2026 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I've been aghast from time to time that there are so many people in the US that even tolerate, much less support, a person with Trump's undisputed record. But the primaries don't bother me. All the headlines about Trump's control, MAGA voting in clowns based on Trump loyalty, etc. sounds like - if you're not paying attention - that Trump is more popular than ice cream on a summer day and more powerful than Genghis Khan. But I then remind myself that these are results from Repug primaries, and those voting are predominately hard core MAGAs. So the published results are about the same as the result of a group of dog owners voting on whether the best house pet is a dog or cat. It will be a different story in the general and we'll find out if nominating the craziest of the bunch will be supported by the American, non-MAGA voters.

Yeah, isn't that ironic? There was negligible significant rigging and cheating in elections until Trump claimed there was, even though none was ever proven. Since then, actual efforts to cheat and rig have increased, as if that's the normal thing.

I was being sarcastic. But yeah, it really has developed into the true irony of our times.

GQP cheating and rigging will be rampant, as will GQP whining about nonexistent Dem cheating and rigging.

Good question. My observation of Maine is their main stream democrats are left center, not irrational.

Distrust of the system is good for authoritarians.

New poll shows Steyer (D) edging Hilton (R) in CA governor's race as battle for 2nd tightens

The Swalwell implosion helped. In first is Biden secretary of health and human services Xavier Becerra. So, Nov looks like:
Becerra > Hilton, or
Becerra vs Steyer

Nice. At a glance Becerra looks way way more qualified than Steyer.

Primary tomorrow. Who got/will get your vote? Good luck.

I voted for Beccerra, based mainly in two things: he was leading and likely not to be affected in case there's some Repug uptick. Definitely don't want to let two Repugs sneak in. Since Tru*p stepped on his own dick as well as that of the other repug, that's now not really a factor. Secondly, I think Steyer's heart is in the right place, but he has no real political experience and is running on a couple of issues he has no chance of accomplishing what he says, which is in itself another indication of inexperience.

Do you mean that by endorsing at all Moron Don guaranteed that there wouldn't be two RepuQ winners?

Yeppers. Their chances were slim, but realistically possible but after Tru*p's endorsement, everybody who cared anything about what Tru*p said jumped on the anointed one's bandwagon. Then when Stalwell left for some reason Beccerra picked up those votes and the Repugs would appear to be doomed. I really hope the remaining repug finishes second. Months of two Dems trashing each other couldn't be helpful to anybody.

Gotta hand it to Swalwell for being transparent about his actions - raping somebody at a press conference is pretty brazen.
A woman named Lonna Drewes accused Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) of drugging and raping her during a press conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday, adding to the weighty allegations of sexual misconduct against the California Democrat.
One of several credible accusations. :puke-left:

Idk, Dems have a history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Right, Rep Swalwell? I'll play it safe and root for Steyer. People won't remember any "trashing" after Nov, and they might make each other better pols.

Michigan:

Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers blasted for using Photoshop to make him look buff
The MAGA movement under President Trump has been know to share several AI-generated images in the past, including a controversial post Trump made a few months ago depicting himself as Jesus Christ

Image

 :puke-left:
... The photo of Mike Rogers, a GOP Senate candidate endorsed by President Donald Trump, was shared by Abby Ronson, a member of the Republican PR firm Convergence Media....
MAGAt, figures.
The image quickly made the rounds on social media, with (a) Rogers' Democratic candidate (challenger), Mallory McMorrow, sharing a side-by-side comparison with the original.

"This is gender affirming care," McMorrow wrote alongside the image....
:laughing-rolling: Note: McMorrow is one of several Dems vying to win the 8/4 primary. RCP polling
Ut-oh, Michigan is a must for the Dems.
