http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/20 ... ?hpt=hp_t1Former Gov. Mark Sanford finished first in Tuesday's crowded Republican primary for the U.S. House special election in South Carolina, CNN projects. However, Sanford fell well short of the 50% margin needed to avoid a runoff.
The former governor will compete against the next top contender in the runoff over the next two weeks, though it's unclear who his opponent will be, as a close race has shaped up for second place.
On the Democratic side, CNN projects Elizabeth Colbert Busch, sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, will win the nomination.

Colbert vs. Sanford
Maybe. So how exactly does a do nothing governor who cheated on his wife get republican support? Oh right, they like hypocrites.
Wing nuts. Not just for breakfast anymore.

Sanford is undoubtedly a pathological liar. He even lies when the truth would serve him better. I don't know why the GOP would dump him - he's a poster boy for Republican standards.

I don't know about campaign finance law, or even if there is still such a thing other than "more dollars all the time" but it seems he could comment on anything of public record, which this is. He couldn't read an article from the newspaper and add facial expression?Vrede wrote:We all know that Sanford is an idiot, this is just proof positive that SC GOP voters are . . . well, we already knew that, too. Heck, I'm not so sure about SC Dems.
I'm guessing that propriety and maybe even campaign finance law precludes Stephen Colbert from commenting. Too bad.

She was doing well before this latest flap, so it should give her a boost. http://www.politico.com/story/2013/03/m ... 89329.htmlVrede wrote:I don't know for sure but it might be trickier since his sister is Sanford's opponent. It's probably best if he let's her run her own race, anyhow, if it was anywhere but SC I'd say she has it sewn up.
Notice at the end of the article, "Both Colbert and Sanford could deploy well-liked surrogates ahead of the May 7 general election. Thirty-six percent of the district has a favorable opinion of Stephen Colbert, and 27 percent have a negative opinion. But Jenny Sanford, Mark’s ex-wife, would be a true weapon: 55 percent of the district views her favorably and only 18 percent have a negative opinion." So - 55% love Jenny, the victim of Sanford's harassment, trespassing, infringement, yada. Hmmmmm.

Yes, but I don't vote there. If I did, I would probably vote for Colbert-Busch, as her ideas are reasonable, and Sanford is an idiot.Vrede wrote:South Carolina 1st District Special Election - Sanford vs. Colbert Busch Poll
Colbert +9%. Yes, it's a Dem poll, but the 7% gain in just 1 month is impressive.
Wneglia, is your Charleston home in SC 1?

C'mon, Doc - I can see "none of the above" or I can see refusing to vote for a Dem, but you would never seriously consider voting for that idiot, would you?Vrede wrote:"probably"?

AP calledl it for Sanford. We now have another example of how stupid GOP SC voters are. Let the ridicule begin.

What's your guess... less than six months or more than six months. My guess is less.Boatrocker wrote:He'll fuck up again.

Based on what I've learned from Criminal Minds, he's de-volving; the frequency of his infractions are increasing. He can't seem to avoid trespassing on Jenny Sanford's property, despite her repeated protestations and letters from her lawyer to his. He has a court date today in regards to his "Super Bowl" shenanigans a few months ago.O Really wrote:What's your guess... less than six months or more than six months. Best guess- it'll take longer than six months, since he'll be more occupied in DC and he doesn't have to sneak off to Argentina to get laid any more. But I have faith in his inability to do the smart thing.

And he'll be feeling pretty invincible and bullet-proof now, too. With good reason. Effin' GOP idiots. Full disclosure here - I don't like his politics and wouldn't want him in office if he were the poster boy of piety. But even if I did like his politics, I think he's a baaaaaad choice. Not really because of the affair - if nobody got into office who had had an affair, there wouldn't be many left. But because of what you called his "inability to do the smart thing." He admitted sneaking into Jenny's house despite the court order, and offered as an excuse only "he didn't want his son to watch the Super Bowl alone." Seriously? Did they just decide that day to have the Super Bowl? No time for plans and coordination with Jenny? Did the kid not have other options? And would it have warped him permanently if he had watched it alone? Do we even know the kid found the Super Bowl important? That sort of thinking is why he thought he could get by with sneaking off to Argentina in the first place, and will continue in all aspects of his life - personal and professional. He's a loose cannon and those who elected him deserve the derision they're going to get in the next year or so if he lasts that long.

Which is why I said "best guess" in reference to >6 months. I think he's got faulty wiring and will do something stupidly inappropriate.O Really wrote:And he'll be feeling pretty invincible and bullet-proof now, too . . . .
