Some former staffers are saying that something has clearly snapped inside Nancy Mace — and now Washington can’t look away.
Once billed as a savvy, media-ready Republican with crossover appeal, Mace is now spiraling through what even her former staff calls a full political and personal collapse. The breaking point came last year, when she stunned the House by accusing her ex-fiancé, Patrick Bryant, of horrific crimes—on the House floor, under constitutional immunity, flanked by props like a metal safe and security camera.
It wasn’t just shocking. It was incendiary. And it marked the moment when Mace’s mission to “stand up for women” visibly morphed into a scorched-earth crusade centered entirely on herself.
Behind the scenes, former aides describe chaos: screaming fits, threats, staffers reduced to tears, and demands that crossed ethical lines. They say she ordered them to buy her alcohol late at night, clean her Airbnb properties, and even manipulate Reddit threads ranking the “hottest women in Congress.” Turnover in her office has been among the worst on Capitol Hill.
“She’s not okay,” one former staffer said bluntly. Another put it more starkly: “Something’s broken. The motherboard’s fried.”
The unraveling hasn’t stopped. There was the infamous airport meltdown in Charleston, where police say Mace berated officers during a government shutdown. Then came an Ethics Committee inquiry, polling numbers collapsing in her South Carolina governor bid, and the slow burn of alienating allies — including Donald Trump himself.
Once desperate for Trump’s endorsement, Mace now appears to have torched that bridge entirely — especially after bucking GOP leadership on the Epstein files and publicly defying Trumpworld pressure. Former consultants say her chances of winning the primary are fading fast.
And yet, flashes of the old Nancy Mace still appear. In hearings on human trafficking, she’s been called sharp, informed, and compelling — reminding people of the politician who once looked like a post-Trump future for the GOP.
That’s what makes this collapse so grim.
Mace insists she’s fighting for justice. Her critics say she’s fighting ghosts, burning everything around her, and mistaking spectacle for strength. Even Republicans who once rooted for her now whisper that her career may be beyond saving.
In today’s Republican Party, chaos is currency—but even MAGA has limits. And Nancy Mace may have finally crossed them.

Nancy Mace first arrived in Washington just before January 6, 2021. In those early days, she sought to position herself as a Republican willing to break with the MAGA wing of the party. She was also in a hurry to distinguish herself: She told her staff she wanted to go down to the House floor and “get punched in the face by rioters” to get more media attention. In a staff handbook, she outlined quotas for getting on cable news and local TV so she could build her brand as “National Nancy.”

Her staffers, as well as many inside the Republican Party, thought she had potential — a willingness to both take risky, heterodox positions and to submit enthusiastically to the ludicrous demands of the modern attention economy. She could come off as a bit nuts, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing in the age of Trump. One person close to Mace recalled the way Bill Maher described meeting Trump for the first time. In this person’s experience, Mace was not a crazy person but someone who played one on TV.

Five years in, however, it’s unclear if Mace actually knows the difference between the two, according to former staffers. “We’ve moved past that now,” the person said. “Something’s broken. The motherboard’s fried. We’re short-circuiting somewhere.”

Idk how the state deals with pluralities. Do we hope she loses the Primary so we're rid of her for at least 2 years? Or, do we hope she wins the Primary so a Dem has the best chance to win in Nov?

BREAKING: MAGA Congresswoman Nancy Mace's heavy drinking gets RUTHLESSLY exposed by her former Comms Director after she claimed that she doesn't drink alcohol because of a "genetic condition."

This an absolute dumpster fire for Mace...

"Nancy Mace claiming she doesn’t drink alcohol might be the funniest, most brazen lie she’s told to date," Natalie Johnson wrote on X. "The woman drank so much she’d have interns or junior staff run to Congressional Liquor during the work day so she could imbibe during telephone town halls."

Johnson served as Mace's Director of Communications for eight months in 2021. Before that, she was the Press Secretary for Senator Martha McSally.

This latest scandal was ignited when a bombshell profile of the South Carolina congresswoman revealed that several former staffers described her behavior as erratic and abusive. The ex-staffers also revealed that she "excessively" abuses marijuana and alcohol and was "befuddled" during a 2022 trip to Europe.

“Look, when I worked for her, our poor scheduler was getting calls at 2 o’clock in the morning to come bring her bottles of tequila," stated one staffer.

The habitually dishonest Mace rushed to do damage control by accusing the "Fake News" of spreading lies about her.

"I have a lifelong condition called hemochromatosis, a genetic disease where my body absorbs too much iron. I can only get rid of iron by bleeding it out," she claimed on X. "So I have a lot of phlebotomies. Any and all alcohol makes it worse. Mystery solved. Nancy Mace isn't an alcoholic. Nor do I 'imbibe.'"

In the same post that she claimed she does not imbibe, Mace shared a video in which she stated that she does enjoy "an occasional glass of red wine from time to time." So can she drink alcohol or not? If she does indeed have a disease that prevents her from drinking, presumably she can't simply switch it off when she has a hankering for wine.

For our money, we trust the former staffers. Nancy Mace is lying through her winestained teeth.
