Elon Musk says he is launching a new political party, weeks after dramatically falling out with US President Donald Trump.
The billionaire announced on his social media platform X that he had set up the America Party, billing it as a challenge to the Republican and Democratic two-party system.
However, it is unclear if the party has been formally registered with US election authorities. Musk, who was born outside of the US and is thus ineligible to run for the US presidency, does not say who will lead it.
The last time a billionaire led a 3rd party effort, Ross Perot 1992 presidential campaign, Bill Clinton beat the incumbent, Daddy Shrub. Perot was quirky, but not as quirky as Melon.

It'll be interesting to see if it goes past the "pretend" stage and if it does, it'll be interesting to see who its primary demographic focus will be. Historically, splinter parties have needed a strong personality leading as an actual candidate - not just as an owner/sponsor or fund raiser. The two most successful candidates outside major parties were Ross Perot and George Wallace (ironically also in a made-up party also called "American Independent". Splinter groups without that sort of charismatic leader haven't done so well. But a good starting point would be "who would be an Elon Musk follower?" Such a person would be saying in effect "If Elon likes the candidate, I'll like him, and if the candidate gets in office, I'll expect Elon to be his primary advisor." I don't see Elon's party to be the type of mainstream moderate that would attract dissidents from both repugs and dems as well as attracting some unaffiliateds. So yeah, my guess is that he'll take away repug votes. Yay.
The billionaire joined a growing number of voices on the right in blaming leftwing leaders for Kirk's shooting, posting on X that the political left is "the party of murder."
The post implies that the person who shot Kirk is a leftist, despite authorities having not yet identified the suspect. Many users interacting with Musk's post say the former Trump ally is only inciting more political violence....
Melon had also said that the RW shooter of the liberal Minnesota legislators was a lefty. Moron.

We are in a race against China so we need the best companies to operate at a speed that gets us to the Moon FIRST.
SpaceX has the contract to build the HLS which will get U.S. astronauts there on Artemis III.
But, competition and innovation are the keys to our dominance in space so @NASA is opening up HLS production to Blue Origin and other great American companies.
Why are we "in a race against China" to get (back) "to the Moon FIRST"?
Elon Musk
Also, one question
Elon Musk
Blue Origin has never delivered a payload to orbit, let alone the Moon
Yesterday I watched an old "Tales of Wells Fargo" black and white tv show. In it, a small young girl is discovered wandering around in the middle of nowhere by either a gypsy or a Mexican (he can't speak English) and he cares for her and takes her to the nearest town. The locals all think he'd kidnapped her and they put him in jail. A mob wants to lynch him. Anyway, at the end, the girl's mother brings the girl to the jail and she runs up and hugs the gypsy. The "gypsy" was a dead ringer for what Elon Musk likely looked like thirty years ago.

Did he look good in jail and under threat of lynching?

Nope. He looked as goofy in the Tales of Wells Fargo as he does now. That's why I went when watching the show. I said "that dude looks like a young Elon Musk." Hell, it might have been him...the show was from the late fifties or early sixties...black and white. Don't know how old Musk is but figure he's twenty years younger than me at least.

Poor phrasing on my part.
Were you pleased to see Mush in jail and under threat of lynching?
It's been a year since he was wreaking havoc on American government and the world. Researchers from Boston University estimate that 750,000 have died as a result of the shuttering of USAID.

Nah, I was rooting for Musk since the viewers had seen him rescue the girl and take her to the town. The locals reminded me of cultists....immediately jumping to erroneous conclusions with an intent to "solve" the problem by drastic action. Contemporary analogies are trump's immigrant hysteria and Venezuelan drug boats.....
During a speech commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence last week, New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani took aim at the richest person in the world to make a salient point about growing inequality.
“We see the wealthiest country in the history of the world, one where children go to sleep hungry, while the world’s first trillionaire hungers for more,” he said.
Elon Musk, who temporarily became a trillionaire following his company SpaceX’s IPO last month, didn’t take kindly to the slight.
“Mamdani has built nothing,” he tweeted angrily in response. “He is a taker, never a maker.”
But his knee-jerk retort didn’t exactly land. The most-liked reply pointed out that Musk’s empire had been built on tens of billions of dollars of government handouts....
Says possibly the biggest single recipient of US taxpayer dollars of all time...
... One particularly scorching takedown came from grassroots political organizer Jay Ponti, who pointed out that many of Musk’s business successes were built on the shoulders of others.
“[Martin] Eberhard and [Marc] Tarpenning founded Tesla,” he wrote, referring to the EV maker’s original CEO and CFO before Musk joined in 2004. “You didn’t invent eBay or Twitter.”
“Your wealth is from acquisitions, hostile takeovers, and stealing credit,” Ponti added. “Everything you have was built by workers and you fight to keep from unionizing while you receive [government] welfare.”
“You are a parasite,” the political organizer concluded.
The scathing remarks highlight Musk’s more-than-rocky rise to fame and how his companies, Tesla and SpaceX in particular, have massively benefited from government contracts over the years. According to an eye-opening Washington Post investigation last year, Musk’s businesses have sucked up at least $38 billion in government contracts, loans, subsidies, and tax credits.
If Musk himself hadn’t been a “taker,” his companies could’ve easily flatlined without regular taxpayer-funded cash infusions.
... After SpaceX’s blockbuster IPO last month made Musk the world’s first trillionaire, Mamdani had some choice words.
“Reason #1,000,000,000,000 why we should tax the rich,” he tweeted at the time....
