Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday designated one of the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy groups in the U.S. a “foreign terrorist organization,” following a similar step by Texas last month.
Crap. Are fascists DerSantis and Abbott both running for POTUS in 2023?
The directive against the Council on American-Islamic Relations comes in an executive order DeSantis posted on the social media site X. It also gives the same label to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Neither CAIR nor the Muslim Brotherhood is designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. government.
Real world consequences:
The order instructs Florida agencies to prevent the two groups and those who have provided them material support from receiving contracts, employment and funds from a state executive or cabinet agency....
One example would be contracts for outreach to the Muslim community.

Denmark is (well, was at this rate) an ally to the United States. Now the Trump admin deputy chief of staff is implying we'll take it by force if we want it because we can? How is that even defensible? Does MAGA have any principles?
This weekend, local Indivisibles and allies are hosting protests in cities and towns across the country to respond to the escalating violence of Trump’s secret police force. While the grassroots are leading a national weekend of action, this is how Democratic leaders in Congress have responded.
We're in the streets, and Democratic leaders are dodging questions about whether an agency that teargasses babies and kills innocent people should continue to have a budget bigger than most countries’ militaries. It’s pathetic.
We need leaders who will stand up for American communities being terrorized by Trump’s fascist death squads. We need leaders who don’t have to consult poll-tested messaging to answer: “No, we shouldn’t be giving ICE more money to kill and brutalize innocent people.” But if we want leaders who don’t let us down again and again, we’ll have to put in the work. That’s why we’re running the largest primary campaign in Indivisible’s history....
The raids on our communities, human rights abuses against immigrants and peaceful protestors, and escalating violence by Trump’s secret police are all being turbo-charged by a massive increase in ICE’s budget passed by Republicans last year. We’re seeing the consequences in real-time and the response cannot be to just issue denouncements and calls for investigations. Democrats committing to using their leverage to rein in ICE’s violent, lawless behavior is the bare minimum.
We need a Democratic Party that unifies in opposition to this regime. We can’t hold the regime accountable if we have to waste time and resources pleading, begging, and cajoling our elected leaders to do their damn jobs and stand up for their constituents and the Constitution they swore to uphold.
We are going to do the work to win back control of Congress this year, and on the road to November we will run the largest primary campaign in Indivisible’s history to build a Democratic Party whose first instinct is to fight -- not fold....
I agree . Slashing ICE funding and reforming its practices also need to be central issues for the general election.
