I've got about three or four inches of snow and it's snowing pretty good now and since I got up. And it's damn cold, too.

Looks like we will receive closer to the 7" forecast in western Henderson County. Supposed to be winding down this afternoon.

Yeah, I've not seen one car go by all day. Not even the mailman. But so far to fossil fuels are still working so I guess I support them. But I don't really know whether our local power is hydroelectric or from the burning of natural gas or coal or oil. At the outset, TVA was pretty much all hydroelectric projects; something like 42 dams were built all over the south during its initial founding.

Don't get me started on the TVA. Seems a lot of folks in TN would welcome a private power company to replace TVA.

No idea who gets the money....the power bill goes to an outfit called APC which I think is based in Ohio. But all during the time I grew up here the power bill came from Kingsport Power Company. It's main building downtown is now my bank. Kingsport Power Company no longer exists.

It is amazing. The TVA is one of those government bureaucracies that no one knows anything about. It just keeps getting funded with apparently little, if any, oversight.

I've never checked into it. Not even during times when it goes out. Luckily it hasn't gone out during this cold spell. I'd hate to have to chase down some atoms and be forced to stomp or smash them into neutrons just to get warm. I've always thought it strange that "nuclear power" is really steam power, just like how most early machines were powered. The only difference is how the steam is made.

Same with coal and centralized oil or gas power generation.

I hope you include yourself in that group that doesn't know anything about TVA. Looks to me like it makes a profit. And oversight is not needed; it gets no government funding.

I didn't mention to him that "oversight" has been thrown out with the Constitution over the past year. The people who are tasked to do oversight (inspectors general) have all been fired by trump.

As "frozen" iguanas rain down in Florida

And CBS News Miami found about a dozen cold-stunned iguanas near an apartment complex. Most of them likely fell from trees.

So we've been up to Big Bear for a few days this week, getting our "winter experience." Good bit of snow still left, and most of the slopes were still open. Cold nights, but beautiful clear days in upper 50's during the day. This morning, we woke up to 27 degrees; when we go home it was 80 at the coast, which is pretty much August weather. In between, we went through areas up to 97. Total distance from freezing and snow on the ground to 80 degree beach weather and record breaking 90's in between? About 120 miles. Wildflowers blooming a lots of places.

And it's still a week to the end of winter.

This winter has been record hot in the US. The East Coast storms have been getting all of the coverage, but the average has been boosted by the ridiculous high temps in the West and Plains. NOAA doesn't use an Electoral College.

We are in for a wild ride on Sunday.

Right now they're calling for 3-6" for me and maybe blizzard conditions. Just north of Green Bay it's two feet.
