Donny, are you ok?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Owning a Super Bowl ring that you found, stole, bought, or was gifted doesn't make you a champion - or even a player.
She can give away the medal, but she can't give the honor or the respect associated with it.
I keep thinking I can't be any more disgusted and embarrassed by the current US president, and yet he keeps digging under my lowest expectations.
Not feeling warm fuzzies for her either.

She really wants to be president of Venezuela, let's hope for the right reasons.

I wonder why nobody seems to have ever read about how appeasement turned out for Chamberlain et. al.

You really think they read history, or even read for that matter?

Republicans against Trump

Donald Trump signed the charter of his “Board of Peace” in Davos, calling it “one of the most consequential bodies ever created in the history of the world.”

Not a single EU country has joined except Viktor Orbán of Hungary, a Putin stooge who, according to polls, is expected to lose the April election.
Hooray! Expect Trumpian whines of election fraud.
The rest of the lineup includes thriving democracies like Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.

I wouldn't bet on it, but I'm still going with IV starts and blood draws. Other possibilities include leukemia or a clotting disorder.

So supposing it is IV starts and blood draws, why, knowing how easily he bruises and how much publicity he gets from it, wouldn't they use a less visible place like an arm. And, it's probably not easy to get blood out of somebody with no heart.

In elderly and overweight people the hand is often the easiest access. I had a blood draw the other day where the venipuncturist missed good veins in each elbow. I suggested my hand and she got it. I called it karma for all the pokes I've done. There was some bruising on my hand.

What could necessitate multiple IV starts?

ChatGPT says:
Several medical treatments and situations may require more than one IV (intravenous) line to be started at the same time. This is usually done to deliver different therapies simultaneously, ensure backup access, or allow high-volume or incompatible medications to run safely.
Here are the most common examples:
🚑 Emergency & Critical Care
Trauma or massive bleeding
Large-bore IVs for rapid fluids and blood products
Septic shock
One IV for vasopressors, another for antibiotics/fluids
Cardiac arrest
Multiple IVs or IV + IO for medications and fluids
🏥 ICU & Hospital Treatments
Vasopressors (e.g., norepinephrine, dopamine)
Often need a dedicated line due to safety and compatibility
Multiple IV medications
When drugs are incompatible or need different infusion rates
Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)
Requires a dedicated line; other meds need separate access
Continuous sedation or analgesia
Separate from fluids or intermittent medications
💉 Oncology & Hematology
Chemotherapy
Multiple drugs with different infusion requirements
Bone marrow or stem cell transplant
One line for chemo, another for blood products or antibiotics
🩸 Dialysis & Apheresis
Hemodialysis
Requires dedicated vascular access
Plasma exchange (plasmapheresis)
Often needs multiple access points
🏥 Surgery & Anesthesia
Major surgeries
One IV for anesthesia, another for fluids/blood
High-risk anesthesia cases
Backup IV access for emergencies
🧪 Special Situations
Contrast imaging plus medication infusion
Patients with poor venous access
One line may fail, so backup IVs are placed
Long-term antibiotic therapy
PICC or central line plus peripheral IV
🔌 Types of Access That May Be Used Together
Peripheral IV + Central Line
Peripheral IV + PICC
Multiple peripheral IVs
IV + Intraosseous (emergency)
Why multiple IVs are used
Speed (rapid fluid or blood delivery)
Safety (incompatible drugs)
Reliability (backup access)
Precision (different infusion rates)
If you’re asking from a clinical, EMS, nursing, or patient perspective, I can tailor the answer further—just let me know.
