Re: We have a cat thread!
I once taught a cat to play chess. After it beat me three times I put it in cat jail. Not much later they hauled the beast out in a cat pan. Checkmate

People are, too, post-rigor and subjectively, like a sack of potatoes. But those last few pics are evocative of what I had in mind once the cheating chess cat was safely constrained on cat death row....those pics seem to show how the beast was in full rigor on the cat pan. Most people don't know this, but for some reason, cats are heavier dead than alive.

I used to wonder if the total weight of everybody on the planet fluctuates very much or not.....whether the total weight of people who died in the past is eventually equal to the total weight of the people currently living and the eventual weight of kids growing up and babies that are born.

Also, does the distribution of the total weight of the people currently living affect the planet's rotation or even its revolution? Is there a population wobble?neoplacebo wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2026 9:30 am![]()

The whole thing tends to make the mind wobble. But if everybody in the world jumped into the air at the same time, the planet would lose massive weight for a second. But enough of this philosophical stew.....Vrede too wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2026 10:46 amAlso, does the distribution of the total weight of the people currently living affect the planet's rotation or even its revolution? I will now go back to cats....I once had a book of cartoons titled "101 Uses For A Dead Cat" and I remember two of my favorites. One was a woman with a dead but taxidermy fixed cat on each hand for use as oven mitts and the other was a double line of cat heads planted on either side of a driveway so that the car headlights reflect back from their lifeless eyes at night. And every time I see a squirrel walking along a power line it makes me wonder whether a cat would do that if it were able to get up there. Same thing with a clothesline. it's things like this that man has pondered for eons. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I remember that book - I didn't buy it but enjoyed browsing it at a bookstore back when there were bookstores that encouraged browsing. Majorly funny!
