Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Greenland

I'm not sure that Greenland needs its own topic, but DonOLD and his thugs sure sound serious. Plus, there's the melting icecap and struggling polar bears.

Greenland: Fuck off, MAGAts

Image
Around 1,000 Greenlanders gather in the city center and march to the US consulate building located on the outskirts of the city to protest US President Donald Trump's recent remarks on the sovereignty of their country
... "We don't want to be Americans, we don't want to be Danes, we want to be Greenlanders," Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and four party leaders announced in a statement issued Friday night.

... Greenland's party leaders reiterated that "Greenland's future must be decided by the Greenlandic people.

"As Greenlandic party leaders, we would like to emphasize once again our wish that the United States' contempt for our country ends," the statement declared.

Officials from Denmark, Greenland, and the United States met Thursday in Washington and are set to reconvene next week to discuss the White House's renewed push to take control of the island. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has warned that an American takeover of Greenland would represent the end of NATO....

"No other country can interfere in this," they stated. "We must decide the future of our country ourselves, without pressure for quick decision, delay, or interference from other countries."

... Although Greenland is the world's largest island, it has approximately 57,000 inhabitants and lacks independent military forces. Denmark is responsible for its defense, though the Danish military is considerably smaller than America's armed forces.

Uncertainty persists regarding how other NATO members would respond if the U.S. attempted to forcibly take control of the island, or whether they would stand in solidarity with Denmark.
Speak up before it's too late. Greenland for the Greenlanders. They are the ones who have sacrificed to build lives there.

I am totally opposed to the USA "taking over" Greenland. I have no issue with Greenland joining the USA as a territory. However, it must be an agreement with Denmark and the citizens of Greenland agree by vote to join the USA as a territory.

Donald Trump's humiliating blow as rival bashes his 'completely insane' idea live on TV
MS Now has issued a disastrous blow to Donald Trump after Democrat Michael McFaul harshly criticized the president's plans to take over Greenland in a fiery live on-air rant

... (Michael) McFaul, a former U.S. ambassador to Russia, appeared on Tuesday’s 11th Hour on MS NOW, where Stephanie Ruhle asked for his thoughts on the possibility of hostilities between NATO members.

“If the United States takes Greenland by force, would that not be one NATO country going after another?” she began, adding, “And if that takes place, wouldn’t that be the end of the NATO alliance? That feels monumental to me.”

“I can’t stress enough how completely insane this idea is on so many levels,” McFaul responded, clarifying, "First of all, there is no national security interest that we need to seize Greenland. They have not made the case.

"We can have as many soldiers there as we want. We have bases there. I worked in the government. I know how we’ve used Greenland before. We can do that through negotiation.”

The Democrat added, “There is no reason to go back to 19th-century imperialism,” before agreeing that such a confrontation would be the end of NATO as we know it.

“Not only would it blow up NATO, it would alienate the United States from the entire world, from the democratic world, the free world, the autocratic world,” he then warned. “And then we will empower countries like China. ‘Well, if they can take Greenland, of course, we can take Taiwan.'” McFaul concluded by blasting Trump's looming plan as "the craziest idea I’ve ever heard of."

Shortly after his TV appearance, McFaul took to X to double down on his stance, saying, "Trump is acting like a gangster emperor around the world right now. If he continues, this will end very badly for the American people.

"Emperors overreach, eventually weakening, bankrupting, and sometimes even destroying their homelands. That's why there aren't that many left today," he added....

So,
If he violates international law because China and Russia are surrounding Greenland with their non existent ships, NATO falls or kicks us out and the NATO countries give us the boot from all our bases leaving us with no European presence.....then what?

Besides Putin is very happy.

For all intents and purposes the US already has full military control over Greenland via a treaty signed in 1951. We can do whatever we want militarily, we just have to ask Denmark and Greenland as a formality. We're given sole permission to build bases, military installations, house military personal, etc. We even have a base on Greenland at the moment. It's laughable absurd to even think that a NATO country would allow Russia or China to "take control". He's just making things up that have no basis in reality.

Forcibly acquiring sovereignty would change nothing in regards to security. t would only make us weaker by destroying our alliances and causing a rift in the current world order. It would absolutely make us weaker, but that bumbling fucking moron in the white house doesn't understand these things. The veiled threats he's already levelled have done damage as is. The United States isn't looked at as that "shining beacon on the hill" as we were once were. Nor are we looked at for global leadership and guidance. We're becoming an international pariah.

I haven't spent much time looking at foreign press to see how we're being viewed, been busy being disgusted with the coverage of events here.

I need to remedy that.

Whenever I travel and get to talking to people and they find out I'm an American sometimes the topic turns to politics.

Last time I was in Europe, prior to the inauguration, it was interesting talking to people about current events. One older guy in Germany that had emigrated from the UK to Munich was all about Trump and convinced the US was going to enter an age of prosperity. That's the only person I recall having supported DT. Most of the people I spoke with were in complete awe at how hopelessly stupid we were for electing him. Both times. Someone from Canada told me it was like watching a reality TV show.

When I was in Cambodia some years back during dickheads first term, some random Cambodian dude I was talking to was making fun of the US for having Trump as president.

It's a combo of being an international joke and others being absolutely disgusted and flabbergasted with the United States from my first hand experience, with an occasional fan.

Trump intent on conquering Greenland, says Danish foreign minister as talks end with the US

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/ ... ks-denmark
Donald Trump remains intent on “conquering” Greenland, the Danish foreign minster has said, as crucial talks with US officials failed to solve a “fundamental disagreement” that has led to unprecedented tensions between Washington and a Nato ally.

It is “absolutely not necessary” for the US to seize Greenland, a largely self-governing part of the Danish kingdom, the Danish foreign minster, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, said late on Wednesday. “We didn’t manage to change the American position. It’s clear that the president has this wish of conquering Greenland. And we made it very, very clear that this is not in the interest of the kingdom.”

..

During the talks, the White House continued its social media offensive against its Nato ally, depicting two dogsleds headed toward either the US or Russia and China, with the caption: “Which way, Greenland man?” Trump had previously said Denmark’s defence of the territory was composed of “two dogsleds”.

...
Greenland’s prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, told a joint press conference with his Danish counterpart, Mette Frederiksen, on Tuesday that the island would not be owned or governed by Washington.

“If we have to choose between the US and Denmark here and now, we choose Denmark, Nato and the EU,” Nielsen said, adding that Greenland’s “goal and desire is peaceful dialogue, with a focus on cooperation”.
Also note that the phrase "which way, Greenland man" is a play on the phrase "which way, western man", a title used by a Neo Nazi book: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Gayley_Simpson

This crazy son of a bitch is going to be increasingly insane over the next ten months. It would not surprise me at all if he invents another "emergency," declares martial law, suspends elections, and eats a Big Mac and one of those fish sandwiches. What a shithead. The cult gushes in awe.

And his fucking silhouette is beginning to look like the old graphic from the Alfred Hitchcock show, where Alfred is shown in shadow profile and the shape is similar to a pyramid....small head, increasing radius on the lower abdomen as it flows down. The only difference is that Hitchcock was bald.

 Yeah, but what I had more in mind was the old side profile that appeared at the start of his old tv show. That side view pic of trump strutting around the Ford plant is what made me think of it. Oh, and that guy who trump flipped off has several hundred thousand bucks in a crowd funding thing.

Donations for suspended Ford worker who heckled Trump more than $800,000

The employee Ford Motor suspended for heckling President Donald Trump — who, in turn, appears to have given the employee the middle finger — is getting plenty of support from his friends.

But late in the evening of Jan. 14, it appears he asked to close the donations to two GoFundMe pages. The pages were to support the suspended Ford employee, identified as T.J. Sabula, and raised $810,765 for him in total as of 7:36 p.m.

... In an update on one of the pages, a person who identified himself as Sabula wrote on Jan. 14 in the late evening, "We greatly appreciate the outpouring of support! At this time we are closing donations to this campaign and encourage you to look for other causes and organizations to support. We appreciate every single donation, comment, share, and sign of support!" ...

Buying Greenland could cost US $700 billion - but only one in five Americans wants it
Trump has vowed that he would take over the Danish territory ‘one way or the other’

... The $700 billion price tag is an estimate crunched by scholars and former U.S. officials for planning purposes, and is more than half the Defense Department’s annual budget, according to NBC News.

... The Trump administration continues to push forward on its plan to add Greenland to the U.S. despite outrage from European leaders. Now, a new poll also shows that Trump’s plan is unpopular with Americans - with nearly 75 percent saying using military force to take the island was a bad idea....

The move is not a popular one with Americans, with just 17 percent approving of Trump’s efforts to acquire the mineral-rich island, according to polling published Wednesday by Reuters/Ipsos.

Some 47 percent of Americans disapproved, while 35 percent were unsure. And 71 percent of Americans — including nine in 10 Democrats and six in 10 Republicans — said using military force to achieve Trump’s goal was a “bad idea,” compared to 4 percent who said it would be a “good idea.”

The polling found 66 percent of Americans said they were worried the plans to take over Greenland would damage the NATO alliance and the U.S. alliance with Europe.
 GoAmericansGo!
“We are not for sale and that we will not be annexed,” Jess Berthelsen, chair of Greenland’s national trade union confederation SIK, told The Guardian.

Berthelsen said the people of Greenland “can’t recognize” claims made by Trump that the territory “is covered with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place.”

“His claims about our waters being full of Russian and Chinese ships, we cannot see that at all,” the union leader told the outlet.
