationals much less heads of state.

My fear is this will embolden Trump to do other unsavory things in the international arena.

After Maduro raid, Senate to vote on curbing Trump's war powers
https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/sch ... 06947.html
... Democrats would need at least three additional Republican senators besides Paul to back the resolution for it to pass — putting pressure on Trump’s allies in the Senate to support the military action. Republicans have largely praised Trump’s action, including those from the MAGA wing of the party who have urged the U.S. to withdraw from military engagements overseas....
Worshipful and automatic hypocrisy is the hallmark of MAGA. We can bet that there are SoupySales posts on CPF criticizing Dem "nation building".

Imagine the cheering, including here and in Israel. MAGA would be hypocritical, as usual.

Mexico may be next - just attacking "cartels" or also taking down the government. Why not a two-fer? The Navy is already here.

Netanyahu has killed tens of thousands, targeting children and is currently actively keeping a population impoverished and in famine.

Putin has killed hundreds of thousands, targeting children and is currently actively keeping a population impoverished and in famine.

I may be good if they're next.

Both have been condemned by the UN and/or indicted by the ICC. That's justification. Nobody respects or recognizes America's unilateral and uber-selective indictments.
